So I spend about 30 minutes soloing the Champion Giant event at Naegling in Diessa Plateu. 30 minutes of furious concentration, dodging all of its attacks so I don’t get splattered. But can you even begin to grasp the unimaginable rewards I would get from soloing the giant? Yes, I received a mighty Carrion Reinforced Scale Coat, a lvl 77 BLUE, and a little over 2 silver in chump change. That didn’t even pay for my fast travel. On top of that the stupid thing doesn’t even count towards my daily veteran slayer. Like what, champion mob not good enough for you? I defeated a huge giant that wrecked the entire town of trained soldiers, by myself, and all I get is a insulting 2s and a blue.

Why do rewards from dynamic events SUCK so bad? Do you not want us to do any dynamic events at all after we hit lvl 80? There is zero reason to want to spend time doing dynamic events that give no reward worth earning, when we could go do dungeons and still get no loot, but at least get paid doing it.

Am I the only one that goes and kills the claw of jormag and only gets a few blues and a green? Is this just me being my usual unlucky self, or does anyone else feel that the world events are needlessly punishing and unrewarding in the extreme?

Such as:
the Temple of Grenth event in the Cursed Shore where you get tossed in the air and drop to your death. If you join in and are not forewarned of this aggravating mechanic you probably don’t realize that 50% falling reduction trait you may or may not have specc’d is pretty important here. The walk back is pretty lengthy too.

the Temple of Balthazar with its chain crowd control and auto-down ability. I spent the entire timer of that event either running around CC’d or downed. That event lasts what, 20 minutes? That’s a lot of time spent CC’d and not a lot of time having fun killing the event boss.

The Shatterer event in Blazeridge Steppes that never seems to have any rares in its chest. Ever.

Many, MANY events in Orr are much more challenging than any of their rewards merit. Killing a champion mob in Orr is no easy task, and the fact that you usually only get a couple silvers at best from it is simply ludicrous. That might not even pay for your repair bill on your armor, and your fast travel fee back to the nearest waypoint. Which of course, being in Orr, is probably contested. Meaning that you have to walk double or perhaps even triple the distance to get back to the event.

Now I like a challenge in my video games as much as anyone else. But I like to feel that when I best a difficult foe that it was worth doing, and all of these events, and more, feel totally worthless because they have no reward worth doing them for.

Why can’t we at least get a full gold piece and a rare every time we kill a claw of jormag. It’s not like the event is constantly up. It has a fairly significant waiting period between each repeat.

Why couldn’t the champion giant give me a good 50-75 silver for killing it?

Seriously, in which corner of Tyria is my loot hiding in?

i think devs at anet don’t understand what good loot means. With last patch they said events will be worth doing… worth doing my *. Worsd is as deserted as it was before update and you 2s per event, TWO SILVER haha whoever came out with this idea should be fired. The *minimal reward. Worsd is as deserted as it was before update and you 2s per event, TWO SILVER haha whoever came out with this idea should be fired. The minimal reward from events should be 10s and scales up to 25s if the event is long. Their system suck and looks like they don’t know it.

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.

I always wondered why they didnt just create “champion marks” that you get once you defeat a champion. Those marks can then be traded for skins that you can only get thru those champion marks.

I would definetly go hunt down some champs if the skins are cool looking.

I waited 3 years for this game, figured it was going to be my new “long term” mmo. Sadly that wasn’t the case. The problem you described is the number one reason I have now left the game. That, and the fact that there isn’t really much whatsoever to spend your money on anyway, even if you were to get good loot.

Such a shame.

Why champions dont drop unique items like GW1 bosses.

Agree completely. It’s not 100% their fault, they are trying to change the way we enjoy the game, by get this, enjoying playing, not the reward. But the fact is that is the MMO players mindset, we need rewarded for everything we do, and it’s the gaming industry’s fault that we think that way. It’s too late to change that. Just give us butt loads of good stuff. I know they don’t want to see gold massively inflated, but the players would love that. I want 1000 gold just chillin in my pocket at all times. I dont care if a glob is 100gold to get because of that, i just like big numbers. They do have to be careful though because gold = gems = cashmoney.

See, there are things I need to spend gold on. In fact its going to cost me a lot of gold to purchase the 200 charged lodestones I’m going to need to craft my two gifts of light for my Foefire’s Essence and Foefire’s Power greatsword and hammer. But because the amount of money you receive from doing anything in the game is so pathetically small suddenly the 3 gold 50 silver a piece lodestones are ridiculously out of my reach. Which is another similar and possibly related problem, as a some of the lodestones are far to difficult to gather in the numbers required for crafting the non legendary weapons such as the ones I mentioned, but I digress. The only real way to earn gold is to spend all your time constantly running and re-running a couple of the shorter and easier dungeon paths like Citadel of Flame path 1. That isn’t fun at all. I want to be able to get my cool gear, and be able to get it however I want. Having decent rewards for world events won’t break the system. If there is too much gold, and people want to buy gems with gold, the price of gems will simply go up to accompany the extra gold in the game. I would prefer to run around doing dynamic events to earn money. They are more fun than endless dungeon runs. But they don’t give any money. Or unique loot. Or much loot of any kind for that matter.

Also @Masterpyro.4310 gold = gems =/= cashmoney. You can’t trade gems for cash, although you can trade cash for gems, it is a one way flow. Even if gold is really really easy to earn, the way they structured the gold to gems purchase system the price on gems would simply go up and stabilize at a reasonable rate for purchasing gems at. And even then there are always people who would rather just drop 10$ on the gems than spend gold for them, especially if they want that item right now.

