I managed to get through the Graveyard sadness, and felt the warm-fuzzies seeing my name on the wall of hereos… then I get to wall of missing, and I see “I can’t find mommy or daddy” and I start crying. ;_;

Yep. Looked at that, went “Ok I’m done here” and bawled.
I’m going to look at this and cry and I’m not going to be able to explain it to anyone.
Wow. I had a meh moment and carried on with the cutscenes and promptly logged out. Unfortunately I find GW2 to have little to no emotional effect on me. This could be because of shoddy writing

Neat.
I think LoTR and Game of Thrones is boring, shoddy writing, but I recognize that other people get into those books and don’t usually go around flaunting that I find them very dull and uninteresting.
But then again, as much as I love to read, there’s never been a book I’ve connected to the way people seem to. I read it once, usually enjoy it, might pick it up a few years later to reread, but nothing has ever been the “it influenced my life” level that people talk about.

Good for you, because it would misplaced here anyways, as this is GW2 forum.
I for one couldn’t care less about the “story” in GW2 anyway…thats maybe because im not 14 anymore, who knows…

Although those two genres are compared to the writing in this game all the time.
Growing through the era when games were allowed to be light-hearted and silly has spoiled me in an era where everything has to be as serious and realistic as possible.

What’s your age have to do with any of this? if you don’t like the story that’s fine, but why do you have to derail my thread with it? Make a new one and complain about the story there. >.<

Never said I didn’t like the story. I actually do. I had the same feels you did.

I have yet to play a game where the writing was actually real quality. All MMO stories are basically mediocre or worse. I mean, authors like Dan Brown, John Grisham, J.K. Rowling, etc., etc. don’t write for MMOs.
There a lot of sad moments in this LS it seems a few of the kid npc die.
I honestly couldn’t care less about the human children, charr cubs and norn kids. But I just adore asura progeny, and learning that the raisin face kid is missing makes me kinda sad.
Norn children are actually classified as adult humans in the coding, albeit slightly shorter than the shortest possible human height.
Anybody else but me glad Doc Halvern is dead? I hate Krait Oil!
Would have been hilarious if there was “I can’t find Peter the Lost”.

The worst part was that it only said “Leave.” at the end … ;_;

You are not alone, the emotional angles seem forced and artificial making it harder to sympathize with. It all comes down to how it was written and if it is not having the appropriate emotional impact for many people then something is simply wrong with the writing.
I wish they’d spend more time on humor and less time on melodrama. They pull off humor so much more reliably.
You know it’s bad when even a charr is crying non-stop. I felt so sorry for this one.
I wish there was a hug emote.
Would have been hilarious if there was “I can’t find Peter the Lost”.
A great opportunity sorely missed.
