Can anybody clarify how this works?

If I infuse my ascended (non colored) spinal back piece, will I be able to color the infused version?

Vice versa,
If I do NOT infuse, but color my spinal back pieces, will I then be able to infuse them later?

From what I’ve gathered (having checked exactly dulfy and nowhere else), you need to upgrade to colored before you can infuse.

Either way, it’s done through the mystic forge, so as long as you have the components you should be able to do it until Zomorros decides to escape/leave/die/whatever.
