With the destruction of LA the new hub will be moved to Gendarran Fields at Vigil Keep.

While this is nice, I think Anet could have done better.

The new hub should have been at Labyrinthine Cliffs. Think about it. The map is currently not in use and is a relatively peaceful map that could make a great home as a temporary (or even permanent) city while LA is being destroyed. All of the asura portals, merchants, and even NPCs could be moved there.

Of course the Zephyrite Sanctum at the top could be removed, but I think there would not even have to be that much work done to add/delete these things.

It would tie in with the LS as well since LA did establish a trade agreement there.

What do you guys think?

I would love to see that beautiful map be used again and this is a great solution to two problems.

That wouldn’t be an evacuation. That would be a giant pilgrimage that would take months. And with (presumably) no materials or provisions.

Neat idea otherwise, though. I’d always welcome new maps…

I’m pretty sure the Zephyrites wouldn’t want to become a refugee camp, or an attractant for the armies that attacked LA. The Cliffs are their turf even if they fly away from it on their trade loops.

I’m hoping that a lot more of Vigil Keep will be opened up, on the map it’s a tremendous complex but we can only get at one corner and edge of it.

Since it’s been revitalized, and is currently being cleared (in story – we don’t see this in areas yet, as those are historically placed before and during the invasion), the best choice would likely be the city of Arah.

Alternatively you could probably evacuate everyone to Hall of Monuments.

The people of Ebonhawke are pretty racist. Putting more refugees there will make them even more racist.

Maybe in the future but doesn’t make sense at first. Labyrinthine cliffs are far away from Lion’s Arch, would be a big issue moving everything there, not to mention that the only safe way to get there is by boat, the vigil keep is very close and you can get there by land, plus, unless the map is heavily revamped, it’s impossible to fully navigate it without using the crystals, that suposedly the zephyrites took with them when they left.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

It should have been in one of the major cities, I don’t care which. I mean, that’s what they are made for!

The people of Ebonhawke are pretty racist.

I think they are only racist towards Charr, which is pretty understandable considering what they have been through.

Ebonhawk would be a bad idea. The city is link to Divinity Reach with its Asura Gate, not to Lion Arch. So all the refuges will need to get through the gate to Divinity Reach first and remember that the Government of Lion Arch is not the same as the one in Divinity Reach, meaning that they will need to negotiate something between them. By the time they do that, most refuge will be out of Lion Arch and no longer have access to the Asura Gate to Divinity Reach. Also Ebonhawk is a big problem between Human and Charr. If a bunch of Human would be transferred to Ebonhawk, this could lead to a potential political incident. Now you can say, refuges of Lion Arch are from all race not only human. But the Ruler of Lion Arch is an Human and the Captiain Council have 4 Human, while the Char have 1. The city may be for all race, but its more human that anything else.

Also the Vigil Keep is at walking distance from Lion Arch. Easy to reach for refuges.

Vigil Keep makes perfect sense in that one of the main tenets of the Vigil is to support the weak and displaced-
That said, I think it should be temporary- it would be interesting if there is no city hub- it could make for interesting politics and will give more weight to the main cities.

One person mentioned Southsun Cove and I have to agree. It’s close, has “pirate paradise” written all over it, already has several wrecked ships that can be retooled into buildings like Lion’s Arch is and even has its own jumping puzzles. The only problem is the karka. I personally would love to see a living story patch where players decide to exterminate, relocate or domesticate them.

I thought the same thing. I mean SS Cove is under the jurisdiction of LA already. It is a quick portal away (or boat ride) and could make an excellent city if Karka are contained somehow. I mean it was setup for refugees once already, why are LA refugees any better than Shiverpeak or Ascalonian refugees?

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Vigil keep makes the most sense lore and gameplay wise.

How, in either sense? It is a military keep, and while they may be able to support some refugee population outside the walls, it is in no way adequate to assume the role of a major player hub and trade center.

Gameplay? Go look how big it is, and get back to me. Unless the plan to put all of this in Gendarran zone/external keep.

It makes no sense at all. It is just “convenient”.

Incorporate player housing into that and it would be amazing. I like the idea of a domestic karka

Yeah, I just went and looked at the keep and there’s a lot more to that building than we we have been inside of, there’s also a lot more of the building than we see from the front going by how far it extends into the hills on the map. All it will take is opening a new door to the other areas of the keep and you’ve got a nice new big interior space for all your hub needs.

It makes perfect sense and is in fact quite convenient.

I would jab out my own eyes before using Southsun as a hub. The Southsun zone like Orr are designed to make the simple act of character movement tedious and incredibly annoying under the excuse of being ‘challenging’. Any hub would have to break this design, in which case I could then see using it as a hub. My suggestion would be another asura reactor explosion that killed every wretched mob on the island.

It’s possible they would, actually. They’re already going to have to instance the present Lion’s Arch for the personal story.

For the meanwhile everyone’s going to the Vigil Keep because it’s accessible by land and it’s close. They could, in theory, travel via gate to Fort Trinity, and from there start to clear/rebuild Arah.

Not sure if something as big as that would even be neccesary. At least in theory, the karka on Southsun Cove should be on retreat ever since their queen was killed and the settlements have been cleansed of the whatever essence it was that Canach had spread there.

Next to lions arch were the old D’Alessio seaboard was in gw1 not sure what its used for in gw2, but why cant that be the new hub area ,maybe a multicutural city, with the old lions arch area used for big living story events and seasonal events i.e halloween/christmas etc as that area could be instanced then and would alleviate lag for those wanting to just hang around the hub.

Vigil keep makes sense in the short run, but not in the long run. That’s why I think they need to rebuild Lion’s Arch.

However, it doesn’t really matter where the actual GATE hub is, as long as it connects to each major city. So, what if one day all the gates suddenly redirected to a certain floating castle?

[Edit] Also, aren’t Karka supposed to be intelligent? Alien, and very much so, but intelligent? Talk of exterminating them or “domesticating” them is a bit unsettling.

A lot of people are forgetting a big detail here: the replacement for Lion’s Arch has to be in a low level zone because it’s one of the first places new characters will be visiting at the beginning of the game. You can’t put it in place like Orr or Southsun Cove where a level 15 character is going to get massacred if they try to visit.

Just asking. Do we actually know the effective level of the attacked lion’s arch ? Will all the characters scaled to lvl 80 or will the mobs be level 30ish ?

Well it’s the best according to proximity. There are no other large towns nearby. It also makes sense lore wise considering that the vigil is a military force and can help police and maintain order from all the displaced refugees. I doubt the Norn would be happy with all these criminals or ex-pirates invading their hometown.

And yes, Vigil’s keep is too small. But like any refugee camp, they don’t necessarily occupy the building – they occupy the land around it.

Expect the area around Vigil’s keep to truly look like a refugee camp. They could have makeshift crafting spots and vendors selling their wares. They can put all the misplaced NPC’s all around “BY OGDEN’S HAMMER, WHERES MY SAVINGS?!” while keeping all the portals inside the keep.
