No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
I keep hearing ppl with 100% confidance telling me ’it’s not dps, Guardians tag so much better’. And other weird assumptions. When I ask for details, they all are very silent, (to me admitting they don’t know anything about it.
My own testing seems to confirm dps has no influence, but that there is a certain tresshold (minimum damage), before you get a tag. It also seems past a certain numbe of farmers (60+?), that the software (gw2 server), will not hand out a champ loot bag to everyone anymore, no matter how well they tag. It seems partially random then who gets punished to get no loot.
So what are your thoughts? I just did 250k damage on a group event champ, in a party and didn’t get loot, but tagged the event. I call that weird, how do you guys think it works?
I’ve gotten tags with my guardian pitiful staff 1 after hitting the champ only once, and I’ve missed out on tags when doing a 30k 100b on my warrior.
I think it’s based on party damage overall. Something about every party member in your group hitting a target reduces the threshold for getting kill credit.
Guard staff 1 is popular because of culling and they can spam 1 without cd and it’s an 180 degree 600 range aoe cleave.
You have to tag within about the first 5-10% of the champion’s healthbar.
You can do all the dps you want to at a boss 25% of the way in and get nothing, you can autoattack 2-3 times on a champ when it first spawns and die and still get loot when you come back and its dead.
not true either devildoc, i’ve had occasions where i’ve hit a champ on 10% only 2 or 3 times and recieved loot and other timers where i’ve dps’d from its spawn to its death and recieved nothing.
i thought it was todo with culling but even when staying ontop of the mob i am stilling getting the loot bug.
Tagging is based on total DPS.
Let’s say the champ has 100k HP. There is a threshold you have to reach. Let’s say it’s 10K
Here are some scenarios:
-all 5 players in party tag the mob for 9k before it dies. You will not get loot
-4 players in party tag mob for 11k. You get in one tag for 400 dmg. You will get loot.
-4 players in party tag mob for 50k. You don’t even get a single hit. You will not get loot (but the other players do)
-all 5 players tag a mob for 11k in the first 5 seconds, then go to another champ to kill. The first mob dies a minute later. You will get loot.
-You are not in a party but there is a zerg with you. You do 10k dmg. You will get loot.

Not true, there is a cutoff for how far down it is by the time you start attacking.
If you do 100k damage to a champ that is 50% down when you start doing damage to it, you won’t get loot.
I’ve actually done this.
I’ve also just pegged at a mob with a shortbow on thief, as long as I started hitting it early and did a very meager amount of dps to it, I got loot.
There is a threshold to how much damage you have to do, sure but it’s fairly low. But if you do that damage too late in the mob’s lifebar, it does not matter how much damage you do, you will not get loot.
I’ve had several instances where I did not touch a champion that my party has, and I tagged it once and got loot.
Yeah I think if your party tags it in time you can still get credit. But if nobody in your party tags it until its half dead, tough luck

I’ve been solo, tagged a champ at less than 15% many times and still got credit.
I think vol is the only one who knows what they are talking about here.
To add to his post:
- the game treats solo players and groups the exact same. They are both equal “entities” and must pass the damage threshold to get xp/loot.
- there is no timer or cut-off point, it’s purely a total damage calculation
- even if your group does 90% of the mobs HP, you must do at least 1 dmg to be considered part of your team
- when there is only one target it is much easier to pass the damage threshold as a solo player (Frostgorge champ train). I don’t join groups for this and I’ve never missed loot even with 60 other people there. Compared to the Ember farm, where there are multiple mobs and groups can attack 2-3 champs at the same time. As a solo player you are extremely lucky to get loot here.
The funny thing about all of this is that the more groups that form, the more you need to be in a group. If every player stayed solo, many more people (basically everyone) would get loot, as one player cannot do enough damage to a champion alone to lock anyone else out. This is why it’s so easy to get loot during map invasions, even as a solo player. Most others are solo, and even if they are grouped, they are often split up or not attacking in the same area.
I should also amend that the threshold doesn’t appear to be a static number, say 10k damage.
It appears to be a percentage of the bosses HP, like 5%. That’s why it gets harder to tag when you have a whole zerg as opposed to a few people.
What people fail to realize in these new events is that Scarlet herself actually does drop a Deluxe Box. You need to be in a full party with massive DPS in order to get credit.
Engie flamethrower → Best tagger hands down.
So if the damage threshold is 10k, and you’re in a full party, each member only needs to do 2k in order to qualify, whereas if you were solo you need to do the full 10k in damage?
In what way is this fair for a solo player?
