Which of the three do you think were the most brutal?

The LA attack is what is going on right now.

The Searing from GW1 which damaged much of Ascalon:

The Cataclysm which damaged Orr:

The Cataclysm destroyed an entire culture, and then it indirectly did bonus world-changing damage when Orr was brought back up.

Yeah the Cataclysm SUNK Orr.
An entire nation destroyed and sunken… That’s definitely far worse.

The Searing comes second, giant balls of fire/crystal (the game kind of contradicts itself as to which) raining death on the city and destroying buildings and killing people.

Of course you could argue that this is akin to the Searing – but look at the damage caused by the Searing. It wasn’t just Ascalon city which was destroyed but the entire Ascalon region. Everything was turned into a desolate wasteland. This is JUST effecting Lions Arch.

LA = A major city in Tyria, however, it is just ONE city and can be easily rebuilt with time.

The Searing = Brought an entire Kingdom to it’s knees in a matter of minutes, turned the waters of the land into tar, turned the once green and lush kingdom into a glorified crater where life barely clung.

The Cataclysm = destroyed an entire culture, removed an island from the map.

This assault, while I like it, is no where near Searing or Cataclysm scale UNLESS it leads to what people are thinking Scarlet’s goal is.

Well…the Cataclysm was more devastating on a purely physical scale. But let’s remember that the reason the Cataclysm happened was because the Searing cleared the way for the Charr to march on Orr.

As well, the magic that the Charr used in the Searing was “older than even the Titans, powered by beings who had long ago fallen into sleep.” Given the purple crystals that marked the event, it’s clear that the Charr were tapping into Kralkatorik’s power.

Most brutal? The Cataclysm. Most important lore wise? The Searing by far. The Searing is the defining moment of Guild Wars Prophecies, and without a doubt the defining moment for the humans and Charr in Tyria.

Scarlet’s attack on Lion’s? Pshaw. Searing and Cataclysm aside, I’ve seen much worse

Yeah no way this single-city invasion matches the world changing events of the Searing and Cataclysm.

I will say however that this invasion of LA might beat out the one at the end of the War in Kryta (GW1). Both were crazy intense but this time the invaders seem to be winning quite soundly.

Is this thread a joke?

Lion’s Arch got destroyed, sure, but “most” people escaped (quotations used because it’s 99.99% of named NPCs escaped).

The Searing not only wiped out a huge number of a full nation (not just one city, even a large city), but it effectively destroyed the ecosystem of the nation for decades if not centuries.

The Cataclysm, however, was genocide. All life in the area – all life unquestionably – was wiped out. The only Orrians that survived were not in Orr. And the ecosystem was also destroyed – irrevocably so. Any ecosystem to move in once Zhaitan’s corruption is cleansed… will not be the same ecosystem in the least – they’ll all be invasive species that had no native species to wipe out (the job having been done).

So yeah, which was most brutal?

The Cataclysm, hands down. It’s not even a contest, even if you add in the Jade Wind (reversible effect) and Nightfall (again, reversible effect) or even dragon corruption (reversible once more).

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

cough final fantasy 14.., they all lost and the world got destroyed.
So, thats a pretty clear winner IMO.
Its such a mighty ending of a MMO, I still really think they are gonna make it in the end when they trap the dragon with the prayer spell, and poff.., all is lost..,, the look on the knights face.., he cant believe it and.., dead!

Yeah, I think Jade Wind was the worst of them all, even more than the Nightfall.
IMO: Jade Wind > Nightfall > Cataclysm > Searing > LA invasion

Charter Vanguard [CV] – HoD
Bardy Belzebuson – Ranger Sir Belzebu – Herald
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

The searing for me. Orr might be more of a catastrophe, but I wasnt in Orr before that hit.
I do was in old Ascalon before the searing and the effect when leaving pre was working like Anet intended it.
