I’m starting to wonder if its something wrong on my end, but in every zone I’ve gone through from 50 upwards it seems that 3/4 of the zones dynamic events are broken.

This makes an extremely boring leveling experience being stuck at just doing hearts, collecting mats and grinding mobs endlessly.

Should I report these? Even though they may have already been reported numerous times already.

For a mmo that revolves around these dynamic events, it blows my mind that the above problem has progressed this far.

the thing is it is actually frustrating and unfair that arenanet have not mentioned this or made some sort message to let us know that they are aware of this problem and they will fix it I would love some sort of response from them here or somewhere just to keep our minds at ease that you arenanet are working on this issue.

Definitely not just you, from 50+ I’ve been having a hard time finding DEs that are not broken and it’s really been killing my desire to play sadly.

The worst thing imo though, is that they stayed bugged for days in a lot of cases despite people reporting them. Would have hoped they had a way to restart them easily.

Today has been the worst to date in terms of broken dynamic events. Literally, the last seven dynamic events ive come across are stalled and bugged. It seems like there are more bugged events than there are events that are working.

I am willing to be patient (I love this game), but this is something that really needs to be looked into pretty fast. Dynamic Events are the biggest part of the PVE game for most people. They really should be a priority.

Obviously, I have reported every single broken event – to the point where I am spending way too much of my game time looking at the bug report screen.

…..and there is no other easy way to make Karma. If things stay like this I won’t be able to afford 1/10th of an end content Karma armor piece by the time I reach Orr.

I have a pretty good rant about this in another thread, so I’ll just sum up my concern here. The reason this stuff happens is that none of the higher level zones were ever offered in the public betas. Nothing over level 35 was ever tested. This has resulted in a number of zones that were not ready for full-scale use and are now broken.

It’s a common oversight throughout the entire MMO genre of games. They don’t test stuff at the proper level, they release it anyway, it breaks, they fix it, life goes on. Is it frustrating? Yes. Is it annoying? Absolutely. Is it expected? Unfortunately. I’m not gonna necessarily defend this kind of thing, but I understand it. The alternative would have been to take another 6 months to a year to finish the testing, either through more BWEs or a full, ongoing, open beta. Then, we would all have been complaining about that. No win situation there.

That said, just keep reporting the bugs where you find them and they’ll fix them as soon as they can. ANet’s a pretty good bunch of people, as game companies go, I’m sure they’ll figure it out soon enough. If not, well, there’s no sub for this game. If it gets too unbearable, one can always just go find something else to do for a while, and come back in a few weeks/months when they finally get it all fixed.

Hmm… my summing up became another rant. Oh, well, doesn’t change the idea. Once I start voicing my opinion, I have a hard time stopping myself. Character flaw I guess.

Anyways, that’s my thoughts. Just my opinion of course, your viewpoint may vary.

Hey everyone. Thanks for your feedback and we all greatly appreciate this constructive criticism as you deal with these frustrations.

To respond to this I can say that, yes, we’re aware of the general issues that have been reported with many Dynamic Events and skill challenges. They frustrate us as much as they frustrate you – most if not all of us devs are playing the game right along with you, and these content blockers can certainly be challenging to everyone’s enjoyment of the game experience.

I would like take this opportunity to clarify one thing I’ve seen discussed here on the forums and in game chat. It’s just not true that the higher level or other content wasn’t tested. It was. Thoroughly.

But even with the Beta Weekend Events and our own internal testing, there’s really only so much that we can do to simulate the number of times that events have to run in sequence once a game like Guild Wars 2 goes live. In particular, Arenanet has made iteration one of our key development philosophies which has the benefit of promoting the publishing of better in-game content, but which has the consequence of us doing many builds a day while we’re developing. In many cases the events that are breaking are doing so because of compounding errors that are hard to catch when you’re developing in such a fluid environment. We’re seeing a number of these blocking issues in events that have undergone extensive internal testing, but which have never needed to run dozens of times in a row, because of how frequently we developers were iterating and generating new builds.

We’re working as hard as we can to find and fix the biggest blocking issues, and it’s one of our top priorities to ensure that you can complete each map and play in events without running into these kinds of issues. We sincerely appreciate your patience, and your detailed reports on anything you come across that isn’t working as it should.

I’ve read elsewhere that many of these bugs with events and so on can go away for a while when the server is reset. Is it possible to do a quick server reset every night to handle this (while we wait for a real bug fix)? Some have said they have waited days so they could continue (and they keep saying they are waiting for a server reset). Your team has probably already considered this, but you know, just in case.

