Teq spawned a little while ago on my server, i figured id go down as im still to beat it, and there was NO ONE there at all, i couldn’t believe it, is Anet monitoring this “world” event at all, as no one in the world was at it.

I know I haven’t even bothered to go check on my server.

If you want to do it, I recommend you get into a guild that specializes in this. You will have to guest to another server probably.

No

The ball’s in Anet corner to atleast bring it down to the DPS required to kill Karka Queen
(Which is actually a lot MORE rewarding ironically and requires better situational awareness and selfless-deeds as well).

There’s several ways they could do this too:

  • Allow Purging & Rezzing efforts made by players on other players (otherwise known as cooperation and community-building) to extend the Timer slightly.
  • Allow condition and crit builds to affect Teq’s HP’s the same way PVT’ers do.
  • SCALE HIS STUPID HITPOINTS TO THE TOTAL POP OF THE SERVER (IoW: Devona’s & Fergusson’s shouldn’t be expected to face the same % TC & JQ do).
  • Allow champions to drop Siege Supply that additional Siege can be built with.

They don’t have to just nerf its HP’s globably…. infact that would cheapen the achievements of everyone who got theirs during “BossWeek”. But they DO have to fix this horribly shortsighted “DPS check” design and make it into an actual repeatable fight where you’re watching what’s happening AROUND YOU instead of all our focus being on the UI and a teamspeak channel….

DPS checks are boring and overused. GET GOOD ANET. Kill the DPS check. Replace it with a “Community Goodwill” check.

Tried Teq 3 times today. The first two were ghost towns and when I logged on the third time it just so happened those Tequatl guild people were filling up overflows for it. Managed to get it done finally. Had to wait an hour for him to finally spawn. My reward was roughly 3g in all. Better to be lucky than good I suppose. Just have to hope you log in at the right moment.

Every time I check my home server’s Sparkfly Fen in advance of the spawn there is fish heads and risen all over and no players around. My server used to down him at least once a night after reset.

The Teq killing guilds are still doing it, but you have to go early to get into the overflow before it fills up. Of course going early means you will coordinate with the other players and then stand around wasting time as you wait for Teq to spawn with the newly increased 65 minute window.

I have to say this event needs a rework. I have been in guested servers to beat this dragon and get all the achievements for it, so really i have no desire to ever attempt this again. Its not that its boring, i love the changes they made to the fight. But this event now requires a zerg to kill and seems to not scale for off peak times. Seems to me you have to kill teq within a couple of hours of reset and then he is pretty much ignored till the next reset.

This is a world event and not a dungeon event. Anet needs to look at this and change this event up. I have spent the last 2 weeks trying Teq out on many different servers. JQ/BG/SoR/SoS just to name a few. Seems the Teq Defeats have occured for me mostly on Overflows. So people seem to having to us a gimmic to get in an overflow with a couple of large organized guilds in order to have a chance to kill Teq. This is not the way a world event should be intended to function. Reminds me of the days of Syncing in GW1 for an unfair advantage. (if you dont know look it up)

I love the fight, it feels epic, and less like a loot pinata but the fact is the event seems almost impossible on low pop servers and to me and many in my guild not worth even trying again till around reset. Is this the path all world events/dragons are headed? If so i fear my favorite MMO maybe headed down a dark and dangerous path of ending up like gw1 did.

Ghost towns in 90% of the game and the other 10% stayed in the most profitable zones, dont make the same mistake you made in your first game!

Again, Love the direction of Teq and can see it making all the events fun, but if the event is this hard to complete maybe it should have been an instanced or guild mission type thing. A Dynamic event that happens every 1-1.5 hours failing over and over, surly Anet has logs of this and this should be a sign the event needs some sort of tweaking.

The event seems like it does not scale anymore, is this true?
So this event takes no less than 80 or so players to beat it?

Also another thing that bugs me and im fully expecting a flame fest for this and i think the Dev was wrong to do this when she streamed, felt to me like it was promotion of players not to work together in an event designed for players to work together!

Why for in a team based game does it seem everyone including Anet wants people to work together to complete a goal but Rezing a fellow Teammate seems to not be common practice. You put the ability to res people when downed in this game. If its not effective to rez people and tell them to simply way point, Why on earth did you put it in the game?

If its not effective, do your job and make it effective instead of throw it off on a way point so you can make the community burn up gold on wp fees.

yeah not to mention you have to camp and wait on teq for an hour just to get in to have a chance to beat him. If all the events end up with changes like this, mine as well call the game Guild Waits 2 instead of Guild Wars 2

Went there again about an hour ago and no one there at all, bone wall up, all turrets gone, 100% health, I am on T1, SoR NA server, so its not like its a small server in regards to numbers,

This is what happens when Anet only listen to a small number of people in regards to an event.

