Orr gameplay is awful
They nerfed Plinx spawn time… expect the zerg to spread a bit more now.
there is a RD on events allready.. why are people so enlightend.
SPent 45 minutes cleansing the temple of Melandru. Got 4 blues and a yellow gem. I could do the same amount of work in the same amount of time for a guaranteed rare and much more loot by running AC.

I don’t know what the solution is but having 50-60 invisible culled people killing mobs within half a second of when they spawn at pre-determined locations that are being bombarded with AOE damage in anticipation of when the mobs spawn is just awful gameplay. There is nothing remotely epic about it. Right now arriving in Orr is a massive shock for a new player who is used to a game that is actually a game not whack-a-risen.
They need to find some way to incentivize people to spread out over the whole map instead of just farming 1-2 events over and over. Diminishing returns by event would make sense, as well as a stacked karma bonus for completing different events within a given time period. I.e. a +10% karma gain for each unique event finished within a 1 hour period.
You’re actually going to ask for more DR?
You have just lost friends. Fail thread.
They want to incentive for people to spread out in orr? get rid of the ridiculous respawn timers. Get rid of the knockdowns, stuns, and the like that get chain spammed by numerous mobs. Spread the actual mobs out some.

Reduce mobs in certain areas. Being a necro repeatedly pulled back into mobs by numerous spectral grasps is insane. The mob pile just kept growing.
Other times l’ve managed to solo around there, but last night….
Was with my guardian friend too, we just get sick of it. Sick of risen, sick of the same mobs over and over. Sick of crap drops from Arah event, Dragon events.
Anyway, after a couple of hours in Orr last night. He logged, l went and played alt. It’s just too much, too boring.
New areas and content won’t improve it.
The things mentioned above are why no one will take a WP near an event and attempt to catch up to the zerg.
Because the only way to catch up is to run past things. When you get cc to hell and die half the time, count me out.
I’ve just spent the last 5 hours or so on Malchor’s Leap. I’m normally not one to complain but WHAT A FESTERING PUSHOLE OF MAP!
First of all, the biggest problem, there’s no one here. I’m on Kaineng which is thinly populated as is but the endgame players that do go to Orr do not want to spend a minute longer on this map than is strictly necessary. Everyone just goes to Cursed Shore or Straits instead and who can blame them. Those maps are more fun, more rewarding and, for me at least, considerably more manageable than this one.
So I have to solo. Normally not a problem. I’m level 80 ranger with rare gear and a pretty decent player so most groups of Risen don’t actually bother me that much. Even when I get 6 on me at a time, I can usually beat them.
What I cannot beat however is a Veteran Subjugator, a Veteran Abomination, a Veteran Air Elemental and about 9 regular risen ALL OF WHOM are guarding a communing skill point that also sends out blinding and dazing pulses of its own which disrupts any attempts to commune with it.
At some point I killed the Subjugator and about 5 other risen, then proceeded with the Abomination which is tough as nails all by itself. Anyway I managed to kill it but after I did THE SUBJUGATOR HAD RESPAWNED ALREADY.
I’ve got the whole thing down to one final skillpoint now (pretty much everything on the map was challenging but not in a fun way and the vistas are a nightmare as well) but for the life of me I have no idea how to get it.
One thing is for sure, I am never setting foot here again once I do complete it and finish the storyline there. The sadists who designed this map have gotten enough fun out of me.

There are a few maps that people hate mostly because of the enemies and respawns. This is one of those maps. Havent been back to it since I got 100%. Not planning on it either lol.

I understand your feelings and had the 100% same nice experience a few days ago but i gave up since i got to the point when if I die again i will crash my keyboard. However I spent a few hours …
The only reason to quote you is to let you know you are not alone with your feelings and to tell you it was one of the most enjoyable post I read lately. I did laugh while read it even with my memories how much also got frustrated on that stupid map…
If you write a book i would defineately buy it :-)

If Orr is supposed to be a gloomy, sad, lifeless, diseased, unholy festering cesspool of wasteland of damnation forever bathed in despair then they have achieved it in spades. GOOD JOB
Red circles heal you. Just relax.
The Orr area has pissed me off like no game before. It’s kitten, plain and simple. I’ve been trying to access a skill point for over an hour now. I keep getting killed by endless piles of risen. You can’t take it step by step, you can’t rush, you can’t ninja. It’s impossible.
That’s just my problem though. We can start talking about how NO ONE wants to play there. I haven’t seen ONE player yet and I’ve been clearing 40% of malchors. It’s tedious, boring and anti-fun.

