Yes. Besides, it’d still be cheaper to lvl another profession to 500 than to pay 3~15x as much for mats to make the backpiece.

this thread was already started about the situation.. and yes I agree its a huge problem not just for gift of blades but for all ascended armor.. the cost of putting a full suit of light armor together vs any is huge and needs to be fixed.
A good start would be cutting the silk need from 100 bolts to only needing 50. also increasing the drop rate on silk and linen.

But why is it more pricey? Aren’t they equivalent materials?

Damask is used across all 3 armor crafts, which raises demand (thus price), whereas Elonian Leather and Deldrimor Steel are primarily for Leatherworking and Armorsmithing respectively (less demand = less price). This along with the fact that Tailoring requires the most damask of any other profession makes it the most expensive armor craft.

Carighan: Leather is basically worthless. I think Elonian Leather is generally cheaper than the components used to make it.
Cloth, on the other hand, is used for all Insignias.
The whole Damask/Elonian Leather/Deldrimor Steel ascended armor design was flawed to begin with.
The primary purpose, as indicated by John Smith, seems to be to provide a material sink.
They, clearly, put no forethought into how much more expensive Damask would end up… as it’s required for EVERY Ascended armor piece.

It doesn’t help matters at all, since there is no clear and easy way to farm the mats for it, like metal or wood has. All we can do is cross our fingers and hope the drops we do get are light armor, and not heavy or medium, to salvage.
Leather has the “luck” of being the red headed stepchild of GW crafting. No one cares about it, so its beyond plentiful and cheap as hell.
