Trolls allowed under "play how you want"?

Trying to get the ‘No free lunch’ achievement for the Champion Spider Queen. Immediately someone runs in and says, “Lets get eaten” and deliberately fails it for everyone there then laughing about it.
I’m not sure how this kind of behaviour is handled by Anet. The report function doesn’t even have the option to report for griefing. I submitted a ticket, but since it doesn’t seem to allow for the inclusion of screenshots, I’m not sure if they can ever verify the report.

You can always send an email to support@guildwars2.com and attach a screenshot. Just put your ticket number in the heading.

Here’s a question.
Why didn’t you kill the cocoon? You can target and destroy the cocoon yourself.
They can make it only slightly harder by not helping to destroy the cocoon from within, but if you are really working on it..
1. Be there BEFORE it spawns so that there’s enough to take out anyone cocooned. Don’t wait for it to spawn before you get there.
2. Focus down cocoons.
3. Immobilize/Chill on the spider is important if there is someone who isn’t helping to destroy the cocoon from within whether because of lag or trolling.
Play better. Play smarter.

That guy jumped at the queen itself. He was cocooned right in front of it.

That’s why point number 1 is to be there BEFORE it spawns so that you can react to that. If your entire group engages, he has a 1 in X chance of being the one being targeted.

to solve your issue…get together with a group of like minded individuals who have the same goal as you (raid)..find an empty overflow if you can (instance)..get on teamspeak and collaborate and it should be cake getting the achievement.

If there was no one else there before it spawned, I don’t know how this piece of advice is useful at all.
Seems someone will always have something to say to excuse bad behaviour.

There will always be someone who will want to play lawyer to excuse bad behavior, and although this very rare in real life (probably from fear getting stomped) it will continue to be the norm in instances such as this. Where anonymity is the name of the game and some people take that as free license to be kitten bags. Unfortunately the only thing you can do is wait until the next spider appears and try again.

Saw this happen several times until I got the achievement. But thats just bad game design if one person can ruin the game of a whole group of people, so its actually a good thing trolls do this so Anet learns it eventually

And it seems like you were just an unfortunate victim of poor circumstances. Most players don’t actively grief others. The population of players piggy backing encounters is small, and the percent of people actively hindering encounters smaller still. That they got to the encounter before everyone else is also unfortunate. What can I say, but tough luck, report it to support, try again with a group of supportive players, and this is a game not a life altering experience. It’s likely not to happen again. All these suggestions given will only increase your odds of doing it successfully. No one is guaranteeing you success. If you want a guaranteed method you aren’t going to get it as that’s life nearly every event to happen is probable not certain.

I’m not sure how this issue is connected to my life at all. So many armchair life gurus.
This isn’t the first time this has happened. Although they may not be so explicit about it, at every attempt there’s always someone who doesn’t listen.
I just wanted to know if there is a general trend of Anet ignoring the more obvious trolls/griefers, and I also wanted to flag this as bad design. The first reply was pretty informative, but everybody else has been wasting their time.

It was a suggestion that even if you don’t get the achievement to remember where this sits among your life’s priorities. I should hope it is toward the bottom, but it’s your life if you wish this to cause you mental anguish, by all means. I never claimed to be a life guru, just a person that lives that can offer you perspective.

Not listening is not just evidence of trolling. It can also be evidence of, well, not listening, not being capable of multi-tasking (playing attention to chat and the game), or just playing sloppily.

Impossible to reasonably tell. People are more likely to report negative experiences than positive ones. I’ve never had a spider eat a cocoon in the few times I’ve done it, for example, but didn’t bother starting a post about it. No one writes a post about doing an encounter without trolls because it isn’t remarkable, it’s remarkable to have an encounter ruined by trolls. Thank you for making your report, but to be fair you could have not responded to anyone. Your responses indicated that you wished to discuss the topic further and that the first post wasn’t really enough.

I don’t think you get it. There’s no suggestion whatsoever that this is affecting my life or causing anguish. Was I annoyed that this guy was so brazen about it? Sure. Who wouldn’t be?
And since you don’t seem to understand what I’m looking for, maybe you should just save the effort of replying.

I see. I misattributed a defeatest attitude to your responses, i apologize. Good luck on your next try then!

Yes, trolling is allowed. If he wants to play a suicidal guy, he can do that. And hey, if at first you dont succeed, try try try again!

Except that if the OP wants the achievement, they can get a group or two of friends to be sitting at the spawn point waiting for the champ to spawn. If they engage immediately then they will have 10 or more people ALREADY READY to destroy cocoons and no one can bother them.
I wasn’t excusing bad behavior. I was telling them how they must proceed to have a better chance. They can’t just wait for it to spawn and then run there from wherever they hell they are and HOPE that it succeeds. They need to be proactive.
1. Get there before the champ spawn.
2. Engage immediately.
3. Focus only on killing cocoons. Then if no cocoons do damage to spider.
4. ???
5. Profit.

That’s called harassing. Take a screenshot or make a video and report the player(s).

Oh, hey. Yeah, it is. I’ve got a reply that says it’s being investigated and I’ve sent screens to help the investigation.
Glad to see that Anet is at least acknowledging this.

Well I’ve seen a couple of time something similar during boss fight.
I’m not really against afk player, it may happens, it may be a way to get an achi, unless they are so many to be overwhelming and ruin the encounter its not a big deal for me.
Still I saw some people go on like “bb guys goin for dinner do the job for me ahah” and nonsense like this.
I don’t get how there is no report function about on purpose disruptive gameplay and also there is no statament on explicit sanction for this, and I don’t mean something huge since I understand that this are obviously people with trouble in real life that need to spread their frustration and sadness inside a game to someone else the feel better, but still we can’t let them act like kids. A 24h ban seems right to me.
As it stand right now if you want to report this you see no compatible option, you suppose that anet doesn’t care and since you don’t even know what they will do if they find that your report is true there is no incetive to go on.
