I thought that it had been said that the reason why we don’t see Destiny’s Edge, and instead get Braham, Rox, Majory, and Kas, is because DE is busy with Zaithan. But, an npc says to you “Seems like it was just the other day you led us to victory over Zaithan.” So which is it?

It does take place after the PS. Dragon Bash was pretty clear about it.

The LS takes place a year later after Zhaitan’s defeat.

Yes, but in the forums, Regina Buenaobra said that Destiny’s edge is still busy with Zaithan.

Rox, Braham, Marjory, Kasmeer, and Taimi are referred to internally as “B-Iconics” (or Biconics) as opposed to our “A-Iconics” or main iconic characters, Caithe, Rytlock, Eir, Zojja, and Logan. They are not a “replacement” for Destiny’s Edge; these characters fulfill a different role in the story. Because members of Destiny’s Edge are so entwined with your Personal Story as well as the over-arching story with Zhaitan, and because the Living World plot lines are taking place at the same time all those other story threads, we couldn’t have the members of Destiny’s Edge splitting themselves between these other areas and what was going on with Living World. This is partly why we introduced these new characters.

Yep, Zhaitan was defeated in 1325 AE
Scarlet’s minions started turning up in 1326 AE.
The defeat of Scarlet (and current day) is 1327 AE.
So basically two years after the defeat of Zhaitan.
EDIT: It was later clarified that it does not take place at the same time (in that very thread)
What Regina means is that for players who are currently going through their Personal Story, the LW timeline will seem to be happening at the same time. Technically, they happen at different times in Tyrian history. Personal Story predates the current Living World season by approximately one year.
So when you’re playing your Personal Story and are in an instance with Rytlock, etc. the assumption is that this is happening “in the past” whereas LW events are happening now.
Our hope is to provide better distinction of these timelines within the game, but that would come with the release of a planned feature that we’re not ready to discuss in depth just yet.

Ah, I didn’t read that post. Still, it leaves unanswered as to why Destiny’s Edge didn’t show up. Answers are always in the future, aren’t they Anet?

Well, they’re not there for the Finale, but most of them did show up at one point or another.
Logan during Dragon Bash, and again just after the Marionette fight.
Rytlock a few times with Rox about her joining his warband.
Eir in Brahm’s early missions during Flame and Frost.
Caithe in the Aetherblade path in TA.
The only one of Destiny’s Edge who didn’t bother showing up was Zojja. Which really shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Just because Zhaitan was defeated doesnt nessasarily mean that he was killed. We won and severely weakened him to the point that he is no longer a major threat. Obviously he still has some influence since his minions still roam oar, which shows that he isn’t actually dead even in current time. The members of DA could possibly be busy just cleaning up so to speak, making sure that Zhaitan stays dormant. I mean really do any of you think that these dragons can actually be killed given the entire history and lore of the dragons in this game? They always come back eventually no matter what.

There is nothing that proves (or even suggests) that a Dragons minions dies when an Elder Dragon does though.
They lose a bit of coordination and such surely, but they still exists.
