Yesterday I was trying to complete the Bosses achievement-Kill the Hydra Queen so I went to Laughing Gull Island (Bloodtide Coast) with my guild for the meta event.
First we killed the Risen captain, and after 10 minutes, the Lionguard ship came. The meta event then started and we killed Taidha Convington. However, some of my guildmate got the achievement but i haven’t get it so i went there again.
But after I killed the risen captain again and waited for 30 minutes, the ship still not come and the risen captain respawn again. Seems that i cannot trigger the meta event.
I search in the net but haven’t find any information about this meta event. So I create this post and hope someone can answer my 2 question.

1. Is the risen captain related to the meta event?
2.Is there any npc or pre-event for triggering the meta event?

Hope someone can share his/her experience about this meta event. Thanks a lot!

Me and my guild have been trying to figure this out as well, we’ve been killing the Risen Champion Captain and quite soon after he was killed nothing would spawn. So we assumed it just appears out of nowhere because we even tried doing all dynamic events on the Bloodtide Coast map in hopes to trigger it somehow, with no success. I don’t think the Risen Captain is even related to the meta event and as for NPC or pre-event, I have yet to find anything.
I really hope someone from ArenaNet can post here to clear this up for us.

Risen Captain is not directly related to Meta Event, but it will prevent the Meta Event from starting if not killed

Afaik, there are no triggers, only a timer (no idea what)

! thing to notice is the 2 NPCs in the camp at nw bay (where ship will spawn). Those 2 NPCs will start the escort event that ends with the Risen Captain. Once you kill the Captain, those 2 NPCs will respawn at their camp, and sometime later the escort will repeat itself. This will go on until Meta Event timer is over. So, if the 2 NPCs do NOT reappear at their camp, that means the Meta Event is close.

The 3 times I done it, once the Meta Event started in 20 minutes (after NPCs vanishing), another in 30, and the last 1 the Meta Event refused to start in almost 2 hours (had to leave then)

it is quite terrible that this meta event cannot be triggered and the timer is not consistent. Hope to know more about it…I just need hydra queen to complete my bosses achievement…

Anyone know if this event needs critical mass of players? Me and two others cleared the Risen Captain thrice and the 2 npcs disapeared and then waiting. I waited with them for 2-3+ hours for the event to progress and nothing. They left and I’m still waiting.

I’ve been in the area of this Meta Event now for nearly six hours. Killed the Risen Captain 4 hours ago so I suspect that it has no bearingo n the meta event. Getting really really bored and impatient now but I know as soon as I leave this event will spark into life.

Anyone any idea on how frequently this event comes around?

One more event with unclear conditions to launch, it seems true that once the undead champion is dead and a sufficient time has gone by since the previous the previous time the queen was confronted that the event will launch however knowing when the event will trigger is almost impossible so finding players to beat the undead champion on the off chance the rest of the chain will have reset is hard.

I’ve been sitting at the bay of the island for 5 hours now, we did the risen group event at the start of my 5 hour wait. When we finished that, the ship went away, and nothing happened. Im still waiting here, nothing is happening at all.

Does anyone have any info yet on how to get this event to spawn??

The most terrible point is I killed the risen captain and after 30 minutes it respawn again. Even we killed it again, the Lionguard ship still not come. Due to the impatience, we all left.
Maybe this meta event is bugged? Can any Anet worker answer this question?

It took me two days to do the hydra event. I am positive that the event is not bugged.
Here’s how I’ve done it. I killed the risen captain, the two npcs went to their location and stayed there for some time and the same event repeated. I killed the risen captain again but this time a new npc came which started the meta event.

I beleive the risen captain is not directly related to the meta event but It will indeed block the initiation of the meta event. Your best bet is to keep killing the risen captain until the hydra event chain begins.

After a week trying to trigger the event and many, many hours wasted on that kitten island, we finally managed to spawn Taidha!
And there was much rejoicing, at least until a few minutes later when we killed her and only 1 of us got the achievement.

I listened to some suggestions I read here in the forum and I manage to trigger this event fast, at my first try… I don’t know if I was lucky or what.
I went to Laughing Gull Island and the Champion Risen Captain was there. I ask my guildies to come there and 6 of the arrived. We killed the Risen Captain while some other players in the zone were joining us and then, as I read there, we waited for the Lionguard Ship to arrive (I think we were 10-15 players on the island waiting… I don’t know if it was necessary for the critic number).
It took just 10 minutes, and then the meta-event started. I told to the other guild mates to come, but some of them, who arrived at the end of the meta-event (just before Hydra Queen spawn) didn’t get the achievement. The ones who was there from the beginning of the meta-event instead got the achievement without any problems.
Hope this could help the people trying to get this achievement!

I’ve just got my achievement. It was awesome, because I had to encourage a lot of people to kill the champion risen captain twice. After this, the event chain started with a little delay. It wasn’t easy to keep these sceptical guys and ask for patience

I’d like to add a request to the developers that this meta event chain not be dependent on the Risen Captain being killed. I’m finding it very difficult on my server, in my guild or on the map, to get people who are willing to do one group event and then wait around indefinitely for another, even if there is an achievement associated with it. It is the last boss achievement I have left and spending all this time recruiting and/or standing around and waiting is tedious and boring, not fun.

i just waited around for ages for this to start, killed the risen captain twice. was there for the whole event, got gold reward and the chest, but guess what? no achievement.

huge disappointment. i expect it’s because i personally didnt do enough ‘damage’. that’ll teach me to help rez downed people.

they have to sort this.

Finally managed to complete this chain and got the achievement. We had to kill the Risen Captain 3 times. We then had to find the merchant in the area that helps start the chain. When we got her up, she proceeded to go in the water and the chain began. You’ll need a group of 5+ for that Risen boss though, he can be a pain due to the adds and close quarters. It helps to pull him out of the basement if possible.