+1 for a nightly server reset until the bugs and DE that get stuck can be ironed out.

The Scritt DE in Brisban at the Invariant base that are currently bugged out was working previously as was the skillpoint at the Wayfarer Foothill hot springs.

The skillpoint alone being bugged is enough to stop people from getting 100%. Which is a bit of a slap in the face considering that others are currently running around with 100% completion.

I’ve posted this suggestion a few times, but I’m not sure I ever got a reply as to why it wouldn’t work, so here it goes again…

Add a timer that complete restarts dynamic events and skillpoints if no progress has been made for the past 15 minutes, progress being:
a) Damage being done to target(s )
b) Damage taken by players or friendly NPCs
c) Skillpoint challenge being accepted by a player

The timer coding already exists for some dynamic events, namely ones where you survive wave after wave of enemies for X amount of time, toss it into every dynamic event, make it invisible to the player, and reset it to 15 minutes as soon as any progress is made. The 15 minutes of no progress is long enough that it would be difficult, if not impossible to exploit anything missed, and if a player is unable to make progress for 15 minutes, obviously something is broken or no one is there so it doesn’t affect any player progress. Examples:

1) Dynamic event “Guard the Dolyak” is stuck on wave 2/3. Players are standing around, but nothing is spawning. 15 minutes pass, Dolyak respawns at original DE starting point and the event resets.

2) No one is participating in dynamic event “Take over camp.” 14 minutes pass and a player wanders along and starts fighting. As soon as the player hits an enemy (or they hit him) the timer resets to 15 minutes, and continues to reset to 15 minutes every time either him or the enemy takes damage.

3) Skillpoint “Fight the Pirate Captain” has spawned underground. No players are able to talk to her, and 15 minutes later she is reset to her default position.

Does this fix each and every event? No, and obviously the most desirable thing here would be to get each dynamic and skillpoint event working properly. This would be a fantastic “bandaid,” however, until the issues are properly sorted out. It negatively impacts no one (as far as I can tell, please point any out) and doesn’t leave events open to exploiting the resets (as rewards are only dished out on completion and 15 minutes is a lot of downtime to try to exploit something, let me know if you think of something). Remove the timer when you think dynamic events and skillpoints have been fixed.

The stuck dynamic events are one thing, but the ones that worry me more are the events stuck spawning infinite enemies or all around having serious economic effects on the game. Bots and RTMers are one thing, but when you have hundreds of legitimate players farming bugged spawns for hours (even with anti-farming code there’s so many enemies spawning its still 10x better farming than normal), it gets real messy if those aren’t unstuck… Some have been stuck in that state for days or more. Imagine how much loot/gold is being generated from them…

/agree with CHunterX . I thought this also. Some timer or ability to reset an event that the system realises as bugged would be a great bandaid. Certainly not a long term fix but at least people would be able to progress.

Borliss Pass:

Straights of Devestation – FREQUENTLY unable to do the temple assault because one of the three’ reinforcement’ dynamic events breaks.

Several skill challenges frozen, and so on and so forth…

I haven’t logged in in over a week because the entire Orr area on borliss pass seems broken, every time i log in (logged in today, escort quest for southern reinforcements was frozen) they are frozen/broke, and i just dont feel like playing any of my alt’s.

Ive grown really tired of the constantly breaking DE’s and world bosses

Luckily ,i trust you guys to get it all working. So, im gonna sit out for another week or so and play various new releases while I wait!

I also think that a timer, or even just rolling resets would be a great temporary fix, one that I’d be fine with even for an extended amount of time until they can be properly patched, since having them mostly working is so much better than partially working.

There are so many broken events and skill challenges now that it’s really getting frustrating:( Why we don’t get more server restarts is beyond me.

But thanks for saying something Mathew and I really hope you guys can straighten it all out. The game is really fun when it’s running as it should but, sadly, this is the worst state I have seen the game in since the first BWE (not counting stress tests).

The whole of Orr is broken on Gunnar’s Hold EU to the point of all temples progress being blocked, and now Arah so people cannot even run the dungeon or complete their story mode.

The other 80 zones are just as bad, extremely disappointing that nothing after the first few zones was tested properly. This game is pretty much unplayable in its current state.

