I don’t think it’s a good idea, pretty sure Anet don’t want people competing against one another in DEs, the 3 ranks system is good enough imo, especially since it’s so easy to get gold if you actually participate.

There is loot reward for world bosses though, but it’s for everybody who participated!

Would be nice to see a little more rare items, I’ve farmed a lot of dragons (claw of jormag, Shatterer, Tequatl, Megadestroyer) @80 and the only drops I’m getting are pure blues / greens in the 74 – 80 range.

The point of karma was to ensure that people didn’t have to worry about participating in a specific event to get a particular item. Karma as a currency is perfect in allowing people to buy what they want while participating in the events that they want.

There is also a problem with this: this forces players to compete with each other to get these rewards. What about the players that enjoy more support roles like reviving fallen enemies, or protecting people in siege weapons?

It is suppose to be a cooperative game, and I think the current system allows people to play together without stressing if they are doing too little to achieve a specific reward.

One thing they could do is add more karma vendors or more items to current karma vendors which is probably going to happen with future content anyways

Who contributes more? The one that dps’s all the way through but does not ress people next to them., of the person running round ressing to keep the group alive and so the fight is won?

Does the warrior nuking contribute more or the guardian using support abilities to keep people alive? The elementalist nuking aoe or the mesmer buffing the whole group?

I’d love to see how you pick the “top 3 people”, the current contribution system is already screwed up enough.

Actually one thing Warhammer did get right in their PQ’s was participation. Everyone got counted from healers to damage dealers to tanks. ArenaNet could learn a thing from the Warhammer devs on that. Currently the only real contribution in events is damage. Everything else is worthless. So support classes get the shaft if they use their support skills. This needs looking at asap.

Rift used contribution meters to begin with….it was bad. people just spammed instant buffs to max them> people will always learn to game the system. So Trion did the right thing, ditched it entirely.

I dont see why there shoudl be any competition between players for top contribution in events, they are supposed to be collaborative not competitive.

I’d hope Anet ditch gold silve and bronze events contribution and jsut move to awarding participation. Possibly rewarding per stage of event, so if you do 8/8 waves you get more reward (sightly) than 5/8 waves.

The idea that players should compete for the 3 top spots like the OP suggests is I think a really really bad idea.

If you’re doing the same DEs over and over again, that’s exactly why you’re getting nothing.

I’ve never seen a system that works well at defining who “works the hardest”.

I’d design it assuming people will play for fun, rather than assuming players are all freeloading skivers.

The Warhammer version worked well. No matter what role I played, I knew I could reach the top of the table by working hard. Be that at healing, damaging or tanking.

It’s fine to say that people play for fun, but why should those who want to slack off get the same reward as those who try their hardest in an encounter? To me, those who work hardest should get the best rewards. The current reward system is fine IMO, all those that work hardest get gold contribution, the others get silver and eventually bronze. No need to change it.

I do want to see the way contribution is awarded adjusted. It’s not fair that support roles do not get the credit they deserve. Seems that right now, the only way to get good contribution is to DPS.

Another one heading off topic, we’re good at this! So my simple reply to the OP is nope. My plea to Anet is nope. And I doubt it would be changed to work that way either – karma was put in almost purely so that Anet didn’t need to reward “those that work hardest”, because Anet want to reward everyone who has fun playing their game.

Just put more loots in Meta events for Silver and above players. Bronze has only a chance at a yellow like it works at the moment.

For example: A meta event has a 100% chance to drop a level appropriate random yellow. That way you can’t farm an event for a specific yellow, but all of them come back worthwhile in a way.

Currently as it stands I have gotten more yellows from trash during the event to take the temples rather than actually the chest at the end of the temple event. That isn’t right for the risk vs reward.

If the Heal numbers on allies, and the DoT’s on enemies, etc were counted the same way direct damage is then it would go a long way towards leveling the participation curve. However, there are still participation bugs out there for DEs. There are several (based on reading this thread) that seem to be awarding gold participation when all you do is show up and pop one mob. I know on a few of the escort ones, when there’s a single mob that ambushes at the end, you just need to hit that one and you get gold. I’ve /bugged it a few times since BWE3.
