Deal with it.

Complaint #1: “Lions arch was the most convenient place to do anything, and now its gone and i have to pay $12.50 (USD) for the same thing.”

LA was NOT the most convenient place to do business. There were much faster locations for bank – crafting – Trading post services. Lions Arch was just popular. Popular doe not always mean the best. Lets use Justin Beiber as an example.

Complaint #2: “Ermergherd, how could you do this Anet? how could you make us pay real money for stuff. How could you have such a cash grab like this. ermergherd.”

ok, lets not forget people. Video Game development costs money. Arena Net, NCsoft and any other studio / publisher on the planet are a business.
I like to think that ArenaNet prefer to do cool things rather than cashgrab. But the world of business does not agree with my feelings.
you CAN NOT blame ArenaNet for trying to make money. its YOUR choice to buy into these things. nobody is forcing you.

Complaint #3: “what? now i have nowhere to do my craafting!”

Every main city, and even a lot of explorable areas have crafting stations.

Claypool in Queensdale has a full set of crafting stations.

Ebonhawke in Fields Of Ruin has literally everything, and its all MUCH closer together than it was in lions arch.

what if you don’t need crafting? In mount malestrom, in Soobetme (just west of the mountain) , at the FireBreak Fort Waypoint, there is a bank and a TP so close together, you can stand between them and right click both of them. not to mention, loading into MM is a LOT faster than loading into LA.

I bought the permanent airship pass. Its an item you have in your inventory and can right click it from anywhere, and it takes you straight to the airship.
This is a lot more convenient than the Royal Terrace. (which i didn’t buy, because i didn’t see the point.)

TLDR. Don’t buy it if you don’t want it. Dont complain. You have nothing to complain about.

Do I think that the decision to remove certain critical services from the relocated Lions Arch Gate Hub / Refugee Camp at Vigil Keep, while simultaneously offering a new Exclusive Area with full services, and costing real money or a lot of in game gold, is a rotten business tactic? Yes, I do.! Do I think the company that provides the game has a right to make money, Of Course. But they should not resort to chicken-kitten practices to do so.

If crafting Stations were in the Keep this would be a non-issue for me, from a Customer Respect viewpoint. The Captains Airship area would then be only another nice convenience and teleport tool. Having looked at the Airship with the free pass drop, I still prefer the Royal Terrace Pass I have on my main, since it is close to a Home Instance for mining the nodes etc., and then slipping out to Queensdale to get a few champs.

But it is Still a non-issue for all my other alts, if you just know your way around. If you are on a server with always Q’ed WvW borderlands, well then this information is no good to you. Sorry. The technique described below works for the Edge of the Mists too. But the services are almost nil at EoM spawn.

1) Press ‘B’

2) Select enter your Home server Borderland. You will be transported to the spawn point in the Citadel.

3) The crafting stations are to the East.
Remember every crafting station also functions as a personal bank access.
The Guild Registrar may also be used to access you personal vault. Use the drop down list above the left hand display to select your vault, and open your inventory with the ‘I’ key.
Many other services are all around. The unique Discount Laurels + Badges of Honor Vendor is with the other special vendors to the south. You are in a completely safe area so people who PvE only need not be concerned. The only thing missing that you may want to use regularly is a Mystic Forge.
If you own your Garrison and it has an uncontested waypoint, it is probably safe to go there and use that Mystic Forge, but there is a small chance a hidden enemy (Thief or Mesmer) might attack you. I have never seen or heard of this, but it is possible. Overall, Services are a bit more spread out, but its Free.

4) After completing your business select the ‘Crossed Swords’ Icon from the row in the top left. Select the button below the picture in the top left to ‘Enter the Mists’. You will be taken to the PvP lobby, another completely safe area.
[If you have never opened the Lobby you will have to do a completely safe and brief tutorial, one time only per account.]
Immediately select the crossed Swords again, and select the ‘Exit the Mists’ button below the picture in the upper left. Return to the EXACT place in the open world you left from. This works anywhere in Open World PvE (inside the Cities too of course) and costs NOTHING.
If you do this from inside any instanced content you will land at the entrance to that instance. Don’t do it in a dungeon, for example.

OR

4a) Finish business.
Log out to Character select.
Log back in.
Return to the Exact Place you were standing in open PvE when you went to the Citadel, as in 4.

Loading times are pretty similar to using an Elite Pass, at least for me. Which technique you use to return to Open World will depend on your loading times.

This procedure can also be a real blessing when roaming in PvE (can you say Map Completion?) and faced with full bags. etc.

There is one thing any other major city doesn’t have: A mystic forge.
Soo all your arguments are invalid. due to having ALL services in a single town, it was the most convinient place.

WvW shouldn’t be used as an alternative with all the queues. Even if it is queu less you would risk taking someone elses his place. For all I care the crafting stüations are removed from WvW and placed in gendarran fields instead. Crafting doesn’t belong in WvW, if you want to craft you go to a town!