Unfortunately we can only do a few things:

1. Logoff and wait for this to get resolved (this resolve means 1-3 weeks of waiting)
2. Go through zones and simply do what is available although more and more skill points, dynamic events, hearts are borked (yes i mean broken) and attempt to let the frustration not dominate you although it will still do so.
3. Go do other things in the game like WvWvW which can be fun depending on if things are balanced because if not it’s a boring steam roll or it’s just mainly laying on the ground.

I unfortunately after waiting and seeing dynamic events, hearts, and skill point challenges borked for week or longer and not seeing it fixed I generally start to think this isn’t a priority to Arenanet. I can’t understand why they haven’t reset the servers to allow these points to open up so that people can get stuff done.

I guess we will have to wait for the fix “when it’s ready”…

And there is some bug or a new system for karma, where if you do a couple of events in a short time you get only 15 karma or smth.. this is radiculous … People who want to make legendary weapon have a lot, a lot things to do which are taking a lot of time,really, and now karma farming is borken too … i ask how now we can get that legendaries ? 525k is needed for only obisidan shards.. and for transmutes for clovers is needed next 21k for shards. If we ar enot lucky we can even need 2+mln of karma … how to get it hmm ? And a lot of events is still bugged…

Actually, the dev team explained this elsewhere – the new system that was put in place to restrict dungeon farming is itself broken and affecting karma/event rewards elsewhere, which means the karma system is bugged currently. Hopefully the next update will fix this.

Add my vote, by the way, to those recommending that we go back to nightly/daily server resets. DE chains seem to have worked much better prior to weekend before last when ANet was updating the game and rebooting the servers every night. It seems plain to me that leaving the servers up and operating for this long without a reset is not a good idea in the case of a project as complex as this, because, as we all know, the longer you leave a PC running, the slower it runs and the more likely it is to encounter errors because of full-up memory and stuff like that. Entropy just naturally occurs when you leave things going for that long, and I think that’s what’s going on here; as the dev said earlier, we’re seeing “compounding errors” which appear to be caused by one thing going wrong and then causing other things to go wrong. The problem could probably be ameliorated (along with new patches) by resuming daily server reboots.

I’ll say my piece and add up front that I don’t care who reads it or who dislikes what I have to say.

These “game bugs” are more than frustrating, they’re disgusting!

What I find to be completely ironic is that the the gem store has hardly been “under maintenance”. I’ve said it in game chat and I’ll say it here—Anet’s FIRST priority seems to be their cash-line and getting people to buy gems. They can squawk all they want about how they care about the game (we shut down sales to preserve the game experience) but as the old saying goes actions speak louder than words and their lack of action is speaking volumes.

Anet seems pretty content to leave the broken things broken as long as the gem store and other real world money items work.

All of us playing have already paid for the game and are being let down by the inaction and lack of bug fixes.

If Anet wants our continued business and support of their products, they would get off their butts and fix the things that have been broken for weeks!

Booey, I understand your frustration – heck, more than that, I share it – but the fact is that, as Matthew said earlier in this thread, ANet is just as upset and frustrated as we are. This game is their flagship, they’re in this for the long haul. If they were really just as focused on the short term, “take the money and run”, view, they wouldn’t be upset about it, but they’re focused completely on trying to track down and fix everything that’s broken. I think they should have gone with the path of rebooting the servers every day as they used to until 10 or so days ago, which would probably have prevented many of the problems we’re now seeing with DE’s breaking down, but I understand why they want to try to do everything in one big go. Add on to that the fact that a major fix they instituted last week, which was supposed to have put the brakes on dungeon farming, appears to have instead gone haywire and broken many event rewards gamewide, and I think they must be tearing their hair out right now. And there’s also the fact that if they talk too much about the mechanics of in-game programming problems, they’re giving ammunition to the botters and gold farmers to exploit the game, which I can think we all agree is completely undesirable.

At this point, all I think we can do is wait until tonight’s update – at least, I’m pretty sure it’s going to go up at 3 am Eastern/12 midnight Pacific – and see how the new patch and server reset works to fix things. That, right now, is the best I can think of to tell you.

I want to tell the developers that many events that feature bridges, often cause pack animals and NPCs to go insane and usually cause them to glitch. I also want to announce that Quaggan events on land (near Tequatl, for example), cause them to always walk in circles for 10 minutes near the end before they actually reach their destination. It seem as if these types of events cause enemies to just… get stuck.

Also, skill events such as the shark event in Sparkfly Swamp and skill events in Kessex Hills almost always bug out or do not reset. The Desolation server has been unable to complete Sparkly since launch.

