Lion’s Arch is about to be attacked by a large army. The Tengus are pretty xenophibic and have a gate connected to Lion’s Arch. I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t think they’ll sit there doing nothing with their neighbor being trashed and an army at their gate.

Based on the articles in this thread my hopes about them have done a 180…
The Tengu are still holding strong to their belief of non-interference even during this massive attack near their home city. They are, however, very keen to protect their wall and land, so players venturing to the southwestern area of the city should proceed with caution!
They may well be hostile.

I firmly believe ArenaNet has stretched their resources so thin trying to maintain the bi-monthly release schedule for the Living Story that they don’t have the resources to work on things like new races. I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.

I’m just wondering what this firm belief is based on. Are you inferring based on the quality of the LS updates to date? They’ve clearly stated that there are multiple teams dedicated to LS updates, so I’m not sure I’d judge their company-wide resources based on your opinion of the success or non-success of LS updates. If your belief is based on something other than a decision that you made to believe it and then become confident in that belief, would you mind sharing your evidence with the rest of us?
For the record, I don’t have any knowledge one way or another whether there are any plans to expand playable races.

Unfortunately I have to agree with you. While I’m not 100% sure, I definity feel like Anet doesn’t have the time to sit down and flesh out the Tengu as fully playable with armor and animations and everything, while also developing a personal story line that fits within the rest of the game. They could do all that, but not when they are busy with the bi-weekly Living World updates.
If Anet is reading this, please know that I would be totally fine with you guys taking a few months off to develop Tengu as a playable race with their own story. If budget is the concern, I would even be willing to pay for the Tengu in the gem store if it was well done.

Tengus have the same mesh as the charrs, we’d probably just get the same boring near-identical trenchcoats. They wouldn’t have to work on new armor except for racials.

They’ve already said they don’t have the resources to ensure the quality of the Living Story is on par with that of the game at launch (voiced player-characters, etc). They’ve said they have multiple teams working on content, but the number of “oops” hotfixes we get after each LS update strongly indicates their QA team is struggling to keep up.
Then there’s the fact that they missed a great number of the 2013 goals (crafting precursors, new skills, Legendary trinkets, etc). Class balance patches are few and far between. They’ve all but said “we don’t care at all about addressing clipping issues on charr armor”. And there are still multiple bugs that have been around since the game launched 18 months ago. If that’s not enough reason for you, I can go on.

I don’t think they are doing the 2 week cycle for Season 2. Also, after the story ends next week, I believe the next patch doesn’t come until March 18th. Then who knows after that.

I don’t think you realize that the LS teams are almost 100% NOT the same teams that would be working on “expansion style” content like new races/professions/skills/quality-of-life-issues/new DE’s or whatever form the next “expansion” is going to take on.
The LS teams are only a small set of teams that are churning out content to keep players invested while they develop other content for release down the road. Also, they were already developing Tengu as a playable race prior to the original release. I’m sure there have been many many iterations of them since then, but IF they are going to make Tengu playable, they are almost guaranteed to be in a fairly solid state of development.
Even content that releases at the same time as LS content isn’t necessarily created by the LS teams as far as I know. For instance, I doubt the LS team for the Edge of the Mist update was solely responsible for the Edge of Mist map. If anything, that LS team probably worked on the story/dialogue instances, the fetch quest idea to get Taimi her parts back, and probably little else. I have a feeling they may be sharing a bit of the burden with the Scarlet’s finale LS team.

Completely false. Anet’s LS team is very small compared to the rest of the company. Many other teams are focused on balancing, marketing, and even larger more pronounced projects for the game. They are the ones who have the potential to add new professions, races, areas etc. and it’s been a year and a half since they’ve released anything. So believe it or not the company isn’t spreading it’s resources thin at all, it’s your pop that makes it look kitten. LS is what sets up the lore and explanation for the larger updates to come up.

I have a feeling that the Tengu will be slaughtering anyone that comes near their precious gate, refugees or not.
Odds are if that is indeed what happens, as they hinted, you will all be able to thank the Scarlet Saga for closing the door to a playable Tengu race for a very long time.
I don’t think even McCoy’s amazing retcon powers would be able to clear the extreme animosity between races this will cause.
The irony is delicious to me. Everyone cheering the destruction of LA as clearing the way for Tengu will possibly find it has done just the opposite.

You’re proving my point. If these other teams aren’t stretched thin, as you claim, then where is the stuff they’re supposedly working on?

All these mythical employees… yet in 18 months they have yet to actually release anything…
I’m pretty sure if they had all these mythical “big” projects and “huge” balance teams they would have done SOMETHING by now…
the LS teams are it. If 18 months isn’t enough to prove this to you then I don’t know what to tell you. If there are some other teams that it takes them more than 18 months to add a single feature then they really aren’t worth having anyway imo.

This. Tons of clipping issues. Armor that’s just human/norn armor but with obviously stretched textures. It’ll be a disaster, just like with the charr.

They’ve added a ton of stuff. And how long do you think it takes to create a video game expansion? This is a nonsense post. Have fun with your tinfoil hat and your theories about how this company wants to NOT make money.

All I saw were magic arrows flying into the ground, dealing infinite damage (where can a bow user get some of that?). For all we know, the Tengu are sitting behind their wall laughing at our misfortunes while their infinitely powerful arrows do all the work for them!

As infuriating as it is, that seems to be the case. There’s not even a single piece of dialogue to explain it as far as I can tell. Just a closed gate and a firing squad. All we can assume is xenophobia. And if they’ll stick to it even in this extreme case, it makes it pretty hard to imagine them being trusted by anyone.
EDIT: The ONLY story I think I would believe is if Scarlet’s drill woke something up and it’s already rampaging around on the other side of the wall. If that were the case, I can perhaps see why they wouldn’t want anything else to deal with from outside.