3:30PM EST (or as early as 12:30PM server time) on a business/school day is hardly gaming primetime in North America.

I’ve heard complaints about servers that are empty during primetime, and those are totally fair, but I’d be absolutely shocked if there was a sufficient group doing it at noon/afternoon on Friday. That’s just something that’s bound to happen with events on constant timers, and it doesn’t say anything meaningful about the popularity of the event.

I have attempted it at all times just to let you know. 4pm 5pm 6pm 7pm people start showing up cause reset is around the corner. still bad I find 8pm till midnight then forget till next day until reset… Horrible odds i have had the last 2 weeks :-)

4 hours roughly in a 24 hour period leaves 20 hours for an event to run/fail/run/fail/run fail… get the picture ?

Like I said, people complain about it being abandoned during primetime, and that’s a valid complaint. I’m specifically talking about how it being abandoned during off-hours for a server’s timezone is exactly what I’d expect from timed events with any serious amount of difficult.

It might seem weird for an event to trigger every couple of hours when there aren’t players around for it, but that’s how the dynamic event system works, for better or worse. Some events, like the Megadestroyer, have pre-events that keep them from starting if players aren’t around, but, frankly, I’d rather have Tequatl ravage the coastline on off-hours than to make organizing a Tequatl run even more complicated by adding in a pre-event.

I get that, what im talking about is the difficulty or the amount of people required to defeat it is to high. It dosnt scale for lower groups, ya know that system Anet brags about that the game can be fun for any number of players… Apply that logic to the current teq fight and its an out right Lie!

Most times even in prime time seems no one is doing it on my sever. The 5 times i have killed teq have been on someone else’s server instead of my OWN home server. That in itself shows just how broke it is, i shouldnt have to guest to another server to hit an event, guesting should be optional, NOT a prerequisite just to complete an event!

15-30 mins for the fight itself, an hour or so to organize on voice comms and get into a overflow, so pretty kitten loot for 1h-1.5 hours work. Nice try anet minion.

I see no problem with Teq not being done. The encounter is clearly defined, people know how to beat him and have beaten him. Most importantly, people are beating him (done it twice since patch).

You want a go at his unique drops, organize with others and take him down. Overflow issues are mostly gone as expected so any server that wants to work on and beat the encounter can do so.

However, going there alone with the expectation of a an assembled and prepared force just waiting for you to come to loot is… that is pointless, and that’s what most of you are doing.

The game is fun for any number of players— But that doesn’t mean I should expect to be able to win high-difficulty content with any number of players. Events scale up or down, but that’s not an absolute promise that any group size is going to be able to tackle all the content in the game. For a big event like this, you need to hit critical mass. There was never, ever any meant to be this notion that just because the game scales a bit, it scales all the way down.

I won’t say that Tequatl’s critical mass isn’t too high; frankly, I never have a clear idea how many people are involved in a winning Tequatl run because I’m more of a grunt than a commander. We’ve known since the revision was announced that taking down Tequatl would require 80+ organized, prepared players, and if you throw a handful of players, organized or not, at it, yeah, you’re not going to crack 90% of his health.

Could the critical mass level be too high to attract all but the most dedicated Tequatl killers? Maybe. Maybe that needs adjustment. But he’s only intended to scale down so far, because he was always intended to provide a world boss that isn’t a cakewalk, one that will frequently result in losses. We have so many other world bosses, and other, non-boss content, that can be done with any number of players, that I don’t see an issue with having some variety for those who want a challenge.

The problem is that TQ is not the only event that is not being done. There are many parts of the game that are desolate.

If a majority of the population condenses in a select few areas, that is not good for the game. People burn out, leave and the wealth of content that has been produced over 5 years goes unnoticed.

What we had before, which was people just bouncing from one meta to another, was also not good.

So the question is whether Anet can even create an exciting and active world. If TQ was supposed to be a test, it does not bode well. Without any expansions or sequels in the works, that goes double. -.-

Tequatl was already a massively popular event; one of the most popular world bosses, easily, given his general ease and lack of pre-events. Tequatl Rising definitely wasn’t an attempt to bring life to underpopulated areas.

For comparison, events/additions that actually did drive players into underpopulated areas include Queen’s Jubilee balloons (with champion fights, aetherblade attacks, and escort quests,) Haunted Doors, the Mad Memoires scavenger hunt, the addition of champion chests, dragon bash effigies and holograms, large Zephyr kites , Scarlet’s Invasions (which are ongoing even after Clockwork Chaos,) and pretty much the entirety of Flame and Frost.