Also, talking specifically about gold really isn’t the point of this section of the forums. This is about making dynamic events more rewarding and giving players encouragement to spend their time in the world instead of lined up outside Citadel of Flame.

Someone mentioned bringing back the “green” items from Guild Wars 1. Named mobs used to drop weapons with unique or interesting appearances. Why not bring that back? That is an incentive many players would appreciate, and it wouldn’t really mess with the gold flow of the game.

I have to agree with this, especially in the case of that particular giant. Normally I’m happy to just enjoy the fun of an encounter, whether or not I get any decent out of it.

But god that giant is so boring to fight, that getting absolutely nothing (yes that’s happened to me, not even body loot) out of the encounter is just insult to injury.

Perhaps I’m just unlucky (well, I know I’m unlucky but still). I do agree with the comments that Champion gear would be an excellent thing to add. Heck, if it’s just a skin that you apply to whatever you’re using it’d be awesome.

Kill X Champion Y and you get enough tokens for it’s unique equipment. Make it by species/archetype with some special cases for the really unique boss types. That’d be lovely.

Honestly I feel like they nerfed chests with the last patch. Haven’t gotten anything decent from killing any of the dragons in over a week, mostly all blue chests. At least put a minimum of one masterwork item in each dragon chest or something?

I spent the last two weekends doing dragon events with multiple characters and trying to entertain myself with some other events (and dailies) during the down time. I’ve had only two rares drop for all of the combined events and one of those was from Maw. I cannot grasp why the chest drops are SO bad, especially dragon chests. Please give us more reason to do these events. They are fun. They are beautifully rendered but they don’t even pay for porting there. (Shatterer needs to be buffed and given more phases, but that’s another topic.)

There is no excuse for a 6 minute EASY event chain with a 1 minute boss fight to out do a ten+ minute dragon fight. Or in the case of the OP, a 30 minute Champion Giant… that said, we can look forward to Maw rewards getting nerfed now. (Please buff the fight instead. At level this was really fun.)

As for chest drops leading to loss of income for Anet, i.e. Gold – Gem ratio, an increase in the availability of exotics will actually decrease their value and decrease the need for people to farm gold. It would also make ectos more wildly available for those 250 recipes that seem so out of reach.

I honestly don’t know why Arenanet feels the need to make chests drop gear.

Their combined currencies of xp/karma/gold work wonderfully at encouraging people to do DEs, why not adopt the same policy towards everything else?

Make champs drop more money, a drop of liquid karma, and give kittentons of xp.
Make dragons from a jug of liquid karma, 1 gold, and give half a level/a level of xp.

Maybe drop 1 gear piece, which is at least green, usually rare, and maybe 10% of the time an exotic.

There, I’ve solved all of the problems described in the thread.

Some people like to ‘earn’ their gear through drops rather than buy on the TC and karma is worthless after 80. The Temple karma gear has a certain ascetic that might cover some people but I’d venture to say they are a small minority since I rarely see anyone wearing it. And buying that gear simply to transmute it with a real-money transmute stone is a terrible option for many as well.

These events are the equivalent to dungeons as end game content and should have a similar (equivalent but not necessarily equal) potential for good loot drops. The drops are not just limited to Champions and Dragons though. It is all world chest/boss drops that have a perception problem, if not a real problem, in dropping reasonable loot. I’m not saying we should get ascended gear but dragon/giant/champion tokens plus the better than average chance at rares and exotics should not be too much to ask for. Fighting Grenth, Tequatal or Claw should yield better than a bag full of vendor trash.

MasterGeese, your solution simply turns dungeon farmers into mules for loot, as they are the ones currently receiving the drops, and increases inflationary pressure on the game economy. We’re asking for an increase in goods, not an increase in gold. Gear drops are just as likely to be worn or salvaged as sold whereas gold only serves one purpose, hence inflation.

Tokens would have even less economic impact and give people incentive to farm the events that suited the gear they desired, much like dungeon tokens do now.

Agreed, most world events have terrible loot, and I would love to be able to loot some decent salvageable rares that I could get some ectos out of. Is it so unreasonable to expect to get something shiny out of a loot chest as big – or bigger, if you are an asura – as your character?

I do disagree with not wanting an increase of gold. Even if they add improved drop rates on items, the likelihood that you will actually get the piece of loot you are looking for is very small. People need gold to be able to afford the ridiculous prices of goods on the trading post. The Greatsword I’ve been looking at for the last couple months, the Foefire’s Essence, sells for about 600 gold on the trading post on Sorrow’s Furnace. I don’t think I could afford that even if I tallied up all the gold I have earned since I started playing the game. As a matter of fact, I doubt I would have much more than 100 lifetime gold earned. That’s even with selling lots of crafting materials on the trading post, and spending a fair amount of time running dungeons for cash.

People need more money, and they need more things to spend it on. And what should be the primary means to acquire both for all levels of players, doesn’t provide much of either. Dynamic events just don’t give enough of a reward to a max level player. The amount of exp the events give is plenty. But a level 80 doesn’t need the exp anyway.

If you spent thirty minutes solo’ing something (not saying you didn’t) I think the accomplishment, for me anyway, would suffice as enough loot but to each his own. I find in this game that I’ll get a really nice exotic drop that nets me between 2-5g one week then I’ll go two weeks without even seeing a rare. Maybe just my luck? Haha
