What ever happened to cool LS rewards?

It used to be like almost every living story had some cool back piece, head armor, some sort of skin that was worth doing it for (for people other than lore/achievement chasers). Now every single time it has been like a bag of supplies or some gold… What happened to the cool stuff…? It’s been a while now. I hope this isn’t going to be an ongoing trend. :S

There is a back piece for this new LS.
It’s about blades or something. You make it by earning things from doing the events and achievements and can get it up to ascended quality.

I’m talking about the meta achievements, and as skins (pvp players too).

Probably because they are trying to make it so the meta achievements (or the exclusive item that goes along with it) isn’t as easily grinded to.

This game doesn’t need more grinding. It was fine as it was… 2-3 days of several hours should be enough per 2 week LS. that’d be like an hour a day maybe a bit less. This isn’t supposed to be a grindy game… It was fine how it was…

Some skins were always supposed to be grindy. It was just stats that they promised would never require a grind.
(And then they added ascended stuff, so everything can be grindy now! In fact, a few months before release they listed a lot of things they thought were bad in other MMOs and all those things got added to the game within a year. Oops.)

They already had a good system. you got cool kitten for participating in the living event and putting the effort in the meta. I stopped doing LS all together since they stopped rewarding it. I’m a PvPer, it was the only ounce of PVE I could handle because at least then I had something for my PVP toons.

Initially they thought exotics would be much more difficult for players to get, so ascended was brought it. From what I can tell this amounts to what they hoped exotics would be. If anything, that level of gear is really only for folks who want to work for it, and is not necessary for any content except high level fractals, which is already endgame like content.
Far as the rest of this goes, “cool LS rewards” is pretty subjective. There are quite a few things introduced in this patch that are new, including a back item like other patches. However, the back item can be completed by doing the content, rather than completing the meta-achievement. It’s just a different way to get the same kind of reward. Whether or not it’s better or worse is somewhat subjective too, far as work put in vs. rewards. There seems to also be different tiers of that back item, as well.

Probably because many players complained that they keep getting back pieces but could only use 1 at a time. Unlike pvp where skins can be stored, in pve extra backs just take up more space. So they gave us the material instead and crafting the back is optional.

I hate the fact we cn’t use the backpack in PvP. Farmed 2 hours for nothing.

It would be nice if people would stop posting this as this is the most obvious marketing lie that arenanet has stated in the history of GW2.
Firstly it would implie that the gamedesigners working on that were completely imcapable to do their job and had no clue how long it would take to get exotics.
And secondly they explicitely stated before launch that they wanted people to have best in slot gear upon hitting level 80. That is a statement that is completely opposite of that, so the best explanation is that there was a change in the direction they wanted the game to go, but they tried to hide that behind that statement,

With the end result that the materials take up 3 times the space…
