Mini map markers in DE when not grouped
Two nights ago I completed a DE alone and a new DE spawned that was meant for a group. I bugged out of there after rallying and figured there was no one around so I went on my way. A few minutes later I got ‘credit’ for participating in the DE. I’m as much a fan of free exp/karma/gold as the next guy but I would love to have actually participated. If I had known there were others around I would have stuck it out and tried to get to where they were in order to work together.
My suggestion: When a DE begins and the program decides who is present and counting toward completion, place them in the mini-map so that a little coordination can happen even if there is no grouping. If there are more than 10, which seems to be the threshold I keep seeing, then place nine of them in my map, or even the ten the program is counting at that moment.
This would be a great indicator to let us know when we are part of an event rather than just passing through. It seems a reasonable stop gap to the overcoming the lack of ‘raid’ groupings. And finally, it would help with events that have multiple objectives as we would be able to determine where to best place our efforts. If there are nine people on my mini map and two of them are guarding the north entrance while seven are concentrating on the south, I now know where I can best lend a hand. If there are 10 people crowded around the Priest of Grenth, maybe someone would realize they ought go take on the Shades. The examples are numerous.
That’s an interesting idea. Maybe if you had to click on the event notification on the UI to have this. If it had a spot on it that says, doing event-show others in area also doing event (who also clicked on the UI). If you didn’t click on it, you would do the event just as now but wouldn’t see other’s dots on the minimap and you also don’t show up on theirs. This would allow people to opt in or out as they prefer and people who are just passing thru wouldn’t show up.
What I’ve thought about is pulsing the event icon if people are actually there. If you’re close enough to see the full event notification in the UI, you might see that a bar is moving anyway, but if you’re in the meta event range, all you see is the map icon. It’d be nice to know before I trek halfway across Mount Maelstrom if anyone is actually fighting the champ golem to start Megadestroyer, for instance.
