on SoR something seems to be going on with the defending seal of lyss event required for killing the lyssa priestess. From a small group of 5 people to a decent sized zerg, we just couldn’t get it done. I noticed the following things

1. vet abos. There is a group of them, at least 4 at a time. They got tons of health and respawn far too quickly. Since there are random npcs running around they easily build up their stacks and start one shotting everyone, including the npcs we need to project.

2. vet acolytes. Their ability to summon armies of adds is most impressive. Half of those adds are plague carries who can get players to very low health when they are neck deep fighting other adds. Not to mention most players are probably out of endurance from dodging the abos with 25 stacks of frenzy.

3. vet nobles. Enough said tbh. shadow step with the nuking symbol. These ones also seem to pull players into the symbol, it just becomes really difficult to deal with.

Other seals seemed to have been dealt with relatively easily. This one just feels overtuned.

This event’s scaling seems to have both Jekyll and Hyde components. Since the scaling changes, I’ve seen it as you describe and also in a more doable state. With PvE culling, the “summons” mobs (vet/champion spider and vet acolyte) were a really bad idea. The mechanic can only be countered by burning down the source quickly. If you don’t, the CD on the summon is short enough that getting overwhelmed with numbers is inevitable.

It feels like ANet doesn’t want people to do the temple events unless they get “enough” players to overwhelm the scaling. I just wish they’d tell us what “enough” is so we could stop wasting our time.

Last night actually I 2-manned each of the Lyssa pre events with this thief, we got to Lyssa and then maybe about 6 other people came along. The event is very easy when you don’t have many people, it’s just when a massive zerg comes along when it actually becomes more difficult since they’re not all focusing on Lyssa, probably 80% of them are using bad gear and the priestess’s HP scales up too, so you have some players attacking the mobs, some attacking the priestess and this giant HP pool which is taking ages to go down. It doesn’t help some of the mobs are champs when the event scales enough.

It seems as if the scaling code that deals with scaling mobs from normal, via vet, to champ do not take into consideration the number and types of mobs in action already.

Likely it is simply done by code alone on top of whatever other scaling system is used to increase the number of mobs in a event.

Meaning that you have a potential for all kinds of interaction that inevitably end in a clusterkitten…

The other approach is to never trigger the scaling at all. Either way the scaling algorithm is still broken, the best way to tackle them is to play unnaturally.

It’s always a joy to watch two King Kongs hulk smash everyone at Temple of Lyssa.
