Without a doubt, but it may be a while before it looks pretty again. I made a post in another thread about my hopes for Lion’s Arch though.

[Edit]: Here’s the post in question.

I’d like for Lion’s Arch to return better than it was before, perhaps as a result of the Captain’s Council disbanding and reforming as a Senate to rule Lion’s Arch, and the Council itself being replaced by one comprised of the leaders of the major nations of Tyria. With influence in the city greater than before, the five nations send supplies, workers, and so forth to rebuild Lion’s Arch better than before.

You see human influence in the construction of its buildings and stonework. You see Sylvari influence in the growth of trees and a small park acting as a, ‘Sylvari District,’ all of which cleanse away the lingering effects of the Miasma. Charr influence comes in its fortress, with new siege weapons, acting as the Black Citadel Embassy. Asura influence comes in with the Asura Gate hub, of course, with a research district housing a representative of the Arcane Council, devoted to studying Scarlet’s work and whatever else they find. Lastly, Norn Influence comes in the form of monuments and a district that functions for social gatherings, parties, games, and activities.

Make Lion’s Arch everyone’s city, a melting pot, but one that looks better than shipwrecked, rotting wood and ancient crumbling stone. Also, for the love of all that is holy, do NOT put the Trading Post and Bank further apart than what we have in Divinity’s Reach. Keep the crafting stations and Mystic Forge really close there as well. Ideally you’d have a circle of 10 buildings around the Mystic Forge, 8 of them for crafts, 1 for the bank, 1 for the trading post.

I hope not. Otherwise what was the point of the living story, if nothing was affected? No one we knew died, the town that got attacked was just rebuilt, there was no consequence for a years worth of story if at the end of it all that great big reset button gets pressed and everything goes back to how it was.

I hope they leave Lion’s Arch ruined and rename it the ruins of lion’s arch instead.

You could see it that way, but personally, I can’t see Lion’s Arch not being rebuilt. I doubt it’ll be over night, in fact, it could take months of minor Living Story side content. Also, yes, some people from Lion’s Arch died. I believe an Asuran child known as, ‘Prune Face,’ is one of the casualties. She was just a generic, ‘Prodigy,’ NPC, but one of her dialogues with another child resulted in her being called, ‘Prune Face,’ which is why players remember her as that.

Exactly this. Better yet if they somewhat specialize them in a “soft” way. Like having the Polymock Arena in Rata Sum active, while in Divinity’s Reach you can re-watch any previous cutscene and story instance.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

I think Lion’s Arch served its due in Guild Wars 2. I’d say it will become an questing/exploration locale with a memorial significance not befouled by any hub amenities. Maybe the giant drill will open up a tunnel that leads to another continent across the world.

I think we will see a full-on expansion following the Spring-2014 tournament (possibly first paid sequel add on, possibly a standalone in itself (refer to GW1) etc. etc.).

With two major (but IMO inferior to GW2) western MMOs being launched Spring & early Summer, Arenanet would not be the company I believe them to be if they propose that we continue to flock around the Traders Forum.

In the real world, towns and cities have been rebuilt after suffering major devastation, caused by wars, weather, or geological events. So it wouldn’t be unreasonable for LA to “rise from the ashes” in due course.

Surely with Asura know-how, helped by a bit of magic here and there, a new, (but probably different-looking) LA could once again become a thriving city?

No one’s arguing if it’s possible or not, but whether there is a point in doing so. Even strategically it is a bad idea. This city was attacked several times and destroyed twice by some force, which means it is an easy target.
I would be ok with it being rebuild into some kind of fortress against the dragons like Fort Trinity, but not for trade purposes (kamadan 2? no thx).

I hope it lies in ruins for a bit, giving us new objectives for clean-up and rebuild. Then it is “rebuilt” but differently. It’s no longer a pirate/captain’s haven. It’s a Tyrian monument to cooperation and triumph. It should become a unified city with real buildings and not propped up ships. The results of working together (as seen from The Pact’s accomplishments in Orr) along with a new danger on the horizon, should be all the necessary motivation for joining forces to create a unified stronghold.

That’s what I’d like to see.

I think it comes down to the end cinematic’s result. There was a huge explosion after the ley line was breached. Now was this simply an explosion of light and relatively harmless, or was this an explosion with true force? It didn’t show the city at all (just the horizon) so which was it. If it had force then most of the city should be in complete ruin (much more than it is now) and thus it may become less hospitable.

