Yes, the mobs’ AI is boring, and so is the Lyssa effect.
However, I find it fun outsmarting the guy who programmed the pathing for the Risen King.
Observe the dumb pathing of that eyeball, and you can easily solo it standing still with cleave/GTAoE attacks while taking no damage at all during the entire fight, even under the effect of Lyssa.
Of course the god statues are a late addition. Why? Because the temples are hard and offer little reward, so there’s not enough people on the map interested in doing them (particularly on these maps where you can’t scratch your bum without 60,000 mobs jumping you). So ANET threw their collective dummies in the corner and put the god statues in – now you have to do the temples if you want to get 100% on the map, or get the skill points (you know, that one you can’t get while getting beaten by the 3-sec effect?). And frankly, it’s just tedious.
The right answer is not the god statues – that’s an approach for people who can’t design anything better – the right answer is to make the temples more interesting.

I assume the complete lack of response to this means ANET dont bother to read these messages. Or, like a child, can’t find any sort of valid response. Ah well…
