I logged into the game not too long ago, and out of curiosity, went to Sparkfly fen to see if Tequatl was attacking. I was able to get on my main server (DragonBrand) and noticed that the fight had JUST started. So I ran towards the fight to join in.
But as soon as I get TO Teq, I find that there is nobody else there. Not a soul. I am LITERALLY the only person there. (Don’t believe me? I took screens!)

I’m sorry, but there is a problem here in my opinion. Is Teq just too hard now, or do people just not care anymore?

Also: here are my screens

I hope this isn’t a sign that Anet is loosing sight for who their customers are …

The same ‘approach’ to reward vs. risk was taken for the new Aetherblades dungeon run in TA as well … Anet please notice how this is working out.

Sorry to tell you, but this topic seems to be opened in a new thread approx. 2x per week, just scroll down…

Yes, Teq. is sort of abandoned. It takes a mass of people to join the event and that sometimes requires hosting to a different server (too much fuzz) and if you happen to plan on joining an organized fight, you need to come 1 hour pre-start to sparkfly in order to not be thrown into the overflow upon entering the instance. I tried it 2x one time I managed to join on time and we still failed…obviously this event isnt catered for a casual player but is more of a massive 100 man semi-hardcore player zergfest. Dont get me wrong, people sometimes organize and maybe suceed doing it, just check the forums and if you are comfortable with this kitten of an event, do it.

to be honest, a lot of us don’t think anet has a clue what they are doing anymore, they have threads in the forums called collaborative development asking for our input but we think they are just looking for ideas cause they have run out, this game was supposed to be a pvp based game, but it isnt, its mostly pve based, then they said they were gonna cater to the casuals, but now it looks like they are gonna start catering to the hardcores as they are gonna start revamping all the dragons like teq, so, anet, is this game for casuals, or hardcores? Is it pvp or pve, or both? Or none of the above?

The requirements are ridiculous. To get this event now you can’t be some casual player who joins in when it starts, you have to be a member of a guild that does this event as it’s reason for existing (and those who are already in 5 guilds can’t unless they drop one). You then have to guest to the right server. You have to get there way ahead of time as the spawn window is so long, which means you will be in that area for one to two hours instead of playing where you want. You have to be able to get into the overflow that your guild is getting into. And then you better have enough people, at least 80 people, and no one getting on the turrets and trolling by refusing to use it.

I actually liked the event a bit so I went back not too long ago to see how things were going but like you not a soul there. I haven’t bothered to go back since.

Hopefully something changes and Teakettle becomes popular again.

Answer: No. Aside from that guild made just for fighting this boss, my impression is that the majority of players simply avoid Tequatl the Sunless, as it’s not worth the time and effort anymore.

We stood there and did maybe 1% damage to him! I was so amazed. I then logged out.

And even the TTS Sellers don’t bother to post in these threads anymore about how great ans easy this all is ..

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

It consumes more time than 2, 3 or even 4 dungeons depending on how long you parked your toon waiting.

Its not worth it, and the randomness on its success (since it depends entirely on the quality of random players around you) makes it a waste of time unless they place it as a guild event.

Someone pick up the phone cause i kittening called it.

Even after the nerf, the reward/effort ratio was still complete bullkitten. Making unrewarding and challenging content is fun for the people who like the challenge, for about 2 or 3 times.
Then it loses its shine. Without a proper reward people wont keep comming back to such an event. It got stale, and its just not worth their time.

Nerf the encounter to make it doable for pugs in an overflow, buff the loot drop so people dont feel like it was worth the time they spend. Or be prepared to toss the event entirely.

ANet definitely does need to adjust Tequatl so he scales better for less people. I fought the Shatterer for the first time earlier this week. Even though it took us till 2:50 on the clock to beat him, there were still new people rolling in throughout his attack, with some people taking up position at the mortars/cannons because they could see that things were well in hand.

That’s what I think the Tequatl encounter should be like. It’s still possible to fail it, but it’s also easy enough that people know they can show up late, contribute and still have a good chance of winning. Tequatl is largely ignored because of the reasons Astral mentioned:

1. You need a critical mass of people to attend or there is NO chance of victory. This means that people tend to show up, see too few people around, and leave again, resulting in a vicious cycle.

2. Getting into a map with sufficient people AND the coordination necessary to win usually means you have to show up 30 mins – 1 hour early, and then wait for another 15 mins to an hour for Teq to spawn. Players don’t want to spend almost 2 hours waiting for one event for rewards they could get by running a dungeon or two.

