This might seem like an odd question, but Escape from Lion’s Arch is but one of several situations where the player must clear a certain number of enemy waves within a limited time (such as when doing the miasma events). So when is a wave considered cleared?

As I see it, the game keeps spawning enemies, with veterans, champions and elites among them. And obviously some of these take a lot longer to kill than others. So does the event simply count the number of enemies killed? Or do champions count higher? Or is killing champions basically a waste of time? Because you could also just focus on killing the weakest enemies. How does it work exactly? And is the difficulty of the enemies taken into account for the progress of the waves?

Each group of enemies is part of a wave, so whilst there might be multiple waves on screen at one time (hence why it seems as though they just keep spawning), each enemy belongs specifically to a certain wave. So you could theoretically end up with two enemies left and 2 waves left, and then killing each of them would put the remaining wave count down to 1 and then to 0.
- To my understand that is how it works in regular events. With EfLA I’m not so certain, since you can reduce the counter to 0 waves even with enemies still on screen. But I think that the scaling might be mucking up how it works there?

As far as I know, each mob killed depletes the bar, and different kinds of mobs deplete it in a certain amount. I’ve seen the bar go down by a lot when a Champion dies, so the type of mob is important.

^— That would possibly account for how bizzarely it works in EfLA

I’ve always been curious as to why one event will use a counter while a different, but similar, event will use a bar. Possibly the difference is what the previous two posters said, one counts specific enemies and one counts enemy strength?

All I know is, the system isn’t very transparent. To make matters even more unclear, the progress bar doesn’t gradually decrease. It does rather big jumps, and sometimes when the wave still has 10% strength left, it instantly drops to zero upon killing an enemy. This gives you a very vague idea of just how much of the enemy forces is left. Right now I just don’t know if I’m helping my team by wailing on a champion for several minutes, when I could be taking out the trash mobs around it.

And if there are multiple waves mixing into one giant mosh pit, how do I know what enemy belongs to what wave?

Champions definitely count higher. Elites too. I’ve watched it a couple times where it seemed like we didn’t have enough time and then an Elite was killed and a the meter dropped from like 10% left to nothing.