Wouldnt this be considered griefing? If you are joining WvW, when there is a queue, and in now way will participate at all then you are purposely screwing over your server.

Nice to see that pro-Anet toxicity is unmoderated.

Yeah, community standards.

As opposed to the endless torrent of raging anti-Anet vitriol, bile and venom that gets spewed ad infinitum and ad nauseum…

Yeah, promoting that double standard.

Not really. I’ve never seen, yet, a complaint that told everyone that “liked” something to uninstall and go play another game. Legit or not, it is one thing to comment on game, gameplay and features, and something quite different to generally attack people who make those complaints.

On the whole I see more personal attacks upon “complainers” than I see personal attacks on people who like things.

Basically its “I don’t like this” responded to with “you are a horrid person, go away”

No, but I have seen people who ‘comment on game, gameplay and features’ in vehemently negative fashion also name-call, deride, belittle and insult anyone that has an opposing view, either blatantly or through thinly veiled jabs.

People want to sling mud, (and that /usually/ starts from the negative side of things) but then get righteously indignant when people, who are sick and tired of getting insults thrown at them, start slinging it back.

Lets face it. There are people who seem to devote their lives to bashing this game endlessly here. (To be fair, every game out there has those kind of people…)
/Nothing/ Anet does is good.
/Every/ part of this game is an anathema to them. And they make sure that /everyone/ knows how eternally ‘disappointed’ they are with things in as vehemently a way as possible.
Those are the ones that I have to ask ‘Why are they still here?’

“If half as many people were half as brave in real life as they were online…
… The human race would never have to worry about be oppressed again.”
I think trolls should have their computers smashed. ’Its all part of the game. U mad bro?’

All well and good. The problem is when you need to do this without leaving the zone. IE, you and your guild are getting ready for a coordinated run on LA and you need to switch traits, or craft some stat food, or what have you. Zoning to EoM to do all that is fine, but when you come back you’ll probably be in another overflow with the original one you were just in hard-capped, at which point it’s a matter of dumb luck that you’ll get inside LA in time to join your party before that one is hard-capped too.

Sure, not having the crafting stations or trait reset NPCs is a minor issue, but until A-Net fixes their kitten-poor overflow mechanics, it’s a wholly preventable issue that should have been put in there in the first place while all of LA’s services are moved. Once the event is done and LA is opened back up, sure, leave the airship and all its goodies where it is, but as long as the attack is running, if Vigil Keep is supposed to be the temporary replacement for LA, then they need to not half-kitten it.

At the end of the day this argument literally boils down to convenience. You can still get every service you could in LA, they just aren’t all together anymore, and for all we know temporarily so. You can loot airship passes from the event drops, you can buy the passes, whatever, you can use wvw or vigils keep for the mystic forge for free you can use one of the MANY places with crafting stations in it for free. You’ll have to waypoint every now and then if you decide to switch from forging to crafting and vice versa. It’s inconvenient and it’s annoying but it’s far from a pay to win standpoint. And no I can’t blame anet for wanting to make money, but I also can’t blame the side eying, maybe it’ll turn out to be purely temporary, but demonizing anet over rather normal business tactics is stretching it a tad.

every tiny change is subtle but the end result is bad for the consumer (the gamer). Its the same for eso, as in you got a buy to play, then a pay to play, then a cash shop, and then an imperial class exclusive for an extra $20. Or when CoD just reprints the same game with new maps.

I like everyones opinion on here. It makes me happy to see that were talking about this in a way thats constructive.

My intent with this post was not to defend A-net for kittenty marketing decisions. There are plenty of other ways to make money rather than easy grabs like this.
i AM infact defending their right to try to make money.

Could the game do without the terrace and the airship? Absolutely.
Am i personally offended that this is in the game? Hell no.

Bottom line is, Its not negatively impacting the game as a whole. Its a shallow convenience to the players.

To single a few points out though.

- the lack of a mystic forge in every city. Yes, i forgot about this. Its silly to me that the MF was only in LA. But it has lore associated with the reasoning behind its location. So its not that big of a deal. the vigil and the airship and the terrace AND WvW all have a forge, as well as Heart Of The Mists. (HOTM has no bank, which is stupid as kitten IMO)

- me saying “Deal with it.” Poor word choice on my part. Uncool. This isn’t league of legends, were civilised here in the shire.
I apologise for that.
I stand behind what i meant by it though. It was more a bit of flavor text to set a tone. (probably a bad decision)
I simply want people to not be upset over the airship thing.

I thought the lack of a hub with ALL services including crafting stations in one location with convenient gate access wasn’t going to bother me.

It turns out it does. My teeth were already set on edge after repeatedly wasting time on the bugged Scarlet end boss, I don’t need yet more inconvenience however minor. Badly judged move ArenaNet. Vigil Keep should have had crafting stations.
