I really think Arena Net should implement a Platinum Medal for Dynamic Events which is one step up from the Gold Medal. This medal should only be given to the person/people who did the most amount of work in the event and it should be just a bit more experience and karma than the gold.

Now I realize that Arena Net has already been suggested this idea and turned it down because of wanting PvE to be completely cooperative/non competitive but let’s reopen the subject and look at it again.

1. It doesn’t cause competition between players to do better than the others, it causes players to do the best/most that they possibly can to contribute to the event and if they do the best/better than most others because they worked harder towards completing the event, they get a slightly (but significantly) better reward.
2. Only the person receiving the medal would know that they got that medal and contributed HIGHLY to that event so it wouldn’t cause resentment from other players or negative competitiveness.

Also from a completely noncompetitive few, sometimes there’s events that happen where you’re the only one around to do them and if you do a WHOLE event all by yourself, just getting a gold medal for it seems too insignificant of a reward and just doesn’t live up to the amount of time and effort you put into completing that event all by yourself.

I really feel like even though they want GW2 to be a completely noncompetitive game, there must be a little competitiveness here and there because that causes incentive to do well and having an incentive towards something creates interest and value towards that something. Having small little things like a Platinum medal to be earned would create overall more interest and immersion in the game.

I agree with the OP. Some kind of specific rewards need to be rewarded for doing over 90% of the DE. Especially for solo escorting and solo collecting type, it can take extremely long time and huge effort to finish them alone and what you get is nothing special, what you can get by jumping into an event for 30 seconds, then leave it to people staying behind, not bothering the outcome and you still get the same gold.

I have been experiencing many events that I had to solo all the way because there were hardly anyone around, or people just abandoning them. Every time I had to ask myself “Is it worth to do this alone?”. I don’ think so but I just can’t ignore those NPCs requiring my help, just like what you do in real life. Imagine yourself ignoring these in a virtual world and how it will affect your life style in real world. It is bad for kids too if they get used to this sort of “I don’t need to help because it is pointless.”.

It will be nice if we receive extra reward (hopefully not gold or karma), something special, such as Platinum Medal that can be used as currency for specific goods (mini-pets etc) or count towards achievement, to encourage people to finish pending DEs even alone. And if people abandoning events maybe the cause of stuck events, this would be much more needed.

To be honest there needs to be some mechanism in place for those that want to contribute when they help downed players, heal, and buff. Right now the only way (as I understand it) to get any medal is by damaging and that’s it.

In war the worst thing you could do is die for your country, make the other jerk die for his!

I agree on the platinum medal stuff. Once in awhile i complete an event all on my own if no one is around…I feel as though i deserve a bit more than if i was there with way more people/less effort.

I disagree. What needs to be done is a re-design of the events itself.

Right now it’s just a zerg AoE fest, the highest AoErs (arguably elementalists) will always do the most damage and most participation on anything. Hell I can’t even tag more than 1 mob per wave on any event with my Shortbow + Axe-Warhorn Ranger without having to respec enterily.

I could agree to some extent that the Medal system could use tweaking, but no add of “Platinum”. Most people enter an event do some significant amount of damage and leave to “tag” the next event. This way they get GOLD medal in all events. What should be done is, Gold medal is for the ones that helped thru at least 80-90% of the event (be rezzing, healing, damaging, supporting). If you leave midway thru it a Silver Medal with roughtly 50% reward, and even less with a Bronze.

I don’t think we need a medal for “MVP”, we need less zerg fest, less AoE “stealing loot”, better scaling of events and possibly more meaningful events (harder as well) that rewards player better (more karma) for their time invested on it. People simply ignore long events or the ones with few enemies, because it’s not karma-time worth it.

it will cause competition between players.everyone will be too busy dps’ing that they wont bother to res others.then there will be problems with bosses spawning adds and no one is killing them.then there will be people kiting the adds which in turn will end up killing other players

and you really think no one is going to brag that they got the platinum medal?people keep linking lfg when they get rares from bosses,what makes you think they wont do the same if they got the top prize