3. Success is far from guaranteed. I’ve been in TTS overflows where we still failed to win. Players don’t like spending that time waiting for Teq only to get a piddling reward for their efforts.

Teq is perfectly fine as it is, it’s a world boss, you need to be organised and prepared to kill it. This fight is the best fight in the entire game. World bosses should not be free lootbags, there are many other ways to farm and for creatures of this magnitude it isn’t reasonable to expect to down it every time you do it, or to even take it down with fewer people. Tequatl is something that brings your server together, and in order to do it you need to engage with others in your server and organise it. FSP kills it every day now. It’s not that hard when you get people that care about this amazing experience rather then the achievements and loot and then bug off.

All the dragon fights should be like this.

If you are looking for a cozy mature Dutch guild (EU) let me know.

People wanted challenging content.

By the nature of it (TA) being challenging, of course not many people can or will do it. Just look at how many players actually raid in WoW.

Just look at how many players actually raid in WoW.

Umm… most of them? There are 3 difficulty levels of raiding in WoW: Heroic, Normal and the Raid Finder tool. Not to mention that there is a proper raid interface (even for the open world bosses).

If comparing open world bosses from WoW, then I can tell you (played WoW for couple years) that they are just as easy as Jormag or Shatterer are in GW2. Even Blizzard knows that you cannot make an open world boss at the same difficulty level as an instanced raid boss. And, like I mentioned before, you have a good GUI for open world bosses there.

All the dragon fights should be like this.

How often does your server kill Tequatl each day? Once after reset? If so, that’s still not a solution to the problem. What about players who, due to work/school/sleep, just can’t get on at that time?

The bigger servers like Blackgate or Tarnished Coast still take down Teq fairly frequently after reset, but if you try visiting him at any other time you’re out of luck. Something’s seriously wrong if, even on the most populated servers, showing up to a World Boss at any other time greets you with a completely dead zone.

Also, you can be organised and prepared with less people. Nothing says that you shouldn’t be able to kill Tequatl with, say, 4 turret operators, 3 defenders on each side, and an additional 10 people attacking Teq directly. Everybody knows their role and what to do, so why should they be denied victory just because they’re 60 people short? If anything, I’d say that’s MORE challenging because you know you have less room to screw up; you don’t have the protection of the zerg to help revive you/cover up for your mistakes.

They keep beating around the bush instead of putting in raids. Ten man instanced raids would be perfect for this game yet they claim it would split the community when it’s already split between hardcore and casual players.

It’s also split between WvW and PvE’ers. I personally don’t see the problem in putting a 10 man raid in; i’d certainly find it more interesting than a 5 man dungeon.

All of the above stated reasons made me abandon Teq after 3-4 kills.

crappy RNG with crappy rewards for the time and effort required

map/overflow problems

AFKers or people with Down’s Syndrome (and I actually have great respect for people with Down’s Syndrome, just not the ones that dont have it but behave like they do) in or near turrets that make extra champs spawn causing the encounter to fail

etc. etc.

I would love to see this as a guild triggered raid instance that scales between 30-80 people (with 80 max allowed in map or instance), and with appropriate rewards.

Likewise with all the other world bosses that are going to get redesigned in a similar manner.

Was just on TC for the first spawn after reset (I guess he’s still up now in fact) and there was absolutely no one there. TC used to at least get a kill a day after reset, but now even we don’t bother it seems.

What a complete waste of an event.

It isn’t abandoned. A larger force compromising of all the servers was created by players to kill Tequatl. In a way it takes away from the “server pride” some might say, but your servers already have that chance and doing any more kills of tequatl isn’t going to promote it.

It’s simply better to have a small group of people organise this event (it’s done nearly around the clock) and let everyone else enjoy the other aspect of GW2. The price? 1 guild slot.

What the event failed at creating a server fight, it made up in in the fact that it built a community that spans multiple servers (TTS now does more than just Teq and they plan on more stuff).

Of course the biggest annoyance is still the fact that you could wait up to 2 hours to do the fight. I doubt it will change until Anet implment a raid system and then allowing raid leaders to join/create an overflow.

I’d much rather they fixed it so it scaled with less people, than have to jump through hoops to enjoy open world content. I love the event, but seriously, having to join a special guild to do so is not something I want to do.

This can be fixed, I’m sure.
