Orr: One More Jumps the Ship
It’s like the constant buffing and nerfing in WoW.
First, Anet redesigned the priest of Grenth, making it challenging, but still soloable (especially easier for engi, necro, and ranger). Some ppl got discouraged from participation.
Then, they buffed the reward so much that we saw zergs doing Grenth with rez rushing.
In April, The cleansing part of Grenth got buffed so much that most ppl stopped doing Grenth.
Then in May, Jonez’ armor got buffed to about 60% damage reduction, and the priest event became ridiculously easy to solo, but most ppl had been too demoralized by the April patch to even bother.
Now they nerfed the champion wraith and we start to see some ppl doing this event again.
What a cycle.
Yeah, Champion Risen Spider is not to be taken lightly. Its attacks are dodgeable, but you have to watch its body movements long enough to know when.
Didn’t know about all these recent buffs, i was one of those demoralized by the april patch to get there again. The last 5 times i tried it we failed badly and all the people i managed to gather were from 6 to 8. There are no more the zergs of a time, even because all you do that for is th precursor and lately i haven’t seen anyone receiving one from temples.
The Champion Risen Spider is so stupid right now. It can glue eggs to everyone around it, the eggs hatch Veteran Risen Spider Hatchlings and the scaling gives both champion and veteran an insane health pool and damage. I daresay it’s the strongest enemy in the game right now.
Alatum Interitum
I’m not really complaining about the Champion Spider by itself, I know it takes a bunch of players to take one down when we’re doing the Melandru event for example and even still, it takes long to die and is really annoying.
What I’m really bugged is what does the genius who designed this pile of kittens thought when he balanced the Grenth event to always spawn that spider (and I won’t even comment on the Risen Wrath) when there’s THREE players in the area?
“Oh this event must be tough… let’s see, if there’s one or more players in the area, spawn a Champion Risen Spider. Good, that’s it! Gosh, I love spiders.”
I bet it’s the same guy who designed only nobles to appear during Warmaster Chan’s escort event, making it fail miserably more than 90% of the time with their Symbols insta-killing NPCs.
Really, that’s pure genius… making events frustrating enough so players don’t even bother with it anymore.
What I really hate about the spider is that the veterans it spawns count as its minions or something, so no loot, not even stacks for sigils or ‘on kill’ effects like my virtue resetting on guardian, they’re just a swarm of dull mindless HP to beat through. I’m honestly not even sure they deal damage. The things sit around wasting our ability to see important stuff and take longer to die than most mobs in the zone, longer even than the risen spawned by the event, and yet they’re worth… nothing. Why do they even exist?

Before they used to give a ton of loot (and lots of dust), thus making them very profitable to farm.
You know that Arenanet doesn’t want you to earn gold right? Hurts their gem sales.
So they introduced that spider ‘fix’ to prevent farming.

A Veteran spider back at one of the Camps was also spawning what were obviously Veteran Hatchlings… I commented that makes no sense… and someone else nearby said, “Yeah, usually Veteran implies having lots of Experience”. How do hatchlings have that kind of experience? I think the simplest answer is they DON’T and Anet needs to revert this entire mechanic — until they can get a better baseline for scaling. (IE: start off with events made for Duo’s b/c that’s all you’re going to see in these zones now most of the time until they find a way to merge more servers back into one)

If that’s true then why haven’t they nerfed COF yet?
It’s causing more inflation faster than Orr farming ever did…

It’s harder to fix a dungeon, I find. Also, it only really gets ‘exploited’ by wars/mesmers so it’s not going to influence the whole economy since it leaves other classes behind (not everyone can afford to lvl a new 80 in full zerk gear)

The dungeon gives you the gear as you’re doing it so it’s not a cost issue and even if it was, it’s only about 8g to fully EXO for that anyway (assuming you’re a thrifty shopper/crafter).
Hell I did Arah in mostly Rares and completely carried other PUGers through CM & AC in rares. They’d have to be really bad players to keep failing COF just b/c they didn’t have ‘the perfect gear score’ …Grenth & Balth are a lot harder to just faceroll over… even with a big zerg …infact the bigger it is, the more likely you are to die to stuff that’s not even rendering.
