Dynamic Event Design Fail Promotes Botting
Enemies who stay in one area for too long should get a “marked” buff.
Event enemies will focus on “marked” players before anyone else.
for the record i dont bot or agree with it,
but back when kill stealing and mob locked due to tagging was prevalent i could see this was an issue.
now, i get kill credit regardless, can loot regardless. i don’t really see how person A botting is having any effect on my game play other then being an issue of Person A has no idea how to play his class during a dungeon run, unfortunately the skills are tied to weapons that i ended up learning all of before i hit level 3.
so i could care less if there are bots on that bridge, they were there when i started, guess what, i did the event and i moved on.
unless you can explain exactly how the botting is ruining your gameplay i will still hold to the opinion of WGAF about in in GW2, other games that DO have kill steal credit / loot rights i do care about
This particular event has already been mentioned in other threads WRT botting. Also the devs have addressed the issues here:

@blighton: i don’t know… maybe it’s just me right but don’t you feel cheated when you see all of these people afk playing and earning karma and stuff while you actually spend some time of your life playing this game to achieve the same result?
@roqoco: i think you’re missing the point here. i read that article which was specifically why i posted this thread. The article goes on to say that specific action is being done to stop botters. That’s well and good and kudos to ANet for that. What it fails to address is the fact that the design of the content itself is what is encouraging botting and afk-playing.
I mean, come on… give people a bridge or a single point of entry that mobs will regularly run to at scheduled intervals and that give loads of karma and what not – and of course people, by virtue of them being people, will find ways to make it work to their advantage.
So we come down to this:
1) either suck it up or join them since this seems to be the most efficient way at the moment to level up and gain karma and exp (oh look i’m gaining stuff even when i’m not on the computer) OR
2) fix this to encourage people to actually friggin play the game
This happens in sparkfly next to the heart where risen and kraits come in to steal supplies. There are often several rangers afk just firing at nothing. I have reported them several times and guess what…. they are still there.
Don’t worry I have faith in Arena Net to have a “fix” in the system that will impact the real players while having zero impact on the bots.
They have great fixes in there already like the “farming fix” and the Down Ranking rewards for Dynamic Events.
Marked sounds like a great idea except for DEs in Orr where u are to defend a camp or something…
@pyronix
Not in the least, i payed $60 to play a game, im playing it, they are not
I will hit max level slogging my way through stuff, ill know whats where and the like
When they hit max level they will quickly grow bored and quit. Drops are dynamic. By the time they hit max level they will also have 80 gear, there will be 0 reason for them to do lower level stuff, again they will grow bored and leave.
It will take me longer to grow bored with the game non camp farming, then they will camp farming. So it doesnt bother me in the least
*edit – yesterday i b.ou.gh.t .tkitten o.n longbow, i was happy as i liked the design and i actually earned it, a design i will keep for a long while ( with exception of if i can buy the Norn Wolf head weapons but im human so i doubt it. )
I have no idea why it edited the. ebon

That was a short article, just intended to correct the very strange impression that some people had got that Arenanet don’t care about bots and are not doing anything about it. Similarly Arenanet also know and will certainly care about specific places in the game that make botting easier: Your op is nothing new – those of us who play the game a lot all know about these areas and why they favor bots. No doubt Arenanet will address this, when they have the time and resources to make that a priority. But, it makes no sense for them to reveal exactly what they intend to do about it, since that would just tip the botter’s hand.
In fact, one should appreciate that all these threads about botting are really quite anti-productive. Anyone reading your thread who didn’t know about those places, surely does now. Much better to just report botting over the in game channels than to publicize it here and elsewhere.

The areas in Orr are pretty small, unless you’re camping the event it wouldn’t be a problem.
