So, what's up with Rytlock?
What are we talking about here?
|Daredevil|Ranger|Guardian|Scrapper|Necromancer|Berserker|Dragonhunter|Mesmer|Elementalist
|Deadeye|Warrior|Herald|Daredevil|Reaper|Spellbreaker
i think he or she is talking about the dialog for origins of maddness?
if i see rytlock i will let you know eh
Rytlock runs (ran?) around in bloodtide investigating the wurm site probes using the waypoints. It was on reddit a few weeks back.
Yes, he suppossedely appears at some point investigating the probes. But, yeah… I have not been lucky enough to find him.
did he have audio? that kinda sux if they called in the voice actor for something a lot of people missed.. prolly cuz of the wurm z_z
I believe so. I don’t know why so much secrecy around it. I asked a dev and was told she/he can’t say. I’m afraid he will be gone and forgotten. Just want to get the dialogue on the wiki.
Here’s the original thread documenting this.
Hope that helps. I haven’t run into him yet either.

I’m pretty sure he won’t spawn anymore now that the Origins of Madness event is over (just like how Rox and Co. disappeared from Lornar’s Pass after the initial 2 weeks were over). Which is a shame, really. A lot of lore is being lost to posterity because the Wiki archivists don’t get a chance to document it properly before it goes away.
I agree.
Although Rytlock’s aide-camp says he’s still there, so there still might be a chance to see him.
But I just don’t get why would you keep this hidden like this. Specially because it contains important and relevant information. It makes no sense.
Here’s the original thread documenting this.
Hope that helps. I haven’t run into him yet either.
Sadly we all got to nothing in that thread. Someone was lucky to record some of it, but that’s just it.
rytlock has no pants!
So, find the pants in order to find Rytlock? I’ll get on it!
From what I have heard the event only triggers after a successful wurm kill.
Sadly, I’ve won and never found him.
<Part 01>
Hi guys,
I’m sorry to say, but Rytlock + crew were only around during that first OoM release since his scenes were tied into what was being revealed at that point. After that release ended I removed him from that spot. He and his group shouldn’t be appearing anywhere in Bloodtide Coast any more.
Someone on my team pointed out this thread to me today so I and asked if I could share the scenes with you guys (for posterity!). I really appreciate all the effort that people have taken to update the wiki with scenes like this so I wanted to make sure you guys got it in some form. I hope this helps!
So, without further ado!
Rytlock and his crew had three groups of scenes – one at each of the Great Jungle Wurm locations. The scenes started at Cobalt, moved to Crimson, and ended at Amber. In each case the crew would start at a nearby waypoint and run up to investigate the new probes that appeared at those locations.
The actors are Rytlock Brimstone, Junia Twistgear (Chief Engineer), and three of Twistgear’s workers.
Scene 01 – Cobalt
Rytlock: Twistgear! What do you make of this one?
Junia Twistgear: Sir, it’s similar in design to the others we’ve seen set up all over Tyria.
Rytlock: (sigh) Yes. I can see that, soldier. What I want to know is what it’s for.
Junia Twistgear: And why there are more of them here, suddenly.
Junia Twistgear: Of course, Tribune.
<Little scene break while the workers and Twistgear investigate>
Scene 02 – Cobalt
Rytlock: These belong to that Scarlet character, don’t they? The one that spoiled the Queen’s Jubilee not long ago?
Junia Twistgear: It does remind me of the portals she’s been using to launch her random invasions all over Tyria.
Rytlock: Scarlet stole the queen’s toy soldiers and holed up in the new pavilion for weeks. Logan’s Seraph were helpless to stop her.
Rytlock: She was behind that Flame-mole business, that sky pirate attack on Dragon Bash, and that nightmare tower in Kessex.
Rytlock: Seems like every intelligence report that crosses my desk lately has something to do with that lunatic sylvari.
Rytlock: What if it’s not random? Each time she turns up, she’s less of a nuisance and more of a threat.
<Little scene break while the workers get shocked by one of the probes and Twistgear reprimands them>
Scene 03 – Cobalt
Junia Twistgear: Tribune, its defenses are still active, and still very formidable.
Rytlock: So I see. (grumble) Just learn what you can at a safe distance.
Rytlock: Maybe we’ll have better luck with another one.
<Another scene break while Twistgear and crew investigate further. After a while Twistgear pulls everyone back together and returns to Rytlock>
Scene 04 – Cobalt
Rytlock: Anything for me yet?
Junia Twistgear: I have some ideas, Tribune, but I need to see the others and compare what we’re seeing here.
Rytlock: Fine, but in the meantime, I didn’t drag you here to keep your thoughts to yourself.
Junia Twistgear: It reminds me of a seismic probe, for finding underground resources with vibrations.
Junia Twistgear: These probes weren’t designed to find something physical, though.
Junia Twistgear: If these are Scarlet’s, she’s using them all over Tyria to look for something magical. Something big.
