Maw needs a revamp.
Hello, everyone. I hope all is well.
I’d like to start off by saying this is a NEW issue. I’m not sure what caused it, but whatever.
When I started a few months ago, Maw was nice, not too many people, it moved at a nice pace, everyone got their share of kills in. Hell, more times than not I was able to get GOLD in every single part, including the weak guys who spam to the right that usually die in seconds.
Recently, however, I’m getting bronze on the 1st part (Protecting the town), the 2nd part (Escorting him to the shrine), and not even ranking on the weak guys. This is due to a huge increase in people participating in the event.
I have NO issue with more people in the event, that’s awesome, this game is about team work, after all.* My issue is that it doesn’t scale like other events do.* In most events the more people participating, the more mobs spawn. This event doesn’t follow this pattern, and when you have a lot of level 80s swooping in and 1 hitting mobs, it is almost impossible to tag anything.
I really do think it needs to be reworked to follow the same pattern as the other events.
Thank you for your time, hopefully the masses agree, and hopefully this is fixed.:]
I wholeheartedly agree. I’ve noticed the same things breaking down in this event. Today when I ran it the Grawl were so overwhelmed that the few that spawned barely had time to hop a few bounces before evaporating in a cloud of AoE.
Love the event but if it continues to be as well attended it will need some adjustment. More mobs, maybe simultaneous attack during the grawl stage rather than alternating directions. That in itself just creates a back and forth tide of players swooping from one side to the other.
I agree with this. I have started using the events in this area to quickly level my alts and there are not enough mobs for the number of people there. I do usually get at least silver so that hasn’t been a problem but its hard to even tag the mobs as they are overwhelmed by the number of people. It’s a fun area and great for leveling alts so I wouldn’t want it nerfed in some way to discourage people from being there.
It started when the laurels/daily patch dropped. Not only does MAW give good loot, but it also provides you 5 quick events to get your dailies.

Yup this is the reason, and exactly where i go for my daily events.
last night I got no credit even for last boss…
seems to me this event was nerfed in a meaning that you need to show way more DPS to get participation credit.
with like 50 or more guys making boss die in less then 1 min it’s just impossible.
SO please get us initial MAW back and why not add DE like that in all areas? or idea is too good?
P.S. rhetorical question: if you don’t want us farm, why not give us waaaaayyyyyy more to do + best rewards? or if we have nothing much to do as 2-3 DE + some Orr DE (high lvl only), and 2-3 dungeons, why blame us to doing them and nerf like last pleasure we still have?
Ive noticed alot more noobs is wayfarer who like to split farm the event for some reason. I guess Anet has sold some more GW2 copies lately. If this happened in Orr, Im pretty sure someone would literally hunt the split farmer down and kill them. I can usually micro to get gold for most, only bit I struggle to get both rewards for are the shaman + guards event that comes up at the same time. I either get a gold or two bronze.
Almost 800 views and only 7 replies. Cmon, guys. More people that agree, the more likely the Devs will notice.
Last time I did I got impression it was corrected, or credit comes just random, I mean if you did critical you got it.
I guess for increased number of players, more mobs need to be added, so all guy can have credit.
Shamans and Guards can come one after other instate same time.
P.S. I was told this event is bugged again in many servers.
Just did this event chain for the first time today. Got like 3 silvers and the rest gold. I had to do HB constantly to get enough damage for a medal.
I agree it would have probably been impossible for me to tag anything if I wasn’t wayyy over level.
There just aren’t enough mobs spawning to ‘tag’ and the events aren’t scaling well enough for the amount of people that are playing them.
It started when the laurels/daily patch dropped. Not only does MAW give good loot, but it also provides you 5 quick events to get your dailies.
Also a good way to get your dodge dailies at the end of the event with the snow tornadoes as they linger once the boss has died
Once the portals and shamans and guards spawn, they are over leveled according to how many players are there – their max level is 14 (3 levels higher than you). All other parts of the event chain the monsters (grawl assault, protect section, and the Shaman guy himself (norn & elemental phase)) are level 10.
The boss should be scaled up like the rest of the monsters in that part of the event. All other parts of the event – assault and protection phase should have higher spawn rates than current.
Whether you solo or have a huge group, the assault on Krennek’s Homestead has exactly the same amount of grawl. The protection phase goes from 4 (solo) to 8 grawl in the initial fight on the lake, same amount for both at the Svanir cave where they come from, and the icebrood that spawn on the lake at the end are 4 each portal (solo) and 6 or 8 max with a level of 10-14.
You have to consciously fail this event, there is no possibility that a group can fail as even at it’s highest level you can solo it (as a ranged character at least) since the spawns are only level 14.
But, as a low level non-equipped player it can be more difficult.
The only thing that makes it even a slight challenge for higher level characters is when the icebrood at the portals are level 14 and some squishy engineer thinks they can take them all on and ends up running the train back to the group and dies right in front of you.
The other issue is that the Shaman himself in either form is still level 10 no matter how many people are playing the event, he should scale as well and he really does need more skills in his elemental form.
Shaman form he has 2 ranged skills that pack a punch even for a necro, but when he enters his elemental form he has 2 melee skills that can sometimes one hit you. But in his elemental form, he has a standoff distance that is outside of the range of his AOE ‘hulk smash’ skill so ranged players only have to deal with the falling ice and tornadoes while rezing melee players.
The falling ice and tornadoes are easily countered by standing in certain places that never get hit, the tornadoes should move around (sorry, it had to be said). Falling ice should happen more often and be in more random locations.
And you’re not ‘WAY OVERLEVELED!! OMG!!’ you simply have all your equipment which a level 1-15 will not have at all. You have your trinkets, all pieces of your armor, the stats you actually want and not whatever you can get that has bigger numbers than what you had. All your stats are beneficial to the build you’ve made, you got your traits all set as well which a level 1-15 may have just figured out they can do stuff with them now.
You’re level 11 in that event, just like everyone else – except for the random level 6 that ran up there past all the monsters, you know that guy, the one you got your daily healer achievement from!
I level up all my character on the Maw, it’s no different at level 10 than it is at 80 except that at lower levels I don’t have access to almost all of my stuff.
Anyway, it’s tough enough, but it doesn’t exactly level up in all parts properly for the amount of participants.
