Seal of Lyss event
This event’s scaling seems to have both Jekyll and Hyde components. Since the scaling changes, I’ve seen it as you describe and also in a more doable state. With PvE culling, the “summons” mobs (vet/champion spider and vet acolyte) were a really bad idea. The mechanic can only be countered by burning down the source quickly. If you don’t, the CD on the summon is short enough that getting overwhelmed with numbers is inevitable.
It feels like ANet doesn’t want people to do the temple events unless they get “enough” players to overwhelm the scaling. I just wish they’d tell us what “enough” is so we could stop wasting our time.
Last night actually I 2-manned each of the Lyssa pre events with this thief, we got to Lyssa and then maybe about 6 other people came along. The event is very easy when you don’t have many people, it’s just when a massive zerg comes along when it actually becomes more difficult since they’re not all focusing on Lyssa, probably 80% of them are using bad gear and the priestess’s HP scales up too, so you have some players attacking the mobs, some attacking the priestess and this giant HP pool which is taking ages to go down. It doesn’t help some of the mobs are champs when the event scales enough.

It seems as if the scaling code that deals with scaling mobs from normal, via vet, to champ do not take into consideration the number and types of mobs in action already.
Likely it is simply done by code alone on top of whatever other scaling system is used to increase the number of mobs in a event.
Meaning that you have a potential for all kinds of interaction that inevitably end in a clusterkitten…

The other approach is to never trigger the scaling at all. Either way the scaling algorithm is still broken, the best way to tackle them is to play unnaturally.
It’s always a joy to watch two King Kongs hulk smash everyone at Temple of Lyssa.