Rytlock: (growl) Well done, Twistgear. Let’s have a look at those other new…probes.
<Cobalt scene group ends. Rytlock + Crew progress over to the Crimson probe location>
Scene 01 – Crimson
Rytlock: All right, Twistgear, what can you tell me about this device?
Junia Twistgear: It looks to be nearly identical to the others we’ve investigated, Tribune.
Rytlock: What does it mean, that there are more of them turning up here?
Junia Twistgear: Hard to be certain yet, sir.
Rytlock: (growl) Yes, well, get to it.
<Scene break while Twistgear once again orders her workers to investigate the device. After a bit, Rytlock speaks>
Scene 02 – Crimson
Rytlock: Would you guess this device is Scarlet’s handiwork?
Junia Twistgear: I…wouldn’t want to guess one way or the other before we’re finished here, Tribune.
Rytlock: (growl) Scorch it, I’m just asking you to confirm the obvious, Twistgear.
Junia Twistgear: Yes, sir. It does seem similar to the machinery Scarlet Briar’s been using to launch invasions all over Tyria.
Junia Twistgear: On the other hand, if this device is hers, it seems to have another purpose.
<Scene break again – one of the workers decides again that it’d be a great idea to touch one of the devices>
Scene 03 – Crimson
Rytlock: Twistgear, can you please remind your people to quit touching this thing?
Junia Twistgear: Yes, sir. Of course.
Junia Twistgear: You lot heard the tribune! Let’s examine the device at a respectable distance.
<Another break before Twistgear goes around to gather up her workers and then report to Rytlock>
Scene 04 – Crimson
Rytlock: All right. You’ve been at this awhile now. What have you learned here?
Junia Twistgear: Sir, the more of these devices I see in action, the more sure I am that they are a kind of probe, designed to locate…something.
Rytlock: (growl) What sort of something is that insane sylvari probing for?
Junia Twistgear: Whatever she’s after is big, sir. And magical.
Rytlock: I’m not sure I like where this is leading. Let’s go look at the other new probes she’s set up around the area.
< The whole crew once again moves on, but this time to the Amber probe location>
Scene 01 – Amber
Rytlock: Here we are—yet another of these new devices.
Rytlock: Have a look and tell me as soon as you have any ideas.
Junia Twistgear: Of course, Tribune. We’re on it.
<Scene break while Twistgear orders her workers to disperse and investigate the probe and the area. Unfortunately another worker decides to get a little too close to the probe.>
Scene 02 – Amber
Junia Twistgear: Tribune, it looks as if all of these devices can defend themselves.
Rytlock: It does at that. Back your people away from it and learn at a safe distance.
<Another break while Twistgear also walks around and investigates before returning to Rytlock>
Scene 03 – Amber
Rytlock: So, you agree by now that these were built by Scarlet?
Junia Twistgear: That’s right, sir. The devices have all her signature touches.
Junia Twistgear: We could learn a lot from these probes if we could get close enough to take one apart.
Rytlock: (growl) You almost sound as if you admire her handiwork, Twistgear.
Junia Twistgear: Scarlet Briar may be insane, but her designs are high quality.
Rytlock: Your candor is refreshing, even if I don’t like the implications of your findings much.
<One final break while the crew does some further investigations. Then Twistgear gathers them all up and reports one last time to Rytlock>
Scene 04 – Amber
Rytlock: Report, Twistgear. Let’s hear what you’ve learned.
Junia Twistgear: These are magical probes of some kind, Tribune. I’m sure of it.
Junia Twistgear: There are three new probes in this area, which tells me that Scarlet may have found something important here.
Junia Twistgear: I believe she’s triangulating, trying to zero in on the location of something magical. Something huge.
Rytlock: Whatever that something is, I have a feeling we don’t want her to find it. Tell your people we’re moving out again.
Depending on the status of the main Great Jungle Wurm events and their pre-events, these scenes would continue to cycle through each of the locations (after a slight break) until the status of those events barred them from spawning again. They showed up after completion (success or failure!) of the main wurm event and upon failure of the escort events. Always looping through.
I hope that helped!

You must wield some impressive powers indeed, if you can just walk up to Rytlock and remove him. But thank you for sharing that.

Thanks so much for this, Sarah! Somebody grab Konig or one of the other Wiki gurus and get them over here!
Yes! I love reading all this stuff, especially if I missed it in game. Thanks for posting the dialogue!
Sarah, after a month of trying from all angles to get this, I truly appreciate this from the bottom of my heart! Thank you!
P.S. Someone said they had dialogues if you talked to Rytlock or Junia, giving background to Junia that might be implying she’ll be important at some point. Is it true? If so, it would be awesome to have them too if it’s not too much to ask.