The reason you haven’t seen one player is because they nerfed the dog kitten outta Orr to the point of no return. No one even goes there anymore, only people who dont know about it, still asking why it takes so long for Plinx to spawn.
Probably won’t help you Ace but you -can- ninja if you happen to be running a thief, then shadow refuge + thieves guild / infiltrator’s signet + other moves that make you invis (cloak and dagger, hide) can let you clear the whole of Orr solo.
Drop shadow refuge at the skill points that just need communing, 7 seconds invis is plenty of time – I use it to get guarded treasure chests too. In the water you are almost undefeatable against 1 or 2 enemies at a time if you use spear block and spear #5 (forget the name) properly. Can also pop thieves guild before jumping in the water for some support. Just avoid megalodons. I tried to block that and became a chew toy. :P
In short if you ain’t a thief, maybe bring a thief buddy with you (best chance to recruit one at LA atm I think, you should pay for their TP from Straits to wherever though) – especially for problematic communing places. That shadow refuge can hide anyone for enough time. Just get them to drop thieves guild as bait and rush the skill point and hide, commune. After that just bolt to safety. :P
Ace, is the skillpoint you are talking about inside temple of lyssa? That’s the only one I can think of that you can’t rush, nor do step by step and you get swarmed by piles and piles of risen. That one you can ninja though. Did it with my engi a few days ago. You can commune that point from below the central elevated platform, and there’s only one veteran mesmer nearby patrolling it regularly which you can avoid if timed right. There’s a path to the lower areas where the catapults are right in front of the skillpoint that you can jump down to which will thankfully cancel all aggro from any risen chasing you so you can try again if you fail. There’s also a structure in the lower area where you can be safe from catapults so you can waypoint out after you’re done.
They need to either add a lot more spawns, from different locations for monsters, or nerf the friendly AOE, just for those events (I bet that goes over like a lead balloon ). Many times I do not get a single drop with my ranger because the AOE players have the mobs down too quickly, often before I can hit more than a couple of times with my Ranger.
Another solution might be to have the chance getting a drop from someone that does just one hit and someone that hits for much more damage equal.
Enemies spawning at 6 different points at the same time would reduce the AOE per group since players would not have to gang up on one spawn point.
Another good solution is to have more big events happening like that all at the same time, giving people a choice.
Of course right as I made this thread they did the lazy thing and just nerfed Plinx into oblivion while also introducing fractals, which obsoletes orr completely.
GG anet. Orr is now basically a waste of a huge amount of time and resources that went into developing it. When all you really had to do is find a way to incentivize people to use more of the zone than they were.
Nerfing Plinx is one of the best things they’ve done, IMHO. The zerg in that event was so ridiculous hardly anyone could tag enough to get drops. It was fun for karma farming, but good lord that got boring really fast.
I don’t find Cursed Shore that overwhelming, tbh. Hard, yes, but not over-the-top. There are usually enough people around to get through the major events.
My only real major complaint is Grenth, there’s no WP closer than Anchorage, so if you die mid-event you have to pretty much fight your way solo all the way back to the temple. As a thief using a ton of stealth skill, I still rarely make it back
I mostly agree with OP and everyone here. Orr is just SAD! When i leveled my first char i didn’t notice how bad it actually is but now that i’m taking an alt trough there i find myself having no fun at all! First…most of the place is empty. I’ve just completed the 70-75 map and i saw 3 people there. Yes, 3 people in a “High” population server (and i spent 2 hours there). 70% of the WP were contested and the events had no one doing them. Getting from point A to B was painfull considering the density of mobs and the ammount of Chills, Immob & Pulls they have. The other problem with Orr is that 90% of the people you see there are in the same place, doing the same thing over and over. Are they to blame? No!!! They’re doing the only rewarding & non-frustrating activity you can find there. And then they get hit with DR, nerfs in drops & spawn times…

To be honest, it’s only the Malchor’s Leap map I’ve had this problem with. On Straits and Cursed Shore I think I’ve died maybe two or three times on each map while exploring them which is far from unreasonable. On Cursed Shore you sometimes have to wait for the Cathedral events to finish but as it’s the level 80 map, that’s by no means unfair.
Malchor’s Leap was the only map which I just found plain disgusting. Must have died about 20-30 times on there which is about 10 times the usual amount for a high level map through very little fault of my own. Thankfully I’ve completed it now (somehow managed to sneak in the last skill point which was actually the Statue of Lyssa one just above the Cathedral, not the one inside it…managed to get to a point where the Veterans somehow broke aggro and very luckily didn’t get hit by the statue pulses before the regular Risen respawned).
Story there is also finished so not going back there EVER AGAIN.
The CC thrown out by mobs in Orr is a little absurd, yeah. I take special pleasure in delivering a grand “screw you” to the mobs every time I pop stability. Sometimes now I’ll kill them out of spite, but 90% of the time I just breeze past while flipping the bird to their rotten kitten
1. Orr is not meant to be soloed
2. If you are alone, join a guild. I posted LFG and found one on the forums the next day. “Supply and Demand.” Great bunch of guys and gals. 100+ members. All active.
3. Having said that, you go to Orr WITH A GROUP to farm mobs, events, get your obi shards, lodestones, etc.
4. There is no such thing as a karma grind. The Plinx nerf means nothing. 70 jugs of karma from dailies equals 2 months plus change. Drink your karma with a boost, the 5% and 15% guild banners. Boom. 535,500 karma. Youll have 5 shards left over. who’s Plinx again?
I think that about covers it.
There is no reason to go there. Exotic karma gear that has the same stat level as what I am wearing? Actually was going to mess around there last night but then thought not only is it a pain to learn what de’s do what it seems that many of them dont even work. Yep last time I escorted some repair npc’s to a contested town and about ten other players showed up and the event just went on and on and on with the town staying contested till after an half an hour I got bored and wandered off.
Fix your stuff Anet.
Well, I gotta join in on this.
My character is stuck in Cursed Shore. I can’t move, can’t use skills and dc after a few mins.
I can’t go to any WPs,, can’t walk out, can’t do jack.
I hated Malchor’s Leap. I hated straights. But now I can’t even hate cursed shores cause I can’t play!
