She added nothing to the story, she did nothing in the battle for LA or the extended version of battle for LA we currently play.

Why is she there? Will she play a greater role in the future?

Apart from being a token Asura and being “cute” she doesn’t seem to do anything. Have I missed something?

She’s there to be important in season 2 and so we don’t keep asking “if she’s so obsessed with Scarlet why didn’t we see her in season 1?”

Sometimes you establish a character and they become important later. And given a certain looming danger now hanging over Rata Sum it’s probably good to have an established Asuran character for the biconics already in place.

Though she may also have a part to play in the epilogue as well.

It’s called a three act story: act one is exposition where everything is introduced, characters are established, etc; act two is rising action where important events happen, plots are twisted, etc; act three is resolution where, well, everything is resolved.

The first act of Taimi’s story just so happens to take place during Scarlet’s second and third.

I think you might have missed something. There is a story to Taimi, explained in game, about who she is and why she is hanging around you and everyone else. From what I remember, she had an unhealthy fascination with Scarlet being a god-mode genius and kinda idolized her. Braham and the others basically benched her to keep her away from Scarlet for her own good. If you talked to her after beating Scarlet…well, have you ever talked to her? Or gone into the edge of the mists? There’s a lot of story that you might have missed already but it was there.

This is all to say, you can and should interact with characters outside of cutscenes when possible as the story unfolds all around you.

Yeah, and she already learned that the hard way when she blindly ran into Scarlet’s portal to the EotM and couldn’t go anywhere because Scruffy was broken and the parts she needed to repair him were near the Aetherblades who would love to kill her because that’s what they do.

+ the Miasma in Escape (Still there, but not as badly in Battle for LA)

And this time the lionguard and vigil are all over and neither group would let her close to Lion’s Arch.

She learned she can’t charge into battle or warzones in Edge of the Mists. She learned just how bad Scarlet was by talking to the Refugees. In future adventures, we hopefully will see more of her.

Now, I’ll admit they perhaps could’ve done an instance of the Lionguard, orders, B-iconics, and Captains council planning out the counter attack, and Taimi could’ve jumped in with Vorpp and figure out the teleporters and such… but that’s all outside of LA.

Personally I think its just so they can have a kid character to give attention to so people can get more attached to characters from LS.

or it was just because they wanted to throw in a somewhat crazy child to get attention like the one everyone seemed to like from Borderlands 2 (though I found her more annoying than anything – the borderlands one)

Tiny Tina was more liked due to her ridiculous behavior and crazy tendencies. It helps that Ashly Burch voiced her perfectly too. But when you dive into her personal background a bit, you realize it’s actually kinda tragic.

Taimi isn’t really crazy or anything. She seems like a (normal in a sense) Asura who thirsts for knowledge and has a science-y like intrigue. In a way, it makes her similar to Scarlet.

How DARE you get sci-fi in my fantasy! They cannot coexist. Magic and technology are anathema! Look at Star Wars, it was a complete failure with it’s cyber swords, hokey mind magics and blaster guns. /now that’s sarcasm

For your information, the Human race on Tyria is from another planet. They are straight up aliens, and as such so are all the other races of Tyria to them. What’s more Sci-fi than that? All Asuran technology is based on magic, not physics. What’s more fantasy than that? Sorry that it bugs you, but these things can easily go hand in hand, it doesn’t have to be one thing or the other.

Fun fact: We’re still in the realm of fantasy. All technology in GW2 is fueled by magic, plain and simple. The exception being the rather crude charr technology, it is leaps and bounds inferior to that of magitech (Asuran tech).

If anything, the blending of magic and technology in GW2 makes far more sense. You’d have to be a complete idiot to not blend those two if they exist in the same world.

Also, the Human race is an alien species to Tyria, as are their gods and this has been known since GW1. Think about that.

The problem here is it does not match your small little box of what qualifies as fantasy.

Taimi was fighting at the Marionette before others (like Logan and the B-iconics) realized it.
Afterwards, Logan seemed pretty angry that a child was in a war zone like that, and even ended up confronting Braham over it (because that was the first of the B-iconics he ran into.)
After that, I’d guess that everyone realized just how young she was and, despite how much she probably wanted to run into Lions Arch with her golem, nobody was letting her.
In other words, things have happened the way they did for a reason.

No Asura is token. They are all useful in the great laboratory of the Eternal Alchemy.

Taimi was introduced a bit late into proceedings for me. I don’t have as much a connection with her as I do with the others. I’d imagine they’ll use her more in the next arc.

I love Taimi for so many reasons. She and Braham really show the differences between Asura and Norn, where-as no other part of gw2 I’ve experienced really delved into that much. I admireTaimi’s curiousity, even though it’s dangerous, but honestly Scarlet does have qualities to admire, especially from someone who has to rely on brain over brawl. I also enjoy how she gets protected by everyone, she’s still a child, and the way she deals with it. I like how she feels she needs to experience the outside world to learn and improve rather than sitting in labs, no matter how amazing your teacher is.

But most of all I adore how she works for the things she wants. She wants to get around, she builds Scruffy. She wants to meet her hero, she tries to do so. She wants information, she goes around and asks. She’s not waiting for the world to come to her, she’s doing just fine on her own.

If she doesn’t exist for any story in the game, can she just exist since she brightens up my day?

That and surely her time will come in upcoming living stories.

She was the dues ex explains-the-ley-lines figure needed to explain Scarlet’s goals.

She’s not partaking in Battle for Lion’s Arch because, well, she’s a kid. To those who said that she partook in Marionette – that was because no one was preventing her (she ran away from the authorities technically). She’s since latched onto Braham as a big brother figure and Braham told her to stay in the camp, so she stayed – as Braham explained in Escape from LA if you bothered to talk to him while in LA.

Besides, on that already weakened and small body, she wouldn’t last long against the miasma – which wasn’t prevalent with the marionette or Edge of the Mists stuff.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
