As much as I loathe the overflow system, I’m willing to make do while I wait for room. However, getting a queue pop and clicking “travel” only to end up in a worse overflow is driving me insane.

Never never never travel—Stay where you are. Overflow works fine on populated servers and the overflow is very successful.
You are stressing out too much with about overflow. I won more times in overflow than on non overflow with marionette and it seems to be the same with this new event. Guest to a server like blackgate and your chance of success increases exponentially, regardess of overflow or not.