Plus, even though it was Mordromoth that awoke, with a big hole in the ground it is very possible they could make this city become overrun by a constant barrage of destroyers from underground. Personally this is what I’m hoping for.

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

As others have said, it would be stupid for us to retake LA and drive scarlet and her forces out if we were just going to leave it a ruin. Especially since it is a prime area for a city and a strategic/convenient port area. Why would any society want to lose a central hub like that.

That being said, I hope it is rebuilt over time and not just instantly full and repaired. I hope that happens over time like when the Lion Statue was rebuilt. Only with LA it is an entire city so it should take much longer.

The Lion Statue took too long in my opinion, but it was a minor thing so I was willing to accept it. Personally I’m hoping that, story-wise, the leaders of the 5 other Nations will help rebuild Lion’s Arch in returned for increased influence in the city’s politics and such. The Captain’s Council failed to protect the city, to heed the warnings, so I think its only right that the people of Lion’s Arch want new leadership, though by the same token, I don’t think we’d just see the Captain’s Council disappear either. No doubt it would remain in some kind of political position, but still.

If the five nations all contribute to the reconstruction, it can go down much more swiftly.

It is likely that Modremoth and minions will center around Magus Falls with maybe some spillover close to Rata Sum. So if anything it’s highly unlikely that Lion’s Arch will be a target. Lion’s Arch was only a target because of the ley line intersection.

I agree. The Lion’s Arch we know felt pretty banged up already and you couldn’t sit down anywhere for fear of splinters and rusty nails. So the best thing to do would be to level it and then rebuilding it with new wood instead of scavenging from junk.

They can keep the nautical style, but it should be build to a more pristine condition; not some cobbled together mess from a junkyard.

Just look at the loading screen. That is a Lion’s Arch which keeps to the nautical theme but looks like new!!

I think it would be interesting if they never rebuild it where it is now. It’s quite possible that the land is too damaged. After all, a big kittened monster drill just hit a ley line nexus, and we don’t know all the ramifications of the release of energy yet.

For all we know, the ruins of LA might rise from the harbor and we get the little lion statues back.

In any case, I would be disappointed if they rebuilt it too fast. It’s just not right that you get an update and the city is just there all of a sudden.

I think that LA will come back, but it will be redesigned, and that’s a good thing. LA was a pretty cool place, but people used a tiny fraction of it. Perhaps with a redesign they could make it the player pathing flow a little easier or add some new features like guild halls.

In terms of story, it would be smart if they staggered the rebuilding of LA over a few patches to give the rebuilding a sense of time and I think we might see that happen.

Since ANet proved that the Mystic Toilet can be moved by the people, they should establish a Mystic Toilet in each capitol to help reduce the lag that LA suffered.

Leave everything else in LA (Fractals, Southsun access, Mist Gates, etc.), but give us Mystic Toilets in our home cities. It is the only reason I went to LA in the first place.

From a realistic perspective, there is no good reason to rebuild the city.

The sea-based trade lanes that were the original catalyst for the city’s construction are gone now, so are thousands upon thousands of the people who lived there.

The structures themselves are destroyed or damaged to the point where cleanup and reconstruction would be more expensive than simply starting anew somewhere else.

The city defenses lie in ruin, which means the monsters, creatures, and dragon minions will easily be able to get into the area and overwhelm any reclamation efforts.

In the real world, Lion’s Arch would be abandoned.

Personally I didn’t like the airship and I hope (and suspect) the idea flopped with the playerbase. I visited it once when I got a temporary pass in a drop. Then threw away any passes I got afterward.

As for LA, I would be very surprised if they didn’t rebuild it. I really hope they do. Central to the map. Two nice mid-level zones just north and south of the city. Crafting stations, the mystic toilet, bank and trading post all fairly close to each other (but I hope this is improved even further in next generationLA…LA 2.0 or 3.0?)

But I hope they make LA much more majestic than before. I mean it was basically the main hub in the game. But the most ramshackle. It should be the grandest and most diverse. And one thing this invasion is making all the more obvious. Wood burns. Lots of wood means lots to burn. I’m tired of falling through holes in bridges.

I hope the new LA has much more stone and metal. Like Divinity’s Reach. Now that’s a beautiful city!
