Why did Scarlet even test the marionette to begin with?

We’ll probably never know because everyone demanded that we drop the Scarlet story arc.

It was a prototype of the assault knights.

Then why would she need to make it that big and with a completely different attack style?

Personally I think it was missdirection… I think she was actually testing was the huge drilling ship, and using the marionette both to protect it while it was being tested, and as a distraction making us focus on it instead of on the drill.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

The test was for the aether blast at the end, I suspect. That way she could simply have killed everyone in lions arch with one swift blast and mined without disturbance.

The miasma gas was a sort of cheap and nasty replacement for that that required a lot more manpower to set up and which was much less effective.

Her entire focus was the drilling, so any weapon was intended to prevent threats and disturbances to that.

Why did Scarlet do any of the things she did? Most of them had somewhat reasonable reasons, but the closer to the end the less sense they make.

Thaumanova, to learn about Ley Lines, ok.
Molten Alliance, to make tech to track Lay Lines, cool.
The Aetherblades, for skyships, maybe, and portal technology I guess, to get around, ok.
Attack the Queen’s Jubilee, to get a bunch of robots, cause robots I guess.
Barricade herself in the arena, no idea.
Murder a Council member, so no one would notice her planting a probe in the bay?
The Toxic Alliance, to make poison gas, cause why not poison gas?
The Marionette, to test out her giant flying drills ability to fly upside down, and to make even bigger, less autonomous robots, oh and super death lasers.
Attack on Lion’s Arch, using poisonous gas in the coast where wind is a realistic problem, instead of super death lasers to just murder everyone instantly. No idea.

As chrono said the purpose of the marionette was to test and improve the aether cannon (fairly certain a NPC said this, but I forget who). The green version of the aether cannon (seen in Battle for LA patch) had a noticeably faster firing rate than the normal red version. Though I’m not sure why they were even using the red version at all during the Escape from LA patch, especially considering the cutscene used the improved version.

Thaumanova: Ley Lines.
Molten Alliance: Drilling Tech + Manpower.
The Aetherblades: Travel Tech + Manpower
Attack the Queen’s Jubilee: Watchknights, Horrors.
Barricade herself in the arena: I wouldn’t count this one as more than a distraction.
Murder of Theo Ashford: Failed to plant one of her minions into the Council.
The Toxic Alliance: Miasma + Manpower
The Marionette: Improvement of AetherCannons + Stress test + Distraction.
Attack on Lion’s Arch: Drilling.

FTFY.

The assumption could be that the Marionette was supposed to be a weapon to fight a dragon with.

And then she wanted to wake up Mordremoth and kill it, “freeing” the Sylvari in the process.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

I’ll go with that, great summary.

Since the writing, poor as it was, is about 1000 times better than most storylines DC and Marvel can put out, the LS hasn’t been all that bad.
