Well, I normally keep these sort of feelings bottled inside but since I avoid the main forums because of the loud “frothing at the mouth” hatred, I thought why can’t I be loud about my “frothing at the mouth” fangirlism!

I want to say how much I love the writing of GW2. I love love love love it! I’m an aspiring writer (aren’t we all) and seeing the subtle ways things are done in GW2 really inspires me. In regards to this patch, I’m specifically talking about Scarlet.

YES I KNOW random gw2 player and keyboard owner; you hate scarlet! We ALL know how much you hate Scarlet, but this is my opinion piece here.

When Scarlet first came out her most appealing point was her voice acting. It made me giggle. However, past that, I could leave her or take her, but now…. I love her. There is some subtly to the writing that sparks the imagination of what Scarlet was, and really is. To me she feels deeper than her initial branding, and deeper than she’d like to let the people of Tyria know.

It has always been my opinion that the best villain is one you can rewrite the story from their point of view and make them the hero. If you don’t pay attention to the lore or the subtly of the writing it is easy to miss just how much of a tragic villain she is and I ended up pitying her. Making the reader/watcher/player pity a character that has been so unequivocally evil (She was going to eat Lord Faren!) takes the cake.

This post was not made to change people’s minds or “defend the honor” of one of my favourite video game characters. You think what you want, no skin off my nose! I just wanted to express my admiration to the writers who I feel are under-appreciated.

So in summary; Thank you fantastic gw2 peoples (writers, developers, animators, artists) – you all contributed to giving me goosebumps during the finale. If I could meet you, I would give you a big kiss and tell you all how lovely and talented you are Take it easy and know some random chick in Australia is sending you warm fuzzy vibes!

(You needn’t read on further; it’s just going to be people telling me how “misguided” I am. Edit; actually the first few comments were lovely!)

I agree completely. Honestly, I never understood this Scarlet-hate. I suspect that a lot of people were on the fence, but when they saw others hating on Scarlet they thought—“Oh hey, better jump on the bandwagon!”
I honestly felt bad when I killed Scarlet. There’s no possible way she can be redeemed after her actions, but it still made me sad her life had to end that way.

I will miss Scarlet. She was so cute <3

I remember her playhouse (crown pavilion) – funny door that knocks you back when you touch it. Her crazy laugh and dialogs.

One of my alts still keeps her gift in his mail box.

I’ve defended Scarlet story for a while now! I loved the adventure of discovering her mindset update after update! I thought it was really good how anet slowly unveiled her and developed her. Other games rush things way too much!

I never like Scarlet and always thought she was such a sideshow for the story they could have been doing instead. It wasn’t so much that I hated Scarlet herself, I just thought from a lore perspective there were so many more interesting story arcs that could have been done not to mention mysteries left over from GW1 that could easily tie into another dragon.

But….

That changed when I talked to a guildy of mine who is a lore junkie. He came to the conclusion that Scarlet seems like a big deal now, but would just be a conduit to something way bigger. And that began to make sense to me. Looks like he was right.

I’m glad her death has opened the door to bigger possibilities.
Now I have more interest in what falls out from all this compared to the story building up to it.

Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!
