Bah to "Put your pet away!"
While I agree with you that you shouldn’t be griefed on it (I play both a Mesmer and a Ranger), I haven’t had the same issues. To be honest, if those players have a problem, then don’t let a ranger/mesmer into the party.
That said, I’m not sure this should be under the “Dynamic Events” forum.

The elitist hardcore children who are yelling at you to put your pet away just want attention and are trying to appear as if they have a clue. If the pet is a problem, yell at the people you gave money to to fix it.
I hate it when ranger pets buff champion abominations. They don’t even try to dodge and I don’t have enough blinds to protect them. Then the abomination gets frenzy and even when the abomination is chilled and I have perma vigour/swiftness and a good deal of foresight there is nothing I can do to ‘tank’ a frenzied champ.
Worse thing is they are so easy to solo.
a frenzyed champion abomination is easy to tank( onced tanked one with 10 or so stacks) you just kite/run around into the stacks are off,

There are some situations that require yo-yo-ing the pet (jellyfish boss) , or setting it on defence only (when you don’t want aggro) , or not entering the room till the crystals are in place, or putting it away completely (electrified staircase).
Don’t blame the players blaming your pet. Blame who designed the only class where the main mechanic hinders you instead of helping.
I never heard anyone complain about anything in DE, though in dungeons things are different and a loose pet can make a party wipe.
@ Syunfung –
I post this here, because there’s been some very insistent yelling in map chat to put pets away and not use illusions, because ‘their dying causes the pact morale to drop’.
These requests for me to leave are tied to dynamic event failures.
It’s absurd.
It’s provably wrong.
And its aggravating.
My last two runs at opening the Balthazar temple had to face this ignorance. I’d be less grumpy if they would listen to reason, and weren’t expressly asking me to leave.
The game is built to be inclusive, I enjoy it largely because it is inclusive. “Don’t bring your rangers here” is not an inclusive attitude.
@Cenile – I switch to my ranged pet for abominations, and leave them dead if (when) they die. I do hope they update the pet AI to allow the ranged ones to kite some, ranged pets sitting in PBAoE is silly.

To hell with other players telling me to put my pet away, -I- want to put the kitten thing away! It is heartbreakingly annoying that it doesn’t stay stowed once you stow it.
Anet, LOCK PET function please!!
Shadow Refuge can only stealth 5 people. Not including your pet. Sorry rangers. Put your pet away.
For dungeons, outside of combat. I understand no pets. But open world or in combat? I would reply with. "If you didn’t die, munch munch wouldn’t have brought you back to life by putting his groin on your face. " Munch munch is my pet drake and the lick wounds thing is hilarious to those who don’t play a ranger.
But during combat. it is hard because usually in the zones, there are other people nearby who buff a boss. And honestly. If an npc is going to make or break an event. Then thats a learn to play issue there. When our class solo events, I think its the idiot who wants to try and pretend their a pet behind someone with healing power and 30 points in beastmastery. At which point as I ammount more HP. I don’t think they can die unless it is an instant kill.
Yeah? Well you know what! BLAH to you rangers who fight Grenth on the stairs right next to Jones, blah I say! To all you other rangers bros who are with me in the thick of it, neck and neck toe to toe with grenth all up in his kittenzle, your pre cool. It’s ok buddy, don’t be scared, my stability and blocks will save you!!
It shouldn’t be problem in DEs. But in FotM for example I’ve been in parties that have kicked Rangers and Mesmers out of the Jade Maw before because the pet or the clones were ‘wasting time drawing skull icon aggro from Maw’.
That’s probably to do with the party design problem where you only need 2 people to kick out someone else.
The problem is not whitin the pet, i’ts whitin the agro system. When the pet is in the dead state, he shoudn’t be able to be targeted by the boss from fotm for example.
This would be a great start to give the pet’s some love:-)
anet needs to rework pets,i hate if i put pet away it WONT stay away, sick of it, also sick of selecting one target them fkin shooting something else entirely!!!! grrr…
Pets are kidda annoying. They aggro mobs and bosses often for no reason. Any good ranger will stay back and put away the pet when the group needs to be discrete.
Really, the simple fix is allow the user to write its own pet ai code. This way the client can choose whether the pet is effective or not. I hope its less load on the servers the user is happy too
Been playing mmo’s since early UO, lots of mmo’s, and GW2’s ranger is the first class I’ve come to truly hate. GW1 my fav build was nec/rng. I had a ranger in gw2, I deleted it, and when possible I pass over inviting rangers into groups unless I know them, know that they will benefit the group rather than disrupt.
Points already made in this thread, causing frenzy and pulling in unwanted adds etc. Also the bow knockback is a hot button when used as all the melees are starting long immobile attack animations which become fully wasted. Somehow the melees can figure out that using knockbacks when grouped on a target is a bad idea, but rangers just keep at it no matter how much they get flamed for it.
If knockbacks were the only problem, wouldn’t be much of an issue, but add pets that just reign havoc on a group or open world event, such as causing bosses to start dropping heavy AOE’s one after another (eg champ giant at DP) and the ranger ignores pleas from the group to pull off the pet, well I’d be quite happy if anet just removed ranger class from the game all together.
I play as a FT engi. Wanna imagine how often I get told I’m playing my char wrong?
Ignore elitists the ignorants, play to have fun and don’t let it bother you

Depends on when theyre telling you to put your pet away, if its to avoid aggro, then I totally understand.
I sympathize with you even though I have never had such issues befall upon me, but if it did I would tell those people to go take a hike. (Though I would say it in a much vulgar fashion.) Now on the flip side, this issue really falls into the pet class problem MMOs have. The poor ai pet players have to babysit.
For GW2 a game that is meant to move the series forward it goes back far too many steps. I could list a few problems I have with it but it would throw the thread off topic. Suffice to say, just give Rangers a pet less build or improve its user-friendliness like it was in GW1.
The problem is not just some funny children pretending to have a clue but also how pet behave ingame. Something Anet could fix easily. If just the word fix wasn’t something like the word miracle, about this game, lol
I sympathize with you, not everyone loved my necro pets before the fight. At least i learned to make them behave long ago, so children shush immediately when they fight, funnily alive back to me while players are downed huahua

Pets are a nessicary part of the game. They will not be put away even if you guys say too, because a true ranger is never without his pet!
