It’s a close-range attack but you will be able to keep your health up. Dodge away from electricity if it spawns under your feet. Using Feline Grace will let you dodge more.
I have been and still melee on my guard. 2h sword is best for damage but especially now I use my shield and mace to help counter damage done by the electric field. It does alot more damage now (cant stand in it) but I have seen far more unforgiving AOE fields in the game.
The flaw that Anet has never addressed is that the electric field AoE lacks the red ‘rings’ displaying enemy ‘hurt’ fields. This causes problems where a mob of players may be placing combo fields left and right and all you can see are a field of white sprites. On my thief, I could be downed in 2-3 secs under all the color confusion (heck, I’d do better soloing this boss even with all the inquest/golems).
This is not even mentioning the problem for melee players’ view being obstructed by the boss when it ‘crosses’ his arms in front, otherwise they have to stand behind it with a low camera angle and seeing even less of the dangerous ground tiles.
Engineers and rangers with 1500 range weapons can stand right on the edge of the platform. We get knocked off sometimes but that’s all.
Sadly Golem II is bugged on Gunnars Hold and not spawning at all. (Also the Claw of Jormag is bugged half way through phase one and can’t be completed; it’s a bad day for bosses on GH
Attack from the stairs and the golem basically can’t do jack to you.
