Mandatory overflow complaint: Anet, please let us play with out friends! If we enter in the same party we should not be split up. The next step would be to let us play with our guildies.

Mandatory cry for the obvious solution: CHOICE OF OVERFLOWS.
It existed in GW1, it is well past time that it is implemented in GW2. Overflows are one of the biggest problems with this game, that brought up so many complaints for all major events, like Tequatl, Marionette, Wurm, Tower, LA….. We have the guild system and f-list, we should be able to make use of it.

24 hrs later (after my last rant), I still havnt played this event on my own server. I dont see the point of having a home server when you cant even play on it

Allow me to explain how an Overflow works. Each map can only hold a finite amount of players (estimated between 100 to 150). When that map fills, a new one is created. It’s a duplicate of the map you’re trying to get into, and is called an Overflow server.

The fact that you can’t get into your main home server, means the event is popular, and there’s more players on your home server than a single map can hold.

Let me know if you need a more detailed explanation of what an Overflow is, and I’ll gladly assist you.

In GW2, Trading Post plays you!

Just wanted to say, after the first couple times on launch day, I no longer have this issue. My party has no trouble joining me now and I often make it into main. Either ANet tweaked something or sheer numbers have died down a bit. Either way I’m happy.

Did they remove the option to join on people in your group?

No network lag?
Are you playing the same game I am?

I played for 5 hours after the patch yesterday and experienced no lag. This was in a TS of over 200 people and I read no complaints on map chat. In fact, a lot of people on TS gave credit for Anet that this didn’t turn out like the Karka invasion.

Unless you are specifically referring to the network lag that happened for the past 2 weeks – that is an entirely different issue that is of no fault from Anet.

I’m aware of that issue. It seemed to me like it was still ongoing, as I couldn’t maintain a connection to the game for longer than 5 minutes.

the overflow situation is really ruining my enjoyment.
For one, all evening I did not manage to get into one zone with my fiance. Second, for 7 hours I was rescuing citizens but not once were the overflows able to manage to rescue 1200.
No matter if it is Teq or LA., once players are in overflow, most of them do not even seem to try. They are just used to it failing no matter how much they personally invest.
When I asked in map chat why nobody seems to try to rescue, I got responses like “because it is overflow” and “it does not help that we don’t have commanders”.

Seriously, something has to change! Overflows need to be better managed, guesting better controlled (priority for players on their home server), events where possible need to scale better. Distribute the players evenly to different overflows and then scale or something.

Events should always awards attempts and events like LA should reward players better for rescuing citizens. At the moment it is more rewarding to go champ hunting in LA and hope that other people will reach the goal of 1200!

When I returned to the game in january, i could not understand people who complained about the overflow because i think in theory it is a kitten good idea and serves a really good purpose. Over the last weeks though, I grew really really tired of this.
Something has to change.

Our entire guild actually waits for the main to fill before going in for overflows to form and joins party invites so that we can play together and not take up the main server. I like them for that reason.

They should have done away with the whole logical server thing for PvE a long time ago. Split your WvW server of choice (keeping ofc all the restrictions in place we have now) from the PvE environment you play on and move back to the district system. Then subdivide by language to keep spam down and it’s job done. :
O There’s no main server to try to get into, so all districts will try equally hard
O You can tell your friends and guildies which district to go to without all that tedious taxi’ing.
O And you don’t need to worry about under populated servers as open world zones will just fill up dynamically.

I really can’t see how you’d need a lot more hardware/bandwidth as you do now, as they load balance already and the overall load would be about the same.

All this does is make it a darn sight better for the players.

It is very, very unlikely that all overflows were full. Unless you were there 10 minutes before the event finished…
If you are all there in time, there is no way that overflows would be full so fast. That’s how overflow maps work. So yeah… pay attention next time.

I went through the portal at the same time as my girlfriend. Immediately when we loaded, I tried to join on her. Full. Then she tried to join on me. Full.

The overflows were filling within 10-15 seconds of creation, as best as I can tell.

go in late.

Don’t go into map at xx:07 or whenever it opens, wait til xx:012 .. overflows being created should even out then.

I can’t say I’ve had this issue, I have yet to be split from a party made before hand.

They definitely need to get rid of servers for PvE. It only hurts us. I have to guest to get anything done in events like these. Heck, I guest just to get into an overflow. I’ve never been in an overflow that’s gotten fewer than 900 citizens and most of them are still getting 1200.

My main barely gets 600 on a good night.

Get rid of servers for PvE. It’d be one of the best things they could do for this game.

Or maybe we should get rid of overflows and bring the queue system back. Maybe that’d make you high pop server people move to other servers :P

Perhaps they will consider eliminating the PvE server concept if we continue and intensify the trend of all guesting to the same server to intentionally create full overflow instances instead of remaining spread out in half-full zones on our home servers.
