The whole point of downlevelling players in zones is so that they can experience that content roughly “at-level”, right?

Unfortunately, a great deal of this content is not being experienced. Many (most?) of the mid level zones are almost completely deserted (especially the Charr areas, but that’s probably due to level design). People are grinding for their legendaries, and the only place to do that is Orr – and that means the Cursed Shore.

It makes sense that the area with the most Dynamic Events is where people will go to farm their Karma. What doesn’t make sense is that there’s no alternative.

I would like to go and do DEs in zones I haven’t completed yet, or zones where my friends are levelling. But at present there’s no real incentive to do so. My proposed solution is simple: if I got the same karma (385 base?), experience, and gold for doing a Dynamic Event regardless of zone, I would feel much less penalized for exploring these zones instead of sitting around in Cursed Shore all day. At worst, it would get people out of Cursed Shore and into the other Orr zones…

I think the game would have been better overall if they had not done heart quests at all and just filled every zone with dynamic events, and then additionally done what you are suggesting and make the rewards on-par for your level everywhere. That would have allowed you to go anywhere and do what you want and get the same reward, but as it is I think even if the DE’s in other zones gave the same reward you would still feel compelled to just farm Orr because the density of DE’s is so much higher.

Isn’t that what happens? I get the same DE reward in queensdale compared to Orr

“it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun, rather than having fun”
Guild missions say otherwise.

But not the same Loot drop – you get zone appropriate loot. You are stuck running magic find gear in CS for the added loot drops for the chance at exotic stuff.

What if I want to farm T1 mats in Queensdale with my lvl 80? Not T6 mats.

Yep, Cursed Shore is way too crowded, you’d be lucky to get any loot from the event unless you’re a warrior, ranger, and maybe engineer since I see the flamethrower spam all the time.

You get the same DE rewards in any zone since it is scaled to your level, but loot is based on the level of what you kill. It is similar in WvW – if you kill a lowbie and are lucky enough to get a drop, it is based on your opponent’s level.

Something needs to be fixed with Cursed Shore since tagging has become an event of itself. Actively running around and trying to tag a mob while in a full party sometimes results in only a bronze event completion reward because there are just too many people. Buff the monsters that spawn or better the loot from low level areas.

The lack of level appropriate loot is silly anyway since in full level 80 traits and full exotic gear, the mobs melt away no matter what area you’re in.

I really hope the zerg of 80+ people mobbing one spawn point at an event in Cursed Shore isn’t what Anet had in mind for end game. :/

you can get loot that ranges from lvl 1 to lvl 80 in the 1-15 zones. I have gotten a lvl 79 rare staff before from killing the harpies near the AC dungeon. It is rather rare to get of lvl items but it does happen. Also, you don’t get full karma in lower lvl areas like say the plains of ashford. You get something like 254 per event and 1.2s instead of 386 karma and 1.86s.

OP if they did that then everyone would farm the 1-15 areas with their lvl 80s. You know how easy it is to do events in those zones at lvl 80? My rangers barrage can kill the harpie mobs in 3-4 hits before I even get struck. I have literally finished an event in 30-40secs by myself. There is a reason you don’t get full credit. The devs just need to add a few more 80 zones. 1 lvl 80 zone is not ideal for a server full of lvl 80s.

I don’t believe that everyone would farm level 1-15 zones. Since those events are so easy, as you say, they would be completed very quickly – making sure there aren’t enough DEs to go around if there are a lot of players trying to farm them. The DE chains in lower level zones already spawn much, much slower than those in Orr.

A first fix would be to make Devastation / Malchor competitive in terms of loot/karma/resource efficiency, before applying this world-wide, but there are just so many penalties for going to a lower-level zone (despite the fact that, while easier when downlevelled, it’s still not completely trivial, especially in mid-level zones) that there’s no reason to go anywhere but Orr.

I don’t think they’re talking about crafting materials…

I think having more than 1 lv80 zone is probably the best solution we could hope for, but since we’re on the topic, i wish that quest/boss chest rewards would not only do so at MY level, but also for my profession.

Going through the hassle of completing a tough area is fun and all, but to have found that huge chest, defeated the veteran guarding it, and finding gear that is useless to me is a tad deflating. It kinda minimalizes the reward that is the experience as a whole.

I’ve not reached lv 80 yet, but i am getting close, and i’m not looking forward to my fps dropping due to massive zerg crowds… already happens with Tequatl.

Having two lv 80 zones would help split the population. I suspect we’ll get more zones with an expansion, perhaps Cantha or Elona next, but i doubt that will be for another year or so. Not sure what the turn over rate is for expansions. What i would like to know is whether or not Anet intends to keep the lv 80 cap, or have level raises with each expansion (they didn’t with GW1) like WoW.

With the balancing issues already in the game, i think going past the current cap is impractical. Also, i look forward to when new content DOES eventually come out, and being able to leap right into it without having to grind all over again.
