No rares from regular chest?

You only get a chance of rares from big chests dropped on the ground.
It happened the same with me since the patch of ‘SAB’, but not just that, my glob rate was lowered too, but friends keep saying its bad luck but…who knows?!
Just poor luck. I’ve had days where every dragon chest gave me all green items, and days where I’ve gotten 2 rares out of one chest. The important thing is that you get the promised rare via the daily bonus chest.

I very rarely (lol) get rares from chests. For anything short of exotics I’m better off farming mobs (for exotics I’d go to fractals, but only if I didn’t intend to sell them).
Bad luck. Of course, no one ever posts on the forums whenever they have good luck and get 3 rares from the chest..

This. What’s the point of making stuff like chests if we can have a lot better by killing 2 or 3 mobs in the way to it ?
Imo chests should always contain some items so important that they actually need to be put in a chest.
Followind the ranks of these chests, they should contain blue-green for the lowest quality to rare-exotics for the highest quality ones (at least the chests in the open world, dungeons chests in another subject)
- If you think it would be too easy rewards, make the events a bit harder (not impossible as some are since the update).
- If you think people would farm these chest events like it was with the “1 gold worldboss chests”, just make the events cd longer (this would make stronger the feeling of players to accomplish something huge and usefull too, by the way).
PS : If you think people should not try to farm, well, this is human nature : people have the needs to be rewarded for what they do. This reward can not only be the “fun of playing” (if you think that, it’s a bit pretentious, since the content is not actually “awesome” enough to be a reward as itself).
So they need gold, good items etc. When they find some way to make gold, yes, they will tend to repeat this, obviously. If you want to fight that, well, the best way is to add content that will either provide players other ways to earn what they need, or be fun enough to fulfill their needs.
So to conclude, i’d say that reward is the key, and adding/changing content is one way to it.

That’s the point, it’s RNG. But RNG doesn’t mean anything by itself. The thing that matters is how the probabilities are set.
Of course we can loot exotics on chests, even precursors (for the luckiests). But the fact is that the chest loots median is way too low.
As you said, you never saw a single rare before. This is just not normal. When you open a chest, you should expect to find some sort of treasure (not always a gold or an exotic, but the chances should be good). Othewise, what’s the point putting the items in a chest ?
And also, what’s the reward for taking part of a world event. Imo “world events” should be rarer, more random and a lot more entertaining and rewarding.
That’s what people expect of world events in a mmo game.

You can’t forget, you do get a rare every time you complete a world boss. Which is more than it used to be. Perhaps ANet should just put the rare back into the demonic chest to make it more appealing and satisfying when opening the chest. People tend to forget that little chest at the bottom right of their screen.

If I stop doing dragon chest events for a while, I seem to get a higher incidence of rares when I start again. If I’ve been doing a few, days in a row, I get to the point where I get one rare out of perhaps 3 chests.
Then again, I got a chest yesterday that had three rares, plus the bonus rare inbetween a stretch of four green/blue chests…. Just a lucky anomaly with RNG, I assume.

It’s possible that DR is more complicated than we tend to believe. When players talk about diminishing returns it’s usually because we think of it as a punishment, which kicks in and makes our loot (or other stuff, like karma) worse than normal. But there’s no reason they couldn’t also have it set up so that when you do something you’ve not done in a while, it actually has a better chance than ‘normal’.
But then, again, how can chests have so poor loots as a basis ?
