But what if she did?

Scarlet. Putting the “Wyld” in Wyld Hunts since a minute ago.
Even if Scarlet got a Wyld Hunt, I don’t think she would follow it. Or at the very least, she wouldn’t admit she is following it.
“Sapling?” Serimon said. “I’m here to help you acclimate. To help you understand your place in this world and identify the purpose Pale Mother has given you.”
Her eyes remained fixed on on the complex living dance of the forest. “I’ll find my own place, thank you very much. And it’s hardly ‘my’ purpose if someone else gives it to me.”
Serimon’s face soured, but he kept his soothing tone. “You’ve awakened with a wealth of confidence,” he said. “But don’t presume too much. We all make choices in life, but sometimes choices are made for us. Especially we children of the Pale Tree. It is the way of things.”
“The way of things?” Ceara smiled. Serimon’s world was so clearly defined for him. He would never challenge it, never test it, never seek to redefine it.
She laughed merrily and said, “Thank you for attending my awakening, mender. But where my life is concerned, I will be the one who chooses.”

All sylvari get a purpose in the dream, not all are called a Wyld Hunt. A Wyld Hunt refers to some greater purpose but those who are cooks or blacksmiths still have a vision of those things within the dream.
Scarlet doesn’t want to follow her purpose, whatever that is.

I think I see what the OP is saying, and it might make sense.
What Scarlet saw in the box was “only what she took in with her”. What if she had something she was supposed to do, and the box basically amplified that to a mind-shattering level? What if there is some evil … something … under Lion’s Arch or connected to the ley lines that she’s supposed to deal with? Most of her life she ignored that call, but the box turned it into the inescapable voice in her head that drives her forward and into insanity?
What if the voice in her head isn’t a dragon, but instead it’s what she was supposed to do when she was born? Maybe the Pale Tree warned her away not because she was about to be corrupted, but because she was about to lose her hard won freedom from the Tree? It would explain why the Pale Tree never did anything to stop her from leaving, but did try to stop her from seeing too much within the box. She was willing to let her go and be herself, just as she allows the Soundless to break free, and now in an act of free rebellion she’s enslaved herself to the very fate she was so set on rejecting.
It would make for an interesting twist on the character.
Also, yes, there’s this:
Now do you see? The Pale Tree’s voice was faint and distant, but it snapped Ceara back to viewing the tree from a distance. If you are not one with what you were born to be, you are lost. Worse, you are dangerous.
But what if what she was born to be isn’t the same as the purpose she was given before her birth? The Pale Tree doesn’t seem to consider the Soundless a threat, even though they’ve cut themselves off from the Dream. Maybe the Tree considers what you were born to be and what you were born to do as two separate things?
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Or perhaps the Pale Tree wasn’t referring specifically to the contents of Ceara’s purpose but rather how she come to accept that purpose. From the Sylvari personal story, what I played of it in the beta, and from the short story it seems the Sylvari can choose how and when they come to terms with their calling.
Chaos always finds a way, who you think Evil learned it from?

Luke took his Lightsaber into the cave. That turned out well.
Haha, good call! I was going more for the Dune angle though.

I thought the player’s wyld hunt was essentially the Person Story?

The player’s and, as far as I remember, Caithe’s Wyld hunt is to destroy Zhaitan.
Trahearne’s is to cleanse Orr.
