I defeated scarlet…. entered into “scarlet’s end”
Then when i was inside went to talk to the npcs…. and they said “We’ll follow you” and i went to the shiny green star and got sent back to Lion’s arch.
Maybe you should make it so players know where they are supposed to go and don’t have to do all that all over again just for going the wrong direction.
Words cannot describe my disappointment.
Well you could just take a look around yourself a bit don’t you think?
Look Black, if you had played any of your personal story istances you would know by now the green dot always marks the exit. Plus, you just enter from the green point, so logic dictates you should go the opposite way.

I’m pretty sure one of the guys tells you that scarlet is wounded down there.
Well in the first moment I was there I was also a bit confused if I had to go up or down. But soon I saw where Scarlet layed and the NPCs tell you in the dialogue before that they are gonna follow you, and they only do so if you take the right direction.
Also, from other ps- and ls-instances, I only know the green marker as a sign where you can exit the instance, wich is the case here too so yeah in the end its your fault.

That simply isn’t true.
Take the temple of the forgotten god for example.
It can mark anything from an npc you need to talk with, or an object you need to interact with.
It literally says exit to lion’s arch when you walk over the green star.

This. It exactly says “Exit to Lion’s Arch (Enemy Controlled)?” “Exit” would mean leave the instance, and “Lion’s Arch (Enemy Controlled)” is the name of the main map. Absolutely no confusion there.

I wanted a horse not a pony for my birthday
Oh whatever, stop complaining about a stupid mistake you made because you didn’t bother to read a sentence. Just go back and do it right this time.

If you put a quest marker on top of a portal, and when you interact with said portal it says its taking you back out to the area you just came from, I would draw the conclusion that the quest wanted me to go outside.
I think what you guys fail to understand is…
There is no confusion whether or not I was leaving that room…
I knew i was going outside.
The confusion was that I thought I was supposed to go back outside when I was not supposed to because of the quest marker.
There’s a more subtle (wrong) clue. Then NPCs tell me they want me to take the lead, so reasonably they would be behind me, so that I can lead them towards the boss. By that clue, the direction to go is up the stairs, not down.
Other (wrong pointing) clue. In the cinematic we see Scarlet on top of the drill machine, hence it pretty reasonable to expect to go up and out onto the roof to finish the fight.
Third (wrong pointing) clue. In progressing in instances, you generally tend to proceed in same direction. Since we just ported up, I would expect to continue moving up.
Personally… When they said they wanted me to lead, I started heading up, but then noticed that they weren’t following me, and then turned around and went down. (The reason that I was more cautious and double checked what the NPCs were doing is that I’ve made the exact sort of mistake as the OP in the past.)
Re the green star: It appears in solo instances to show you where to go for your personal story. If its in a solo instance that is not related to your personal story, then it shows the exit. This is bad and sloppy design.
The whole point of a quest pointer like the green star is to show you where to go for the quest. The whole point is to hold the players hand and tell them the right way to go. Which means that its failing miserably here since its actually pointing the wrong way to go. What Anet should do is just not show the green star in solo instances that are unrelated to the personal story.
Now could you argue that a more careful player should not make the mistakes? Sure. But its besides the point. Given the miscues, its inevitable that notable percentage of the players will make the wrong choice here. And that’s Anet’s fault. Part of design is to be aware of the cues that you’re handing out — and to make sure that they are the right cues.

No.
There was NOTHING wrong with it, it was obvious what you should have done, and anyone paying attention would be able to see it.
Player-side problem here. Move along.
Without wanting to be rude but:
I still don’t get how anyone could exit the instance and miss out on the main purpose they even went in for…
Even if you take the wrong path first and go upstairs… As soon as you see the green star with the “exit” popup, some common sense should kick in… Something like “Oh, am I already finihsed? That can’t be right. Let’s see what else is in here first…” – regardless of where you think the exit will take you – back to LA or outside the Airship for an epic battle.
But maybe that’s just me.
I understand what you mean with the same symbol being used for different things though (quest marker vs. exit in instances). That should be reworked throughout the whole game, maybe by using the yellow stars they introduced with the LS as questmarkers right from the beginning – also for the main personal story…? Then they could still use the green ones as exit markers in instances. But that’s just an idea.