Its far from just the higher level areas that have these issues. The problems start already in the starter areas. I think Ive reported at least 5 broken skill challenges and 5-7 broken events minimum while doing level 1-35 areas. The thing is, alot of these were working fine until a couple of patches ago then they really started breaking.

As for the broken skill challenges, in some places it seems like the npc has fallen through the terrain (or for some odd reason invisible), like for example in beetletun, I can hear the npc yelling but he is nowhere to be found.

Today at least 3-4 DEs in the 15-20 area of the Azura are glitched. I actually logged out for the past 3 or four hours because of it. Not to mention the last skill point challenge being broke for at least the last two days. All of which I’ve reported.

It’s things like this that make people start to faulter in their interest in playing. And that’s a sad thing because it’s such a cool game. But it’s not just this game, but any game that starts to have game breaking bugs and glitches. People just lose interest and either find something new, or go back to the old standby… I’ve watched it happen to the last four MMO’s that I played, save one, and that’s just old no matter what they do to it.

Well the patch went through yesterday and supposed fixes for events, skill points, and hearts were done… and the net result….

In less than 24 hours skill points are bugged, dynamic events are bugged, and hearts are bugged.

I can only say that what they need to do until they get true fixes into place is reset the servers every 24 hours to give people a chance to finish zones.

Rage… it doesn’t matter how many times we report broken things. They stay broken. They know what is broken. They have had these same skill points broken over and over again. They know it’s broken.

The system is Borked. Completely borked. All they need to do is reset each and every skill point, heart and dynamic event during the reset.

It is called a RESET.

They can reset and should reset because waiting weeks for things to be fixed and then having them fixed for a few hours only to be broken again is complete and utter Kitten poop. Their system for keeping Dynamics up and running, Skill Points up and running, and hearts up and running is Borked…. Add in the system of harming our ability to make money, karma, and exp is also Borked and not fixed. The game is sliding dangerously down the wrong side of the hill.

Add in the fact that we get absolutely no new information on what’s going on these issues is just absurd.

What it does without even a “We are looking into this matter and we agree that our solutions haven’t worked” simply shows the company isn’t treating this as a high priority.

I was just coming here to suggest this exact thing, I’ve seen a number of “stuck” events where (I assume) skill point challenge or event mobs didn’t spawn, have somehow fallen through the world/been knocked into the geometry or were killed without credit being given.

Surely this would be a sensible and relatively simple solution? You know when the skill point challenge/event kicked off and the last time it progressed (where a player managed to contribute to it in some way, a mob took damage or the NPCs made some progress their own). If nothing happens to an event in 15 or so minutes then it must be bugged.

Until they’re reliable it seems like a very practical way of working around these issues and is a lot better than just waiting for server restarts or switching servers.

The dev didn’t mention resets at all. A skill point challenge or event doesn’t need to be broken for a week before they get reports. The servers resetting every night won’t stop the events bugging out during that day and so they’ll still get reports about broken events. Not resetting just results in more duplicate reports they’ll get so leaving it broken for days just results in more “noise” in their system.

Resetting the servers seems to be the only thing that ArenaNet can currently do in game to fix this (rather amazingly they don’t seem to have the ability to have GMs affect things in game at all).

Regardless, you don’t need to reset the entire server, a system like the one CHunterX proposes above would work well and could replace dozens of bug reports with one concise, automatically-generated event error report with exactly the information they need to detect and hopefully fix the error.

For example, if a skill point challenge NPC falls through the world and disappears for 15 minutes the server will detect that, reset the event and forward on all relevant information to the devs such as the precise coordinates of the NPCs involved just before being reset, a list of the last few abilities that the NPCs used and that were used on the NPC, and any other information at hand (other events occurring in the zone, characters/professions involved and so on).

That kind of automatic information would be far more useful than a hundred bug reports that are variants on “skillpoint/event X is broke! Fix plz!” that will go unanswered and maybe even unnoticed in the pile.

I see how Jon Peters has come out to discuss the issues with Down Rated rewards with Dungeons but hasn’t come out to discuss an issue that hits more people in the game which is Down Rated rewards with dynamic events.

Simply shows how high it is on their radar when he doesn’t say crap about the issue nor does anyone else from the company.

I think this Down Rated Reward system for Dynamic Events is something they intend to keep.

It’s probably their hope it will prevent bots and farmers….

I have a pretty good rant about this in another thread, so I’ll just sum up my concern here. The reason this stuff happens is that none of the higher level zones were ever offered in the public betas. Nothing over level 35 was ever tested. This has resulted in a number of zones that were not ready for full-scale use and are now broken.

