I noticed that with this patch the Breachmaker has gone further deeper into where it’s drilling, which is a nice touch. But that got me thinking of the last (and only other) time we saw the giant floating ship, and that was for the Marionette boss fight.

So, the point of the Marionette was for Scarlet to test a powerful new weapon. This is the conclusion of the story, and we encountered neither Marionette nor the weapon being tested. Leaves us wondering, what was the purpose of the Marionette in the first place?

Those assault knights looked a lot like the marionette to me.

There are the same green lasers in Lion’s arch, currently. They are just fired more frequently and have less power.

The weapon was the Aether Megalaser that we had to keep from charging during the Marionette fight, not the Marionette itself. The Marionette was intended by Scarlet to lure all her enemies close enough to blast them with the laser (which was aimed directly down from her airship).

In Lion’s Arch, it is heavily implied that the megalaser firing down the drill shaft is the massive energy burst that aggravates the ley lines.
