Hi everyone, I’d like to know mostly if anoyone knows if the DR kicks in after a set amount of events done / x amount of time / whatever, and what needs to be done to reset it back to normal (like waiting x amount of time).

I’m asking this cause a couple of days ago I was earning like 70 karma per event done, and a guildmate that was in party with me had no DR, both arrived at the zone (straits of devastation) and started chaining at the same time. (we are both 80)

How are you guys farming Karma? specific routes? or just map hopping between Cursed Shore, Malchor’s Pass, Straits of Devastation?

Do you know how much karma he was earning compared to you? That would give us more information to determine if it is a bug or something else

I honestly have not seen this even kick in for me, and if it has I haven’t noticed. I tend to just explore and run into events and not even really check how much I am earning.

I thought I saw somewhere else that there is a 30 minute timer if you are farming the same area/event, but I cannot verify this.

I think it only kicks in if you repeat the same event over and over within this 30 minutes. I do not think it is a zone-wide effect, meaning if you go do another event, that you will not experience a decline in your karma reward.

The baseline Karma per event I was earning was 370 aprox, then it was reduced to ~250, ~170, and finally 70, per event.
The guy in party with me was getting the full 370 per event.
I tried this alone, without being in party and several players were ranting about this via /map chat, that they were having this DR.

So basically farming Karma just sucks cause at least on my server (sorrow’s furnace) the “zerg” is always in straits of devastation chaining events, a couple of players are in Malchor’s Pass doing the Dwayna and Lyssa temples and just a few in the Cursed shore, so the most “efficient” way to farm karma is to follow the zerg in straits.

Do you think this has the potential to eventually force people to spread out so these zergs become less of a problem? If so, we might need to give it more time, and if not, ArenaNet might need to look into the best possible balance if they haven’t begone looking into it already.

Has it stayed at 70 per event? And if it has, how long has it stayed here? How long did it take to go from 370 t0 70?

1) Yes I asumed the same, it’s a way to force the players to explore other areas / maps but I don’t know why I’m being affected with that DR while others not, I’ve stopped farming for almost 1 hour, went to craft some items at Hoel, and when joining the zerg again I spotted two guys that were farming those events, I asked them if they had any kind of DR and both said no.

2) I took like 3 runs to kick in the route was the following:
Giant —> Acolyte of Genth --> Archmage —> Acolyte of Lyssa --> Giant if it was Up again —> Chopper --> Melandru —> Acolyte overlord (I don’t remember exactly his name).
After 3 runs (30~40 mins aprox) the DR kicked in.
When finishing the 3rd run I’ve noticed the decrease in Karma points, and after 1 or 2 events during the fourth run, the karma was fixed at 70.

But other events outside this chain aren’t being affected? I am asking these questions because I am curious about what their rational for this is. If they only punish you for these events you have done 3-4 times and not the others, it is clear to me what they are doing.

Try not touching those event chains for a while, like a few hours, and then going back and doing it. I am certain there is a timer that will begin returning karma rewards to you

Honestly, it doesn’t kick in fast enough. No one ever touches anything outside of the listed events in the zone.

There are dozens of events all over the place, why do people grind?

There are reasons that players grind. Lets say a level 80 player wants a karma armor set. They need a lot of karma (42k per item). To maximize efficiency, they need to be doing high level events. That means they need to be in 4 zones (2 if the player wants to kill level 80 mobs). These zones have many group events and even the non-group events are rather difficult without a group. In addition, a good number of them are glitched. (Right now, over 75% of the events in 3 of these zones are glitched on my server. In the one remaining zone, the player has to be in a small percentage of the zone or they are doing rather low level stuff). Where are they to go?

Where exactly should the player go to diversify the events? While it seems fine and good to get players to do different events, please explain to me how I can get Corrupted Lodestones for weapons without farming 1 single event chain while getting level appropriate drops.

Maybe I’ve missed something, but from what I’ve seen, the amount of content at level 80 only supports grinding. Killing level 80 mobs forces you into dungeons or into 1.1 zones. To get specific drops, you have to kill the mobs in the exact same spot because they don’t exist elsewhere.

I was farming in Cursed Shore so that seems to be my mistake. I assumed because it was the only 80 exclusive map it would be where the most challenging and rewarding content would be. My bad. I should have left when the entire zone kept bugging out.

Honestly, pick a different server. These farming rotations haven’t existed on the two different servers I’ve been on. The solution to this would be to buff the rewards for the rest of the game, not nerf the rewards in one area. I’ve also noticed loot has significant diminishing returns in the same area which really hurts people who are doing longer duration events in the one area.

If you guys have a zerg farming karma that’s lucky for you, my servers have been stifled with people camping three defend events and no-one able to do anything else because a lack of players willing to leave the easy karma.
