Legendary Seekers Punished
The only thing we can conclude is that the code is intended to punish legitimate players, since they’re the only ones who could possibly trigger it. We know that the DR code depends on how fast you complete events, and not on which events, where they are, or which zone they’re in. This means that bots who just sit at the same spot and spam attacks cannot possibly trigger it because the events they complete are so sparse. Real players who do event chains are the only ones who can possibly do events fast enough to trigger this code.
Thanks for the info. That’s even more disheartening. It’s a bitter-sweet night, seeing the first legendarys being acquired. I’m very happy for them and admire their extreme dedication, while simultaneously frustrated and bitter that for unknown reasons Arenanet is punishing those equally dedicated players.
I’m just speechless at what the dev team is doing. Everything is nerfed. God, it makes me want to quit but I’m already more than halfway through legendary.
Why for the love of god is DR here…it makes me want to scream.
In a single night i went from possibly seeing a legendary within less than a month to.. Giving up, i think.. Man, that actually hurts to say. That a company i’ve backed since 2005, and a game i’ve followed avidly for years waiting for it to be released, one which i went to bat for to my friends and convinced them to get in on too, would actually punish me for my dedication. Betrayed really is a good word. If i play more than about 30 minutes, i hit a fun cap that stops me from not only collecting reasonable loot, but karma now too? I probably need a million more karma for my shards and remaining clovers. I’ve sunk hundreds of hours in to get this far, and now a giant block is placed up like this, with no comment on how this helps the security and stability of the game world?
I’m so sorry to those of you who already shelled out more money for boosters that can’t even work their whole duration. I know “it’s just a game” and we should stop whining and all that other QQ mess that this thread will probably draw eventually, but the bottom line is this is important to us, and to shut down the most dedicated players with no explanation and punish those of us who are willing to sacrifice a lot of our time and energy to be here instead of elsewhere.. I just don’t see the sense.
I’d like very much to hear a dev comment on this as well. Till then i guess i’m hanging up my legendary hat. Maybe that’s what they want.
I don’t care about the karma DR but the farming DR and dungeon DR make getting gold an extremely frustrating process. I just wish I farmed as much as possible before they were added. Instead of 2 weeks to get the necessary gold I’m looking at over a month. If you think getting karma is hard wait until you realize how much gold you need.
i dont have full exotics (only have exotic weapons from TP), and i already missed out it seems on getting the good stuff in a timely manner. i guess i played to casually or too slow, and missed out on some great content. kudos and grats to those who plowed through while the getting was good, and benefited (and sitting on fully decked characters).
So this is how I see it. Punish the people who are going for legendarys/full sets (hardcore players) and promote the extension of playing the game for the (casuals.) I am seriously debating continuing my pursuit of twilight, let alone playing in general..yea yea QQ i know.
Lack of any official statement concerning these changes is the most frustrating thing.
Someone from Anet has to explain exactly what this system is, and why it is in place. Right now no one has any idea if it’s meant for botters and working inappropriately, or if it’s meant for legitimate player trying to farm karma as fast as possible. Most people are assuming the latter at this point.

This DR system needs to be explained as mention earlier. This is my first GW games i must say i do love it it has lit a passion for gaming i haven’t had in a long i just started my long road for a legendary i don’t care if it takes me awhile to get it. I understand its the best weapon it takes time but with this lack of karma it takes way more time then is necessary. We deserve some kind of explanation as to why the system is this way who knows it might even stop all the noise about it.
WILL HE DARE MOW US ALL DOWN WITH DEATHS SCYTHE?”
It’s not even the hardcore legendary seekers that are the only ones affected by this. Consider Orr zones, which have NO hearts. It’s all events, and yet they punish you for taking part in more than a couple in a play session.
Doesn’t make any sense.
I don’t really understand what they are attempting to prevent with the current system, if the dimishing rewards would only kick in when you farm the same couple of events over and over, or by finishing multiple events really fast – it would seem as a fair attempt at trying to prevent potential exploiting and botting.
However, in its current form it just punishes people who are attempting to grind karma for the legendary weapons, as well as those who just enjoy doing dynamic events (or participate in the only form of content available in Orr zones).
For example, today I hit the DR till karma was in single digit rewards in 55mins by doing the following events: Escort Fia, Veteran Gorilla, Jofast defense, Shelter defense, Keeper Jonaz escort, Grenth priest (failed), Keeper Jonaz escort, Pact cannon defense, Veteran spider, Gavbeorn’s landing defense, Shelter defense, Champion broodmother, Keeper Jonaz escort, Rakkan escort, Plinx escort, Plinx landing point defense, Free Rakkan, Tar elementals, Plinx escort 2, Champion risen abomination.
