It used to be that we saw what was being released 1 week prior to its release, now we only get small teaser trailers and silence from the devs

If you don’t want market manipulation, then fine leave item changes out of previews but doing an entire veil is unnecessary

Kind of feels like the marketing team is slowly silencing out the dev team in overall game discussion, it may not seem like much now but in its essence if they keep it up it’ll carry on to worse ideas that they can’t control.

Actually i have a feeling they did it because of the “Hype” factor. Most people, including me, knew about 90% of what was going to happen (literally) a week in advance. This way they preserve the hype by just showing u a trailer + a few lines of text.

Just like for movies.

Its probably because the current updates are content-only and they don’t want to spoil the story. My guess is the 1 week previews will come back for the feature updates

This!

The amount of questions raised and the lack of answers shows that they have something planned that is currently above our expectation level (or atleast they think). So it can go either way.

a: The OP is totally right, cause the whole patch is nice, but not worth the hype. something being overhyped is disasterious for a game
b: They do deliver and everyone (ok ok the majority) is going to be very pleased by the awesomeness.

Seriously.
That is like complaining that a movie trailer didn’t show you the entire plot before you saw the movie. Like actually.

I know that people are so used to everything being laid out right in front of them – and actually having entire plots in movie trailers – but that is NOT the way things should be,.

What is the point of them telling you everything that is going to happen before it happens. Wouldn’t you rather know a little bit and then get to have a surprise?

Shall I come to your house on your Birthday and on Christmas and sit there and tell you exactly what each of your presents is just before you open it?

I wouldn’t say it was much more veiled than before, they just get Massively to write it for them now..

Nah they should do this with every release. Nothing more that a sneak preview, this is probably the only LS so far I am looking forward too.

That is like complaining that a movie trailer didn’t show you the entire plot before you saw the movie. Like actually.

Except, you know, the story of GW2 isn’t the main attraction. The gameplay is. I want to know what I’m playing. How has swapping to trailers boosted people’s hype? All it’s done for me is make me way less excited for the releases. It used to be I’d see what I could play and then the excitement would practically kill me while I was waiting. Now, I watch the trailer on Monday and forget about the update for a week and then log on Wednesday or so to see what I can play.

I haven’t looked forward to any of the updates since they swapped to trailers except for this one, because it seems to have the most potential to change the world out of any LS update. I’ll still log on later today to check what’s happened.

That is highly debatable. GW2, like GW1, is a STORY based game. Arenanet has always had a focus on story – it’s just a lot of the MMO-hoppers that come in and think it’s all about gameplay. The updates are about story – a lot of us don’t want the story ruined before we get a chance to play it. It should be the same with gameplay anyway, why do you need to know what to do before you can do it. Learning when something hits live is a lot more enjoyable than starting and already knowing exactly how to do something. Melandru forbid you actually have to work hard at something.

@FlamingFoxx
Then don’t read the patch notes. Problem solved. On top of that the patch notes only give a general sense of the story, they don’t go into detail. From the page on Tower of Nightmares:
Some new trouble is growing in Kessex Hills. Carefully hidden by magic, the krait have been working tirelessly on a terror unlike anything seen before in Tyria. Marjory Delaqua and Kasmeer Meade are investigating the illusory curtain that’s cloaking part of Viathan Lake, and they need your help! What secret lies behind the veil?
That’s about what a movie trailer would tell you, wouldn’t you agree? If you still feel that is too much, why not just keep the rewards and gameplay changes? Not a single word of the story will be spoiled, and we’ll still get to see the gameplay.

How have any of the pages actually told you how to beat the content? You can check the release page, but all it does is link to a guide on how to do it. If that is such a big deal, just remove the guide then. Check the page for Super Adventure Box. Nowhere on there does it say how to make the jumps. It gives you the same kind of information that is on the back of a games box.

And on another note, please don’t think I’m one of your “MMO-hoppers”. This is the only MMO I play, and have played around an hour a day since I first logged on. I have never cared for the story, and stopped playing my personal story rather quickly (having never beaten it.) I log on for the dungeons, open world combat, and world bosses. If I want to read update pages like this:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/april-30-2013/
and see what bosses I’ll be fighting, dungeons I’ll be exploring, and rewards I’ll be getting, what’s wrong with that? It “spoils” the same amount of story a movie’s trailer would. If you don’t want that, don’t read them. No one is going to make you.
