I would like to ask a question. What will be the future of this game? Please tell me! It’s important for me because if the answer is ZERGs then thank you but I don’t want to invest more time in this game. Why? Let me tell you why:

-Zerg contents are NOT fun at all. Nobody likes playing with a bunch of random players (well, at least not with this many)
-Your success depends on them. So your success depends on people who absolutely out of your control.
-Even if you would be able to influence them, it still don’t worth your time because you won’t see them again and next time you have to explain everything to different people.
-ANet servers is not made for this. It’s bad for the medium servers because they don’t have the numbers. It’s bad for the very high servers because you can’t get into the main server and overflows suck. I’m on a high server and we also don’t have enough players for the Assault Knights like the medium servers.
-You can’t make difficult content for this many people. You have 2 options: You can make it easy but it isn’t very interesting to stay there and just DPS. You can make it “hard” and see the results: Assault Knights.

I could write a lot more why Zerg contents are bad but this isn’t the main reason of this post. I’m writing because of the Assault Knights especially the achievement called “Six Minutes to Knightfall”. I made every single one of the achievements from the whole “Living World” (yeah even the Liadri one called “Light up the Darkness”) except this one and I don’t have hope in it anymore. I have already given up. Why? Because I can’t do anything to change things. I have already tried it a way too more times I should have, it was a waste of a lot of time. I can’t do nothing and I’m very sad because of it. I can try it over and over and over and over again with random zergs but it makes no sense and I guess you also know the definition of insanity: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsYnwfXZkX8 . I have made contact with several guilds trying to get this achievement and I also tried with them but nothing… So this made me very sad. I had a goal to complete all of the achievements of the “Living World” and I have failed. It’s ok, failing is part of the life/games but fail because a screwed up achievement like this makes me soooo angry. Should I have 149 skilled friends who plays GW2, have full berserker gear, know what to do, use food and postions and consumables that summon “helpers”? I guess so… Most of the zergs can’t even complete the event under 15 mins since the patch and for the achievement we should do it under 6 mins? It must be a joke but it’s a very bad one. So, the game get me in a very bad state of mood that none of the games should do because I can’t achive my goal due to this. I say it’s ok I will get over it but I don’t want to feel like this once again in the future. So, I ask the question again: Is this going to be a zerg based game or not? The last few content shows that yes, it’s going to be. Please answer my question so I can decide it worths invest more time in this game or I should start looking for another one.

Sorry for the long post but I’m really p*ssed off and thanks for your time.

I don’t think the zergs themselves are the issue, I think the main problem is Gw2 doesn’t have any in game user interface to “properly” manage zergs at this point in time.

There are no tools in game what so ever to manage zergs aside from map chat, and “gather at this commander tag”, which is why a lot of people have to join super guilds like the TTS guilds, and require mandatory participation in TS or whatever.

I don’t agree with you. Zergs are ruining the whole game in my opinion. One of the biggest advantage of an MMORPG that you can get to know interesting people (like guild mates) or you can spend quality time with people you already know (like friends). Zerg are totally the opposite of this.

I used to play World of Warcraft and I joined a guild full of strangers, but after a time I get to know them and I really enjoyed their company during a 25 man raid. I can still recall all of their names. Here it’s the opposite: I can’t tell you one name, just one I enjoyed playing with during the zerg events and I didn’t really get acquainted with anyone and I don’t think I will. I think that 25 player is also a bit much but if ANet could make contents for 5-10 people that would be the best in my opinion. It’s a lot easier to coordinate this many people and during the progress you get to know each other and enjoy yourselves and if you achieve something you all will have a common experience.

While in the Zergs: It’s really hard to coordinate, you don’t really get to know each other because the amount of the people and even if you achieve something you won’t really know with who you did that therefore you won’t have a common experience with anyone. Let’s say you kill the Assault Knights with 150 people and next day with do it again but the team members aren’t completely the same. You wouldn’t be able to tell who was there yesterday so it means it isn’t really important to you.

But this is just my opinion. Maybe Zerg are good and just something wrong with me but one thing is sure. If this keeps going, I must play another game.

As someone already said. The issue with not able to complete this achievement isn’t about zerging, it’s about the achievement itself was badly designed.

To me, Escape from LA was a better LS chapter. It was zergy, but not a lot of insanity-inducing bugs and patches-that-fix-one-thing-and-breaks-two-more.

Hahahaha it seems you didn’t understand me. I like hard content. I have completed “The Light up the Darkness” the hardest achievement of the “Living World” so far in my opinion and I didn’t even write a word about it anywhere, I find it really hard though but I was trying to do it for long hours until I succed.

My problem is that the succession isn’t really depends on me, it depends on a bunch of random people. Even if I do my best at every try I will still fail because of them. It’s okay this is part of the teamplay. But I can’t invest time in my “team members” because they are just a lot of random people and most likely they won’t do what I say or just don’t care or even if some of them take my advice it doesn’t matter because later when I try again to do this boss they won’t be there.

This achievement is really easy by the way I wouldn’t call it hard content. The 149 other people are the hard content.

They do have 5-10 player content though, dungeons, guild missions and fractals. You don’t get to know your Guild members during guild missions?

I agree, the social aspects of Gw2, seem to be not as healthy as a classic mmo I’ve played, but I think that has very little to do with zerg content. My friends list stayed full in dark age of camelot, but there are less than five people on my contacts list in Gw2, and yet, there were no instances in daoc prior to the catacombs expansion.

To me it’s more due to the fact that I’m no longer stuck in dungeons all night leveling with people until I fall alseep at the computer, and there are no 3 hour+ raids (open world) in Gw2, along with various other reasons.

(I personally I don’t think that’s because of the game, it’s just that I’ve changed over the years)

Man, nobody talked about dungeons. We have problems with the LS content. Stick to the topic.

On the contrary, GW and GW2 communities are so far the best communities I’ve come across in the last 8+ years. I always find new online friends almost every week just by hanging out 1 or 2 hours in LA.

Yeah, you have got a point there. Dungeons and Guild Missions are great and I agree with ANet about the game, well, most of the time (about grinding, dungeons etc…) But I really hate zergs. Do you really enjoy zerging arround? I don’t know what people like in it. In some places (like WvWvW) it’s ok in my opinion but zergs should stay out from the major part of the game.

It’s not about people, its about lame bugged content. Content that stays for only 2 weeks and its bugged for 7 days so far and counting. Mechanics are simple, everyone got the hang of it really fast, and yet it is still impossible to do it event with good group. Why? Because for some reason bosses scale up for 50 people and only 50 people, meaning that if you go for it with 20-30 people, you can be happy if you even kill it in 15 minutes.

Seriously anet, quit those lame scaling bs and make events more appropriate for smaller groups of people. No one likes to zerg!

I like the chaos.

Spells and attacks flying everywhere, large groups of people getting taken out by large attacks, or swarms of mobs, moving about the land in a huge force, etc.