There are definitely some areas that are more populous than others, but when you look at the list, there have definitely been releases designed to push people into lower-level zones. It’s not a coincidence or purely for flavor reasons that practically nothing in the Living World happens in Orr, where there are already a lot of high-level players.

I guess not, I was doing behemoth on piken square, a rather active server, nr 3 in wvw I believe. There was plenty of people there zerging him down before the second set of portals.

Someone called out right after he died that teq was spawning shortly so I went there. It was a ghost town and no, it wasn’t an overflow.

Teq is a great new raid that unites whole servers. We had to get our voice-comms community (no offence to people who aren’t on voice) on an overflow when the event was introduced – we failed. Now that it’s deserted of PUGs, there’s a greater chance of us putting occasional Teq raids together, but I see it more as a once-a-month or more occasion.

Nobody at Anet loves WvW like Grouch loved PvP. That’s what we need, a WvW Grouch, but taller.

Since ANet said they expected people to fail this for days to weeks before the first success, then surely they were also expecting this event to be eventually abandoned except by certain guilds on certain servers, just like the karka queen is mostly abandoned. They had only to look at that event to predict the future of this one.

What this means is, to have any hope of doing this event you need to be in the right guild at the right time on the right server and the right overflow and have the right amount of play time to do it. Not everyone is going to meet these requirements. After all, guilds, maps, and overflows are limited in size and can’t take everyone. Not everyone can be on when the guilds are doing it that one time per time period on the guild’s schedule. Not everyone can devote the hour plus time it takes to do this one event on their limited play time.

Now all they need to do is remake Jormag and Shatterer in Tequatl’s image to complete this picture of abandoned events.

I am under the impression that they are just treading water right now and are without focus. There is no way they willingly made this event this way so that it could have this outcome.

They need leadership to step up and provide concrete direction because it feels like the living world teams are just flailing around randomly.

From an interview with ANet:
Q: Tequatl update is nice but it destroys your party, home server due to overcrowded home servers and overflows
A: We are aware of it and actively discussing it.We were hoping originally it would take days/weeks for players to defeat Tequatl instead of 12 hrs.
http://dulfy.net/.../26/gw2-eurogamer-expo-livestream-notes/

Yes, they were expecting people to fail this for days to weeks before the FIRST success anywhere. To me that seems a recipe for a future abandoned event except on select servers with select guilds.

I would like to see this Random Overflow nonsense to stop. How come gw1 had districts and the second one doesn’t? So people can organize, Right now its very hard to get even my own friends into an instance to fight him together. How about Overflow 1 Overflow2 Overflow3.. sort of like gw1 districts are

So people have an actual place to go meet to do this Team event! Right now its random chance you can even get with all your friends with how this overflow system is setup.

Something worth noting about overflows: If you’re in a party with someone on an overflow and you’re both in the same zone, you (or they) can click on a character portrait in the party lineup and choose to join them to be warped to their overflow. If their overflow is full and you can’t get in, you can just reverse the process and have them pile into your overflow.

That’s how guilds can stack all their members in the same overflow: They just have volunteers take party members temporarily to form a sort of shuttle service.

I agree that it’s a lot clunkier than the GW1 district system, although it’s a bit of a hazy comparison, since GW1 didn’t have Worlds like GW2 does. Since GW1 instanced all zones for parties, there wasn’t a need for a traditional Server/World system, which GW2 definitely does need, both for WvW and for persistent, player-independent zones.

Thanks for the tip, i already new this but again ty for attempting to help. Again still i dont understand why we cant have districts we can choose. Feel very random if i can get friends into same instance, guildmembers, etc.

Last night did a teq and within 2 mins the overflow i was in filled up and i had a few of my friends Exit the zone on the same server and manually enter the zone just to get in because they COULDNT join on my name. Why are we having to resort to glitches just to get together in an event?…

I forgot.. game relies on glitches… mabe change it to Glitch Wars ?

Ive done Tequatl every night, including last night at server reset which is my play time.

But I have no more drive to do him anymore, since if you get booted, even if it succeeds, you dont get rewards. And for something that time consuming to organize and then actually succeed, its a slap in the face when you error out do to fault of server side error, have to reboot client, load in to an overflow, load back into group to find out you got nothing for it.

Im not saying a hand out, but if im there and we make it to phase 3 and fail, I still get 3 boxes.

But being there for 3 phases of success, erroring out yields 0 boxes. Thats punishing the wrong people for crime others commited.