… Seriously, the amount of pointless complains on this forum………..
So. You just finished the hologram fight. You run toward the yellow-greenish star marking the entrance of an instance like it always worked.
Fact #1: You enter an instance. If you are in party: you’re said so. If you’re alone, it seems quite obvious you’re in one just by the fact you’re
a) alone
b) on a map surrounded with red lines.
c) Game developers usually try the most possible to avoid pointless loadings; what you’re saying is that you believed Anet would randomly make you load two different maps in a short time (and instance and a full persistent map), although they’ve never done it before.
Fact #2: You’re shown going downstair with a camera traveling going through the ground to the entrance inside the instance.
- Therefore, it would be dumb to send you back up again. Follow the flow of events.
Fact #3: Living stories always used yellow stars instead of the green ones. When you enter the instance and walk toward the yellow star (the NPCs), a big title appears telling you to go find Scarlet downstair… And a yellow star marks where she is.
Fact #4: Going to the green star asks your permission to exit the instance. Refer to Fact #1 & 2 as of why it would be dumb to exit like that.
Considering these facts, I fail to understand your logic. Yes, you’re the one to blame for blindy, without using your own logic and common sense, following a green star. You have to pay more attention to what you do.
Now if you’re mad about this, you can always craft the fine Spinal Backpack for ~ 5 gold and enter, at will, the ending sequence instance with the south-west portal (look on your map, south-west of the trill, big yellow icon near the water).

What are you even talking about?
We saw Scarlet on top of the drill in the cinematic two weeks ago. That’s no idication anymore. If you follow the events and fight the hologram on top, you can see Scarlet walking inside, even if you follow her and port into the story instance, you get a small cinematic which leads you down to the npcs to talk to. I’d say everything points down, from following Scarlet inside to the cinematic upon entering the instance.
Personal Story Quest-Marker usually points to objectives in your Personal Story. Since your Personal Story takes place outside of the Breachmarker, it’s only logical that the green star is at the exit. Living Story has it’s own quest marker, the yellow star. You can argue that this one is missing here, but the green star is always at the exit if you’re not in your Personal Story.
Edit: I’m just trying to get the “Nowhere to hide” achievement and noticed: There is a yellow star. No mistakes on Arenanet’s side, just on yours.

It’s not a big deal, you made a mistake, just try it again. Should go fine next time. Mistakes happen every now and then, don’t get too upset about them.
Edit:
You can even enter the final stage to try again without doing the knights and hologram if you have the spinal back piece.

Lol, and it looks like your going the wrong way with this thread too. It would be better just to delete this thread and eat your own mistakes. Yes green star is PS and yellow star is LS. Now it would be nice if Anet would allow us to turn one or both off, but it’s really not Anet’s fault it’s yours bc you should know that, it’s on you for not knowing it.
Make a ticket and ask for an account rollback to undo this mistake. :P

In addition…. As some of you have stated, you can build the spinal blades backpiece and use the portal to skip to the end (through the pink portal in LA.)
I want to say thanks to those people, because I did not know about that portal when I posted this thread.
I followed the yellow star, since I remembered the green star beein the exit and I STILL ENDED UP IN LIONS ARCH. There wasnt even a warning or anything. Just instant loading screen.
I am not very happy…

Leech, get yourself a blueprint, build a backpack, and then go to the southwest of the map, and work your way to the vista. On the way there, on the right there’ll be a portal that will let you in if you’re wearing that back item. It allows for skipping straight to Scarlet.

You don’t even have to wear it.
Mine is stored in the bank and I could enter
NPCs say “We’ll follow you!”
Main character runs away.
NPCs follow.
Scarlet gets up and kills everyone.
The end.
