Abominations + Berserking = BROKEN
only when they scale up, 1vs1 they are pretty easy.
Retired Until Expansion or Meaningful Content is Released.
They get stacks by hitting things. Don’t get hit=he gets no stacks to move/attack fast with.
not letting it get stacks is the only counter for it which is BS IMO. Blinds rarely work, they can’t be crippled, immobilized, knocked down, throw all this on a veteran one or gods forbid a champ and its downright ridiculous. If there was a way to strip it then it wouldn’t be so bad. maybe have a mechanic similar to defiance.

~I could promise you the same…but it would be a lie…
They are only really annoying when they have lots of npcs (or stupid pubbies) to beat on. I watched a zerg get demolished by the champ abom a little while ago and it was hilarious.
The key to these mobs is never to let them hit anyone. They won’t stack frenzy and will be slow and easy to kite. I would advise melee to try a ranged weapon on these mobs unless you are really proficient at dodging.
1v1 they are easycakes, even as melee
1 v zerg they become a wipefest
Chill, immob, daze, stun, get space between you and him, repeat (I’m talking about the one in CoE path2)
Thing is, NPC always get hit by it. Then he stacks insane amount of berserk. You basically can’t out run, out dodge or overpower stacked abominations.
TO OP: It seems you did not prolly learn yet how easy it is. Abo can be stunned and once it’s stunned all stacks of frenzy dissappear. Problem is that the most of the players do not use brain for defeating any encounter but only way they are able to use is a way of damage. I stopped ressing people at Claw of Jormag event because they did not learn a thing. You can provide advice every event but nothing is changed next event. And because the life in gw2 is worth of nothing due downed state, people are not forced to learn. That’s sad fact.

Chill is the only thing that works on that one, you can’t stun him, daze him, (I was actually able to immobilize him once by a fluke, still not sure how it happened because the next time I tried the same thing and it didn’t work and I gave up after 4 tries, and no he had no more defiant stacks on), and that’s the one I always think about when I think OP aboms. You’re fighting just him after a quick cleanup of the trash and it’s still a ridiculous fight. If you run out of chill or someone has no energy to dodge, it’s game over. Lots of parts of that dungeon though is way overtuned, so hopefully soon they rework it.

I don’t think most of us are talking about the random trash mob abominations, but the champ ones where stunning is not an option most of the time due to defiance. Don’t go assuming you know the playing skill of all these people because you “have things all figured out”.

Stun and daze only work for 1/10 of a second it’s true but, it’s more than enough if you time it when he’s about to hit a player. As a thief I usually like time my pistols’ 4th skill. Stops it from building up speed that quick.
Honestly, I’ve done that dungeon so many times (I wanted the dungeon skin armor and weapons) that I have no problems with any of the stuff in there. And while most of the time at least 1 other party member was a regular in my CoE group, the rest were all PuGs, and we never really had a problem with that abomination.
Tl:Dr. I think, that encounter works as intended, and imho it’s perfectly doable with pugs.
EDIT: I can’t say the same thing for other abominations in the world because I can hardly remember any, in fact I can’t say I’ve encountered many (maybe a few veterans in Orr?)

Thief Basilisk Venom works through defiant and since a stun = loss of stacks, it’s also a mean to reset their frenzy to 0.
I was under the impression that most undead abominations had the “Unstoppable” keyword, that made them immune to most CC. Not even in the Defiant blocking sense, but just completely immune.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.
You dont even have to dodge. In its normal state, you can WALK away from an abominations attack
