really?
I was totally anticipating them over by Tactician Michael under the big tent or something like that.
I worry that the great sense of server community that was felt ‘hanging out in la’ while you craft n trade, has been lost.

To be honest, I prefer this. One of the big things the community asked for was to give a reason to send people to the other cities. OK, this is only a small step, but it will help re-populate them somewhat.

Well, to be fair, I think what the community was imagining was for Arena.net to ADD reasons to make people go to the other cities, not TAKE AWAY reasons to go to Lion’s Arch.
That said, it’s not nearly as big of an issue as the crying would suggest.

Or, as the conspiracy theorists might have you believe, it’s to get you to buy a pass to the Airship.
Because the airship has everything.

I am NOT going to spend 1000 gems to visit the laurel vendor. That is totally preposterous! I am feeling more and more like a cash cow to Anet.

It’s all about convenience. The gem store is Anet primary income source. We’re getting free gaming content from a game whose competitors requires monthly fees. Would you rather pay 15$ each month to play the game or play the game for free with optional spendings on things that only makes it more convenient to you but does not whatsoever take away any content from you?
We’re not cash cows. We’re spoiled.

I don’t believe there’s a laurel merchant in any home starter area

Oh please, these are basic services that were previously available in LA they are now behind a pay wall, protesting is not a sign of being spoiled.

They can’t claim it being the new central hub without crafting stations…

Oh ye of little faith…
There’s one in each capital city and in each WvW borderlands citadel.
I’m not saying the Vigil Keep shouldn’t have one (I think it should), but it’s not the only game around.

WvW Laurel Merchants do not sell all the same items as the one from LA, just checked. Only ascended gear is the same.
Regardless, the whole point of LA was to have a central hub for players.
So taking it away and giving me the option of “convenience” by only getting gems is disheartening as something that the game provided, is now no longer being provided, which was convenience.

A fair point on the WvW vendor, and agreement on the principle of removing services from the transportation hub as explained in an alternate universe.
