I’m guessing the original idea was to have Canach be the one to figure out how to defeat the Miasma poison due to his knowledge of toxins. Given the part early on where he says his parole can be purchased, I’m guessing the goal originally was that he says he knows how to neutralise it and his freedom is purchased in exchange for that knowledge and subsequent ability to deal with the poisons.

Then Ho-Ho Tron came along at first as a joke (as has been stated) but got such a great reception, its role was broadened to the point where he is the one to discover the secret of the Miasma, leaving Canach to sit in a birdcage style jail at the Vigil Keep.

If so, what happens to Canach now? Is he to be forgotten/written out? Will the robot take over and become a romantic interest for Taimi’s golem? Am I even close in my thought on that?

I think Canach is a wasted opportunity and could have gone down some interesting roads. It’s a shame he was dumped and forgotten

Um, “Ho-Ho-Tron” has been part of the story since Canach’s return to Southsun. Perhaps you didn’t notice because he’s currently on his third name change.

During the Southsun story the Consortium had a snippy little Golem whose purpose was to evaluate the refugees and place them in relevant jobs. His name was Job-o-Tron. With the loss of the contracts and the subsequent evacuation of the refugees there was no purpose to maintaining such a Golem so it was cast out.

Somehow it found its way to Divinity’s Reach during the Queen’s Jubilee under the new moniker Hob-o-Tron. It was dubiously captured by Scarlet’s minions along with the poor Minstrel it was constantly pestering. Due to whatever transpired there it was secured by the Seraph and apparently put through court, for some reason. This is the only part of the story I don’t follow, since Golem’s are tools not people they don’t have rights to try in court. In any case it was found guilty and for penance it was labeled Ho-Ho-Tron and forced to collect charity during Wintersday.

Considering how much they put into the story of this Golem and how nothing at all they’ve put into Canach’s story in all this time, I don’t think that’s what they intended at all. I happen to think your version would have been superior, but it doesn’t matter since Heal-o-Tron didn’t save the day. The toxin was Dies Ex Machina’d out of the story by wind rather than defeated in any meaningful way.
