If I fully farm I get 130-150 bags per hour. If I try to save citizens I get 50 bags tops.. what gives? There’s no incentive to save people beyond those milestone bags?
EDIT: My point here is: nobody’s helping the citizens. Best I saw on SFR was 500!! And I saved like 50 myself!

The point is bags contain crap loot but you get better loot from saving a certain amount of citizens.
300, 600, 1000, and 1500 citizens gives rewards. The best loot is at 1000 and 1500 which offer a chance to get past rewards from any update.
Citizens > bag farming.
Speaking of past rewards:
Has anyone gotten anything from previous updates?
I am curious about the range of rewards, & how far back in the past it goes to.

Someone showed a screenshot on Reddit of them getting a mini cobalt jungle wurm head mini from the 5th tier bag.
Are the tier bags actually different? cause they all stack.
Assuming the milestone bags are notably better than pure farming, you’d still have to convince a large portion of the map to help and those that didn’t help and continued to farm would benefit from the rescues of everyone else as well as their added supply bags.
I wonder if you get a different back at the end event thing (after Magnus tell you to leave). Highest I’ve been in is 600s I really want to find a server/overflow that can get those top tiers.

Citizens > bag farming.
It isn’t event bag farming that’s the main problem. It’s champ bag farming.
This event has devolved into a glorified champ train.
It seems they have adjusted the reward tiers to award at 100, 300, 600, 900, and 1200 citizens rescued.

It seems to have been a bug, and they fixed it in the bug fix/update they just did.

And people don’t recognize that they make it harder for themselfes if they go into the zerg and try to farm champ bags. The way the events scale, it’s more like " In Lion’s Arch mobs farm you". All they get are lvl 84 Elite mobs massacrating players, with one shot aoes, one shot hammer attacks, hundreds of fire fields, tornados, and protection fields, and a chance for champ spawns. Also the mobs take way longer to kill in a zerg than in 5 or 10 man groups. It isn’t worth it to scale the events so high, but people don’t understand this, because they are used to do this in the Scarlet Invasions or the Tower of Nightmares, and there is also the champ train in Queensdale.
This is why there should have been an achievement, or some other immediate but minor incentive, for saving citizens.
I don’t begrudge folk wanting to get their achievements done – I certainly worked on that when the patch dropped – but because they’re all event-based they give the false impression that the events are the only thing to do, and draw many players away from rescuing citizens.
This is compounded by the reward bags from zerging events, compared to nothing for saving citizens. The bags are full of kitten of course, but it seems a lot of players can only be attracted by immediate rewards (alliance loot bags) and not the actual good stuff everyone gets with 1200 citizens saved. When you spend a cycle just running citizens, it starts to feel like you’re wasting your time because there’s so little help from other players.
Escape from LA definitely builds on the Marionette in terms of massive group events requiring a variety of activities to be undertaken, which is what drew so many of us to GW2 in the first place. But a little bit of social engineering to nudge more players towards taking on different roles seems desirable at this stage.

a yellow, a few ascended mats and more bits to build a back piece are hardly worth the effort. imo citizens are a waste of time comparatively.

That’s what I was thinking as well. They should have added something like the infinite achievements that they have during the holidays. If they had an achievement like “Rescue 30 civilians and you get a loot bag”, and it only counted civilians YOU either revived or encouraged that got out safely, it might have cut down on the zerg a bit.
Citizens is not worth more. We’ve been hitting 1500 citizens each hour for a few days now, and I haven’t seen anybody get anything worth more than 1g from that last bag.
You have an EXTREMELY small chance at getting anything good from the final bag. Its so tiny that it isn’t worth it at all.

Yep, this is the issue.
It just is more convenient to farm enemies than to save citizens, since the final reward can be good only if you get very lucky with it. And very few people will be lucky.
I got two Mini Holographic Risen Knights.
