Defend Pact Engineers (Malchor's Leap)
This one is way easier than the one at Doric’s pass… I’ve 2-manned this event many times…
WvW Rank 3800 (Platinum Veteran) – PvP Rank 69 (Shark) – 25,9k Achievment Points
Mërcenaries [Sold] – Ferguson’s Crossing
Has this event changed recently? I’ve seen a lot of dead players here lately.
I attempted this event solo on my engi about a month ago. Bursted down the trebs immediately, cleared the mobs, and started reviving the second engineer when things started respawning, coincidentally, also when an elementalist had wandered in to help.
Didn’t seem too difficult with two.
For the toast!
This event seems to be balanced around having all the NPCs alive. If you manage to start the event with all the NPCs alive, the catapults will never be built because the enemies will be killed as they run in, and it becomes just a matter of dealing with the veteran abominations, which are the only real threat to the NPCs.
To complete the event, all you need to do is keep the engineers alive to fully rebuild the camp. The more engineers alive, the faster it’s built. Furthermore, the buildings that are built can be destroyed by the surrounding enemies. Once a building is destroyed, it has to be rebuilt.
Due to the rate at which the enemies respawn, there is no point in killing them when trying to solo the event. The respawn rate seem to be bugged though, since I have killed them all before and they didn’t respawn for a few minutes, but usually, they’re back in less than 10 seconds. You need to rez each NPC to 99%, making sure to not fully revive them. When you’re ready, you begin rezzing the last 1% on all of them, starting with the guards, because you don’t want the engineers to grab agro first. Your only job now is to keep the mobs away from the engineers and to stop any mobs attacking the buildings for as long as possible until the camp is built. If all the engineers die, chances are you will fail and have to start all over again, since the enemies will destroy what was built before you can manage to recover.
If you have someone else with you, the same technique can be used, but one player decoys all the mobs prior to fully rezzing the NPCs. There is a spot in back where you can jump to a rock which will cause all the enemies to stand there unless they agro onto something else.
I’d definately take a second look at this event if nothing else. Despite some saying it was easy with 2 people, at one point I was there with 3-4 other people and it still took like 10 minutes to complete.
Think the problem (as kind of hit on above) is with the NPCs. The number of enemies seems balanced around the large number of NPCs all being alive. When they aren’t alive there are too many enemies and the presence of catapults makes it even worse. Problem is, getting there with the NPCs alive seems like a lost cause to some extent, because most of the time the event will just be sitting stagnant with all the NPCs dead and all the enemies alive. Being faced with 10+ respawning enemies + catapults and having to revive a dozen NPCs is a really stacked situation.
Perhaps the event should fail after a certain amount of time so that everything can reset, rather than just having everything stack up into a horrible situation thats going to be a major hurdle for anyone trying to walk into it.
Yeah trying to solo this is an exercise in frustration. Two people make it pretty easy though. Its because the catapults have someone else to fire at imo.
I finally managed to solo this event.
For a time I thought that it was not possible, spending as long as 30mn chain killing the mobs, hoping for a random player to pass by to help me rez some npc.
But if you can handle the mobs and catapults it’s all about choosing when and where to rez some npc to assist you.
I agree that the event seems very hard at first , you also need a defensive/healing build to stand a decent chance solo.
(Using a very defensive PvE heal/bleed thief here)