It’s a common oversight throughout the entire MMO genre of games. They don’t test stuff at the proper level, they release it anyway, it breaks, they fix it, life goes on. Is it frustrating? Yes. Is it annoying? Absolutely. Is it expected? Unfortunately. I’m not gonna necessarily defend this kind of thing, but I understand it. The alternative would have been to take another 6 months to a year to finish the testing, either through more BWEs or a full, ongoing, open beta. Then, we would all have been complaining about that. No win situation there.

That said, just keep reporting the bugs where you find them and they’ll fix them as soon as they can. ANet’s a pretty good bunch of people, as game companies go, I’m sure they’ll figure it out soon enough. If not, well, there’s no sub for this game. If it gets too unbearable, one can always just go find something else to do for a while, and come back in a few weeks/months when they finally get it all fixed.

Hmm… my summing up became another rant. Oh, well, doesn’t change the idea. Once I start voicing my opinion, I have a hard time stopping myself. Character flaw I guess.

Anyways, that’s my thoughts. Just my opinion of course, your viewpoint may vary.

Another reason you see this is when games restrict content during beta. I wasn’t here for GW2 beta so I do not know what the level cap or the extent of beta was. I do know they had people with legendary(s) in beta so I’d assume they allowed max-level testing?

Just to add to this.

I know a lot of events are stuck etc, but is it just me or a lot of them also not awarding XP aswell. I did around 5 events the last time i logged in and not 1 of them gave me the XP in my bar that the medal area said i’d earned.

After the 1st time i noticed it i made sure before the next few events to check what my XP was before the event, in every case it had only risen the amount of the kills and not the 1000+ XP i earned from the events themselfs.

The servers need to be reset once a day at this point. After Tuesday’s patch everything was fine, then as the week wore on, more and more stuff broke. Right now half the events on Cursed Shore are broken, you can’t even get into Arah because the event chain is broken.

In many cases the events that are breaking are doing so because of compounding errors that are hard to catch when you’re developing in such a fluid environment. We’re seeing a number of these blocking issues in events that have undergone extensive internal testing, but which have never needed to run dozens of times in a row, because of how frequently we developers were iterating and generating new builds.

I rather doubt the Beta Week Ends resulted in much if any ‘testing’ of level 80 content.

I have been reporting these for weeks starting from the very first zones and through all the zones. I come back later and still see the same DE’s frozen that I reported weeks ago.

Perhaps your fancy buzzword description of your development process should be replaced with a term like spaghetti code where in the more changes you introduce to the system, the harder and longer it takes to fix things.

Why is it that nerfs that reduce ways players can get rewards happen frequently, but content bug fixes seem to be on the back burner?

My first time in Cursed Shore the only DE’s that worked were the two Penitent path ones. I stayed in zone for 3 hours and nothing else happened. What a let down.

ANet, you guys cannot go more than a few days without a server reset at this point. The DE content, after a day or two, breaks to a point where it really hurts the reputation and quality of your product. We already went down this road last week! Do you guys not care?! Tarnished Coast can’t even get into Arah!

You can see with the massive amount of attention and responses that the Anet staff gives to this area of the forums they are deeply concerned with this situation.

Right now on Ring of Fire server there is only one Temple events working and we cant event get to Arah because its stuck in some step. At Fort Trinity central and south invasion stuck as well.

Its totaly crazy.

I love this game but please at least restart server for us every day till you solve this problems. I want to play tomorrow and i want some armor from Temple of Melandru but its stuck…

Please at least try reboot

Let me ask this I am in the 25-35 zone after queensdale and there are not that many events going on. Is there just not that many at later levels or is it just some of them are bugged so they stop running? Just curious some places seem like they have hardly any while in some places like the centaur attacking the bridge there are like 3 that run non stop so I always have to go there to get my daily 5 events.
I think its pretty obvious from anet that they are listening and trying their hardest to fix stuff that is wrong so I dont really worry about that.

In Orr zones there are basicly only DE and you can see some running all the time if everything is fine. And yes i seen them running. In lower level zones you will learn where are DE chains and how you can help them start. I actually liked that 25-35 zone and killed lots of centaurs there

But right now lots of them are stuck with NPC standing at some spot waiting for something and we cant help them.

Also you need temple events to run so you can buy exotic armor you would like and that cant be done as well which is sad and disapointing.
