Farming Champs by Failing Events
Or just make chests only drop at the end of metaevent stages, but drop several of them to account for the number of champions killed during that stage.
Just my opinion, but Anet has gotten soft over time. I say if you cheat, and this is cheating, then you should pay the price. Anet was very strict against cheaters before. This kind of exploit abuse (Ember farming for example) ruins the community and makes greedy players into greedy “everyone for themselves” jerks. That’s not the community I know in this game. I personally think it’s time for at least a slap on the wrist. I try to post my opinion, but rarely come back as someone always has something negative to say to try to make themselves feel smarter.
It’s not an exploit, and people can do what they want. No matter what anet does not everyone is going to be happy about it.

You can break those super easy if you just climb up on that Dome where the VISTA is.
I think you can even leap right onto them and melee them if ya have a good Lunge :p
the reason why people are kitten ed if you try to do that event is because triggering it in the first place is a kitten. Anet did as a joke a mob called jester. Champion jesters tends to spawn like every time escort happens, making the escort quest fail 8-9 out of 10 times. Nothing screams OP better than squishs NPCs and strong risen jesters that put a bomb on everyone that 1 hit escort npcs.
Ember farms are completely out of control on Blackgate. Please Devs, take a look at this.
I draw the line at filing false reports about someone who is actually trying to complete the event. Which is what I saw in the chat thread today. Seriously messed up.
A good option would be to limit the number of bags you can get or something.
Man I think this is the way to go, but people are gonna be maaaaad if they do it.
Once you give players a taste, they get mad if you hinder their farm in any way, even if its for the good of the game as a whole. I hope ANet has a graceful solution in mind, otherwise they just traded CoF 1 farm for abusing event trains.
It saddens me that somehow, others will take something meant to be good and make it detrimental.
Well, I have tried to complete the event a few times now, and for doing so I have actually had death threats. Yes, between the says, whispers, and map chat, all the commanders are yelling to everyone my name and for them to report and spam me mail and whispers.
PS, if a GM would like to private message me, I have many screen shots of this.
Yeah this is getting out of hand and needs to be fixed. I’ve seen some violent things said to people in Map chat in the Cursed Shore and in Queensdale if anyone tries to complete the quest or if they try to kill a Champ outside of the farm run order they have set.
Here’s my solution for that particular Anchorage event:
1) get rid of destroying the two structures requirement for event success
2) instill a “risen morale” meter that after enough mobs have been killed, it will spawn the final champ. The amount of morale reduced could be based on the type of mob killed: a normal will take off a little bit, but killing a champ will take off 33% of the bar.
3) reduce # of champ spawns for that event, so farming for failure wouldn’t be enticing.
This way Anet’s new champ loot system stays, but the event won’t have such a ridiculous gold output.
With that said, they still need to nerf Deadeye farming even more.

If you were really trying to finish the event, you wouldn’t be staying on top waiting until the event to end. The effort you put into “completing” the event was nothing. You were just sitting there on top killing the two cauldrons. If you really wanted to finish the event come down to attack the boss at least once.

Why would you want to do Gates of Arah which just rewards a chest and a guaranteed rare, when you can get sooooo much more loot farming the event?

Right, because having commanders in the area tell everyone to stand there and not attack so the champion can stay scaled up is soloable? And I’m sure playing the game the way it was meant to be played also requires people to spam a person insults and threats too? My favorite insult was this guy saying how “My daddy must beat me and [something that can’t be said] every night after I get off the computer.”
Even better, apparently people are now using your account name to post spam in gw2lfg to try and get people to mail/whisper/join you in game. This is the definition of internet harassment.