With the exception of jumping from plinx landing point defense to free rakkan, I did stay to finish up every event I participated in. Of course, perhaps stating bit of the obvious: I wasn’t there from the beginning on every event and arrived to some of them when they were already close to being finished.
Either way though, if I am being punished after getting 6-7k karma per hour (without a booster) and I am supposed to grind roughly ~1 million karma depending on my RNG luck… Something definitely needs rethinking.
Am I the only one who has yet to hit the DR range?
As someone who jumps from zone to zone farming dragons and events and gathering as much as possible. I have yet to hit the DR Karma or drop rate range.
I have followed the zerg in SoD several times and I didn’t even hit the DR range.
Am I missing something?
Seems like they had 2 choices once they were forced to go ahead and push out an unfinished game. Adjust the spawn and drop rates or punish players to run them off. I think we all know what happened.
The lack of response only says one thing: Working as intended.
Face it, they really don’t want you to be able to do anything for extended periods of time.. including leveling, getting gold, running DE’s, Getting karma, having fun.
I have try’d to force myself to play, thinking if i just do it it will get better, but i have also given up my ambitions of getting a Legendary. Partly because i might get it and have no-one to play with because everybody else left.
I have just spent 40 dollars in a cash-shop of another company and will be playing that game now, they let me play how i want to (time = progress, not arbitrary limitations).
So sad since Arenanet has made some really radical changes to what is expected from a MMO. Sadly they are pioneers finding out all the things that don’t work too. I will likely still play very casually here and there, but my loyalty is gone.
What you guys do is up to you .. enjoy the game if you are, please don’t let others tell you what to think.
Although I haven’t been able to put in the time that some of you have, I sympathize. In their pursuit of “fairness.” they’ve taken it away from the most dedicated players. That’s wrong.
My biggest fear since BWE1 has been that they don’t care enough about the hardcore players, seemingly suggesting that hardcore players ruin casual players’ fun, that being able to put in more time than others is unfair. Seems like well keep continuing that trend.

…
(time = progress, not arbitrary limitations).
Yeah, I fear you’re right. Arbitrary is also a key word here. ArenaNet is forcing me to play in a way completely unnatural way – why? Why do they insist on dictating how I play?
Why? If you become excellent at completing dungeons they don’t stop rewarding you for fighting in dungeons after 20 minutes. If you become a stellar WvW or structured PvP player they don’t stop giving you rewards after 20 minutes. Why punish event players? Couple this with how much this amplifies the already monstrous amount of time it takes for a legendary and I just want to quit.
I wont be bothering with a legendary from now on, and I most certainly wont be giving them anymore money via gems etc. until this is resolved.
From these posts I understand how you feel as I am also in the process of making a legendary. I have a full time job, I have 2 weekends off a month and I spend one of those weekends working on a farm. My play time is very limited. Probably 2-3 hours a night at most and about 20-30 hours a week at max.
Lets put it into this perspective. If the DR was already patched before the legendary hunts there would be no issues or possibly even before the game was released. However, it was patched after the legendary hunts began and so everyone now has issues and complains about no longer wanting to do it.
Therefore, people are coming up with this," You are making me play this way" argument. Now if Anet had implemented it before it released it, you would not be saying this. However, they did it later as the game progressed.
The game is working as intended now but people don’t like it.
I fear I throw this out 30 times a day. As a gamer, we have always played the game on how the game designer or in this case Anet visioned the game to be. We, as gamers, play by their rules and follow them and if we don’t like them we leave and play other games. Its very simple. However, as a gamer, we have always been able to adapt, adjust and move on and so changes in game are common, just as real life changes, we get over it and move on. That is how we have beaten games since the dawn of the AtaRi.
As a gamer, I find this new change to be extremely phenomenal in a bad way, but at the same time I realize, yes I like it like this. It may be painstakingly, heartbreaking, mind-numbingly hard but when I sit down and think about it carefully I DO NOT want every other joe-smoe who has 300 hours to play with no skills in farming or playing to be able to get this legendary cause then everyone else will just have it too at one point or another making this legendary, not very legendary, like WoW where every joe-smoe of no skill-level to elite players having one.
Therefore I find it even more worth my time to farm something that requires a true gamer to receive something of legendary status. If you want to join me as a gamer in the club of “Elite Farmers” you can continue forging your legendaries regardless the changes. If, you feel this change is too great and has crushed your hopes and whatever is left of your weakittentle heart, then by all means, stop.
However, do not band-wagon people to make the legendaries worthless when logically, Anet has tripled the value of your legendary. Your legendary is now A LEGENDARY cause all the joe-smoes have been weeded.
The legendaries are now truly befit to those who truly deserve it only.
However, they need to fix some of the legendaries. They don’t look too threatening or legendary by my standards. ;d