He probably left the second Lion’s Arch got throttled, realizing that if it’s getting hit, the Black Citadel could be next. To be honest, I was rather surprised to see that Scarlet only hit Lion’s Arch, but didn’t bother sending any enemy troops into the other major cities. I was hoping to see the Charr blow apart the bridge and the Asura gate in the Black Citadel.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
That would mean dividing her forces. Making them easier to break for us and to interrupt her machinations. Plus, she gains nothing from attacking other cities.

Sarah wears ascended Devlar armour and dual wields a pair of pearly handled Dev-olvers. Rytlock aint got nothing on her!
Thanks for posting the transcripts!
I tried the wurm event probably 50+ times and I never even knew this content existed! I think this is a major problem for the LS content in general. I know it’s nice for stuff to be hidden but there becomes a point where its ‘too’ hidden. As in, so rare or only triggered by a certain sequence of events that a very very small percentage of the playerbase ever gets to see it. Its such a shame that such quality content might only be seen and appreciated by a handful of people.
OTOH, there is an even bigger problem in my opinion in which player battle-cries and one-liners interrupt the flow of the LS conversations and make it ruin the experience of drawing you into the story. There is nothing worse than hearing “For Great Justice!” and “I feel…STRONG!” every 2 seconds while listening to Taimi and Braham talk to each other in the EotM. Adjusting audio levels can help to an extent except for the fact that Dialogue and Player shouts are tied into the same volume slider.
usually non-ambient npc dialogues are recorded in the log ^
also, it’s ‘scenes’ like this that make the game awesome.. it’s a bonus when you run upto a character and get a ‘talk’ instead of a ‘greet’ as long as such things remain simple to navigate.. i remember in “moment’s peace” logan kind of just walks off.. i was like q_q come back, i must read you..
anyway, thanks much for posting this.. i’m surprised arenanet doesn’t have someone working for them who has direct access to certain materials and free time to catalogue/record them so they can be released in an official/unofficial capacity.. again, i appreciate just being able to read that though
as for the lore.. i found it strange that the wurm appearance somewhat triangulates over http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Krait_Place_of_Power
although it’s a ‘krait’ place of power, and the location is overrun with risen.. i found the wording interesting.. Primal force, heart of the Planet..

kitten . I missed this one totally, mainly because I wasn’t at all interested in the Wurm events.
Maybe it’s an idea that after an event has finished, the scripts are made public on either the site or the forums for people to read them and use it for future reference

Well you could always enter them into the Wiki…
Wasn’t the point of this thread the fact that the event was gone before anyone had a chance to do that?
Wasn’t the point of this thread the fact that the event was gone before anyone had a chance to do that?
I’m pretty sure lots of people had that chance, none just chose to.
But yes, this was hidden pretty well from view. The best solution would obviously have been to have it more visible and/or advertised somehow so that more people would have happened to it (and thus more likely to add it to the Wiki).
Thanks for posting, Sarah. The dialogue you provided is very much appreciated. I added it into the wiki in Rytlock’s quotes page.
Such a shame I missed this dialogue in the game itself; it sure is interesting. Hopefully we’ll see more of Junia Twistgear in the future. ^^
Oh, nice log of the conversations. I missed them completely. Thanks Sarah.

I have to play without sound and I read fast, so the opposite can also be true…

Thanks for the info
This is unfortunately exactly what is wrong with the living story right now though. All that work, and the only way we can ever see it again is to ask a dev on the forums to post conversation logs :/
I really hope you guys get the technology required to circumvent this problem before the next “living story chapter” gets started. Whether that be through some form of instance replay system, a restructuring of how the story is delivered, or whatever else.
I honestly want more of these transcripts done. It’s hard to get all of them specially if u don’t have enough time to play the game. Not to mention u can’t remember the continuation of the story and so on.
As for the triangulation… so it triangulated in Bloodtide Coast….but the probe went gree in LA which is another map. What’s up with that?
triangulation is a system of measurements.. scarlet used All the probes to ’zero in’ on Lion’s arch.. the ones near bloodtide shook up the wurm, but i don’t think it’s integral to what she’s looking for..
i just think the skillpoint there is part of a recurring theme of dark magic and dragon corruption.. a possible prelude? it’s interesting to see several variations of that throughout tyria.. as for logical deduction of where the living story is going.. *shrugs*
(edited by cheshirefox.7026)
Oh that’s interesting , so there might be no dragon after all but a huge magical energy source which can make creatures stronger?
Mmm let’s say this source mutated tequatl and those normaly easy to kill jungle worms.
The thing scarlet may want is only this energy to transform herself into something?
in the tower of nightmares lab, i found the seed she was making more resilient interesting.. but then again, i found the steam creatures interesting and the only thing it had to do with the plot was she reverse engineered them z_z
I saw the original Reddit post about this a few weeks ago when the wurm event first started. I hung out after every event near Cobalt (event was always a failure) and I never saw Rytlock. I did this for a few days trying to catch him, but I never caught him. I’m wondering (because the dev said he spawned even if the event failed) if it might have been bugged? I seriously waited from one wurm event to the next in the cobalt area all day.