I really do hate this farming attitude the servers have now.
Maybe I’m just oldschool in this sense, but I preferred farming when it had tons and tons of smaller mobs, and not too many people there. One of my favorite spots to fight in was the Grenth event, where after the champion you were rewarded with more squishy enemies than the game could process. In that 5 minute period I would walk away with so much loot that it filled my inventory, as well as a guaranteed rare. Doing this, you felt accomplished and powerful as a player, and could go do other things afterward since these farms didn’t take up all of your time.
These new farms are just painful. All the players do is gather around this tiny event, and there are so many of them that tab targeting doesn’t even work to find enemies. You spend all of your time being hit by attacks from unknown sources, as you try and pile onto the champions one by one at a chance to get their loot. Because even in a team of 5 people, your chances of getting loot from the champions are slim. Sound doesn’t even play anymore at that point, and most of the farm consists of attacking invisible enemies that you cannot target. In a rush to get the loot, players don’t even rez each other anymore. And should someone actually follow the objectives of the event, it ruins things for everyone and the entire mob because a gigantic festering pile of hate speech.
And they do this event to the exclusion of everything else. When the event isn’t up, all those players do is stand around at the waypoint, waiting for the event to be up. Because of this, I haven’t been able to finish a single temple event in orr, despite soloing them to a point where all this limitless zerg needs to do is run up and squash the overworld boss to get a reward, and they still don’t do it. No, all they do is loiter around, talking about staff guardians.
The worst part is, the entire farm is based around cutting other players off of content. I can understand “doing” something over and over again to get money, but their goal is to prevent everyone from succeeding, prevent everyone from getting the gates of arah boss and achievement, prevent players from using that waypoint. The grinding zerg is assaulting players who are playing the game as intended.
Here is another idea that I found. Probably is the best option that would leave everyone happy.
The best solution I see for this,is to
tie the loot to the completion of the DEs.
-Upon failure:You get some xp, gold and karma
but not the full loot.
-Upon success:You get xp, gold and karma,
and coffers, according to the champs you’ve tagged
and your contribution.
-No coffers directly from champs that spawn on events.
-No coffers upon failure of an event.
I take part in the farm trains, and I am really sorry
for the behavior of some players.
I don’t like letting events fail,and I don’t like
players getting trashed because they are not into farming
the champs.
Yeah I don’t like it either. Anet, do something about those champions because players have become so hostile it’s really sad…to any1 who actually wants to finish those events.
And other events are being ignored now!
Been having the same problems recently Xans. Was trying to get the Arah events completed so I could reach the karma vendor. Just non stop trains of people farming and failing over and over and of the 1-2 of us that would try to complete the event, we would either get yelled at or left to die while others faught around us.
The list of farming events that Anet has nerfed or shut down completely, specifically because they were being farmed the way the ember event is being farmed now, is truly STAGGERING. Seriously. It’s too long to even begin to try to name them all.
So, with that knowledge in mind, knowing full well that they had to step in and put a stop to this type of farming repeatedly, knowing that they were introducing a new type of loot bag that makes killing champions actually worth our time, and you mean to tell me that NO ONE at Anet saw this coming? Even Miss Cleo could have predicted this was gonna happen.
I’m not gonna lie, I loved the ember farm. It’s easy money and it was a fun, fast and furious change of pace to the boring kitten meta event chains I’ve done to death since launch. I will not, however, sit here and try to justify or defend or excuse some of the bullkitten I’ve seen going on now that the champ train zergs have gotten “serious”. As annoying as it may be that people are trying to finish the event chain, harassing people about it is taking it too far.
Come Tuesday the ember event will probably be nerfed into oblivion, the farmers will return to Frostgorge and dungeons, and the psychos inciting the mob will crawl back into their caves.
Honestly, I can’t believe ANet has allowed this to go on as long as they have. I am hoping that Tuesday it is gone, but the lack of Dev responses on this topic makes me wonder if they are concerned about it at all. I’m actually looking forward to the Pavillion being gone as well. The loading times for those two maps is ridiculous.
Someone brought up a really good point in the “concerns of economy” thread in the BLTP sub forum. They said while this plus QG farming are injecting lots of gold, it mitigates the loss of CoF p1 farm. The same people farming 10+ hours a day are the same that were farming CoF p1.
John Smith also brings up the point (in same thread) that the median gold for players participating in the new content (not counting those that made < 1 gold in the time frame) was ~ 3gold.
My guess, the ones you see farming and complaining are mostly those that farmed CoF p1 asking for only 4 warriors/1mes parties, and they’re making roughly the same gold/hour farming the event including vendoring blues/greens but not counting rare/exotics.
To start off I DO like the champ loot system that was recently implemented at the start of the queen’s jubilee patch. However, its becoming a real problem for those of us that want to actually complete events, rather than intentionally failing them so you can farm champions. Most recently on my home server, Dragonbrand, I was trying to complete the Gates of Arah meta event. While trying to break the elemental cauldrons myself and a few others were constantly getting yelled at to stop. Aggressively yelled at, including threats to myself, friends, and family. Something needs to be done about this. A good option would be to limit the number of bags you can get or something. Please ArenaNet look into this.
Why do you want to complete the Gates of Arah meta-event? Just curious. You could guest on a different server to get whatever you need done.
Currently most servers have this meta-event completed due to trolls.
(edited by MajorFauxPas.2364)
The problem here isn’t the players, (playing the way they want), it’s Anet’s poor design that allows this.

I just completed it nearly by myself, when people saw I will kill the champ in time, they joined me and finished it all than.
I don’t fathom why the constant failing is so popular.
On the other hand, I’ve also noticed Cursed Shore, at least on Aurora Glade, is crawling with botters…

Honestly I knew something like this would happen, and I know it’s been said before but far be it for me to not say it again. This sortof thing could have been handled properly with proper testing. PTR would have nipped this in the bud immediately before their testing phase was anywhere near being done.
Now they’ll likely harm the slower paced people by limiting the reward because the fast paced crazies are running around with thousands of these stacks in their inventory already.
Sigh gone are the days when this game was going to be all about enjoying the world and not about worrying if you’ve gotten the max gear set yet, remember how it was going to be? When exotic was the max and it was fairly simple to equip yourself to be effective in everything?….smh
